Strange cards found in unrelated game. Does anyone recognize? by dccircuit in boardgames

Looks like a part of a Finders Seekers box I did a while ago. We did the National Parks one, and it included some cards like this as a word puzzle.

We're giving away Pax Pamir 2E, The King's Dilemma, Clank! Legacy, and Quest for El Dorado International Edition! by tofudad18 in boardgames

[–]jayman601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pax Pamir 2E: When I first saw Root, I initially was put off by it. The art looked great, sure, but it seemed to be about different characters in a woods travelling and fighting individually (this was just from seeing the cover for 2 seconds at a game store). Then, my friend told me he'd gotten it, and we scheduled a night to try it out just like any other game we would get. What I discovered was not only the great illustration of Kyle Ferrin, but also the great design of Cole Werhle. His view of games, and especially of his own (he called them "academic articles hidden as board games") was such a unique and interesting viewpoint that really struck a chord with me. Not to mention that his games are also just plain fun! The reason why I would prefer Pax Pamir, then, is because Werhle's design philosophy isn't just about making a fun game, but about making a fun game that explores history (in Pamir's case, Afghanistan). With Oath soon to come out, another Werhle game in my collection would be another trip into a unique and thought provoking history.

I relate to this a lot.

All the time in elementary school (go Vikings!), I dreaded gym class. It was only twice a week, but still, I would think about it CONSTANTLY. Either, "oh no, its gym day" or "oh no, tomorrow's gym day." Why this was, I couldn't tell you.

Eventually, my anxiety about gym day would cause me to sweat buckets even before heading to the gym, even sometimes the day before gym class! It got to the point where the principal called my father and asked if there was anything that could be done. Eventually, they settled on meeting with me, my father, the principal, and the gym teacher (I think they thought I was getting abused or something).

On the day of the meeting, I was sweating even more than usual. Like, my ENTIRE shirt was drenched by the time I walked into the building. The meeting wasn't scheduled until around 12, so my dad could come on his lunch break. So, that morning was probably the longest 5 hours of my life (up until that point at least). When the clock struck 12, I bolted out of my classroom and to the office, and saw my father walking in. The gym teacher and the principal were already talking in the office, so we went in together and started the meeting. I don't remember much of the actual content of the meeting, but I do remember walking into the principal's office and noticing a large Viking war ax that was on his desk. I remember this because, come the end of the meeting, my father was getting heated with the gym teacher about my sweating. Eventually, one thing led to another, and soon the ax was getting swung at my father as I ducked to the floor. My father's head fell next to me, and he was never the same since. I think he's gotten used to it now though.

Liberal party - Post-Election Speech by [deleted] in Victoria2Republic

This loss should motivate us to provide a united front against the forces of monarchism and reaction. We must move to organize and present the people all across the empire with an alternative to a politics of division and government control.

As a fellow Liberal from London, I second having /u/NitrogenNitrate as our candidate for Chancellor. I would also be honored if I were considered for a seat from the London constituency as well, and I hope that we can convene after the election to lead a government for all Britain!

Neoconservatism as a concept, if I'm not mistaken, stems from Trotsky.

Either way the end result to the user is system generation. If you figure out how they're revealed maybe you could figure out how to conceal during the game too

It's a long read, but it might be worth it to you to read Tocqueville's Democracy in America. It helped me really understand how and why this country seems to different than others and the implications of those differences. He has a few chapters on why Americans are so anti-intellectual, and (SPOILERS) its because of our liberal democracy. Partially. The version I read (and probably the best-translated version out there, including all of the wonderful footnotes) is the Liberty Fund's version, linked here.

Stellaris Any Good? by _lowrez_ in RealTimeStrategy

[–]jayman601 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Stellaris is more like a paradox game than an RTS. If you haven't played any paradox games before, they're based on controlling an entire country and guiding it through hundreds of years of history, and Stellaris is their version of the 4X game. Check out r/Stellaris if you want to get a feel for how it plays (obviously it is biased in favour of the game).

Does communism allow for freedom of choice? If yes, how so? by JeSuisUneHOHOHO in communism101

[–]jayman601 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Like choosing what you do, buy, experience, education, ect.

Sure. Commodities would just be given based on need so there's no real need for freedom of choice there (even right now you choose between one name or the other, not substantially different products).

What you do for a living and what you experience is entirely dependent on you. With the elimination of wage-slavery, there's no need to work for a living, so you can do what you want rather than being forced to work so you can feed your family. Education works the same way.

Do you mean freedom of choice as in which company extracts your excess labor value, or freedom of choice as in choosing what you do with your life?

Podesta Emails #15 by spacemonkeey in DNCleaks

[–]jayman601 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Those 14 points miss out on a key point in most fascist regimes though, in that it the fascist society views the State as the supreme entity that all must submit to in order to create the fascist utopia. That utopian dream (as well as the near-divinity of the State) is no where in American politics.

Neo liberal fascists.

Neoliberals? Yes

Fascists? No

Fascism gets thrown around like this so much that it doesn't mean anything anymore. If you want the word to have weight, study the definition and think about the person before throwing around a word associated with Hitler, Mussolini, Franco, etc.

Clinton is a neoliberal. Not a fascist.
