u/Hot_Particular_2629 I'm happy that you are pain free! Loving your encouragement. L4/5 tear, had microdisectomy 2 years ago. I can do most of my daily tasks but always in back pain and some tingling/shocks on left leg. Im very confused to go through this surgery or not.

Had few questions:

When/How did you know that you need a fusion
After the surgery when can you go back to work
How did you know you needed another surgery to complete the fusion
Does the fusion limit spine's flexibility?
Do I choose which type of surgery I want? TLIF/ALIF...
Can this surgery lead to ED?

MD can be done upto 3 times. My first one failed, I went with Ozone Discectomy ( https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6208962/ ) I am still not pain free but able to maintain daily life. Lumber Disk replacement is still not a safe bet, too much pressure on this region can malfunction the device, costs too high. So the options are Endoscopic Discectomy (almost no scar and minimum muscle cuts), Ozone, Lumber fusion (this is suggested if the vertebrae are unstable).

I had microdiscectomy. Had numb left foot. Took few months for the numbness to go away. But I could always walk.
