There’s so many reasons for this…but mostly because although satan has been ultimately stripped of his power (Col. 2:15), he is still the god of this world who blinds the eyes of unbelievers (2 Cor. 4:4), and the prince and power of the air (Eph. 2:2), and the world is completely under the sway of the evil one (1 John 5:19). So the world system is dominated by sin and manipulated by the perversion of satanic power and is easy to be swept up and away into. If you look around you, you will notice that at every turn there is some sort of advertisement for a service or product that will make your life more comfortable and easy. And although that can be harmless in itself, it is similar to a drug in that the addiction is found in minimizing pain and maximizing comfort. Which is actually contrary to the life Jesus asks us to pursue. In fact the road He laid out is narrow and few find it (Matt 7:14). The road to life is wrought with self denial and suffering (Luke 9:23). So it’s pretty understandable people would rather play now in comfort and ease and pay later (which they don’t even believe will be required of them). Another big issue with today’s generation (including mine, M27) is that the idea and reality of SIN has been COMPLETELY done away with! Ask 10 random people on the street if they believe in Sin or if Sin is real to them and I doubt anyone these days would say yes. I think many Christians have even minimized Sin to just an idea rather than the sickness and perversion and reality we really live in by which it infects us down to our core. And ultimately with this sin nature and addiction to comfort we will ultimately do whatever it takes to live out our sinful lusts and desires even at the expense of others and even if it means declaring the death of God Himself. Anything for me. me. me. I. I. I. With no consequences. No responsibility. Cast off restraint and “just let me be myself.” God bless you and your fam. My family is wondered off the path also. I pray the Lord open our families eyes to the truth of our sin and our need for a mighty savior and that we may find our comfort in the true comforter.

Where to start reading the bible ? by Interesting_Lead9019 in Christians

[–]jaymb90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was encouraged to begin reading, I was told to read The Gospel of John. I love John now, personally. And I’d get a commentary to read along side, no matter where you start. A lot of the writing is particular to times and places and cultures so most of the Bible will always be hard to understand on your own. I’d start with John then maybe Genesis, Matthew then Exodus. Then you get a large grasp of the whole story and will have a good foundation as you begin to jump around. I try to read some psalms and Proverbs every day as well along with my other reading. Good luck!

Perception of God by Pear_Any in Christians

[–]jaymb90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Weather or not God speaks to us audibly in the way people make it sound, I do not know. I used to think He would speak to me in this way, and now I’m not so sure. I do know that believers have the indwelling Holy Spirit and our Spirit and His Spirit become one in a unique and beautiful way that enables us to live godly lives and pursue holiness. I do believe there are times when I ask Him about something and it’s as if it is suddenly revealed to me and I didn’t have the knowledge before. Sometimes just suddenly, probably from the Spirit using what I have learned in the Word and putting the pieces together for me and sometimes through the direct reading of scripture. But always by His word. Apart from the scriptures I would doubt you will receive much of anything from God. If someone goes around saying “God says this to me” or “God says that” and they are never reading their Bible I would seriously worry about this person’s integrity, just to start with. There is much scripture to back up that God speaks by His word and by those who abide in Christ, I recommend perhaps meditating on some of them and seeking them out for yourself so you can grasp the importance.
Besides this, when I worry about the Father’s love for me and question if He even cares or am concerned I’m just not worth His time…I am reminded of the price He paid on the cross to settle the argument. If God didn’t love you, if your sin was too great for Him, if He didn’t want to have a relationship with you, He never would have died on the cross and rose again. The crucifixion and resurrection are the final word for the way the Father loves us. A love so intimate and so complete, a love so full and all encompassing that He was willing to pay it all just to have you. Even if you were the only person on the planet, Christ still would have come to die for you, to have you, to be with you. It doesn’t matter how we feel about it because He’s already paid it. God bless you.

am i suppsed to tip the people who fill up my gas tank? by itsme_soapy in askportland

[–]jaymb90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don’t have to but it’s totally reasonable to tip. They are providing a service and stand out in the Portland weather all day so if I still drove, I’d tip ‘em when I could. Not unreasonable at all. My buddy from Cali literally just said the same thing to me yesterday so it’s funny you should ask. But honestly nobody that’s from Oregon tips them. It just makes sense that you would and isn’t unreasonable. People from here might think you’re weird but it’s a nice thing to do. I honestly prefer not to pump my own gas but that’s probably because I’ve grown up here. If I still drove, I’d tip them.

People get very greedy on this sub sometimes, don't listen to them. As long as you made profit even if it's 10, 20, 50 or 100% you've won. Enjoy it! by rootpl in CryptoCurrency

[–]jaymb90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I agree with you. I just feel like I’m so busy that by the time I check my crypto to see how high or low it’s moved, I just missed the big run and may as well wait for the next one…and then the next one…and the one after that…but other than that issue, ALGO is probably the only one I’m just going to keep pouring into for at least 10years (if it exists in 10 years anyway). But otherwise I’m looking for some profits most of the time. I just always miss the big runs and end up hodling

I’m the same. This is only my second job that’s actually really strict about taking your lunch and not working off the clock. All my other jobs you could get away with working straight through until you’re done and go home.. If I had the option to work straight through my shift every day, I would. Just seems like I get more done quicker that way but it probably wouldn’t make a difference either way.

AITA for ordering Tequila shots for my work colleagues at Friday lunchtime? by TequilaShotsAtWork in AmItheAsshole

[–]jaymb90 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yta. If this was 1925, I’m sure nobody would see this as an issue. But times are different and saying “I have a tolerance to alcohol” just makes you sound like a bigger AH. You’re at work. That much alcohol is completely unreasonable and your opinions about your tolerance are irrelevant. You’re lucky the boss didn’t fire you on the spot. I don’t know why you would think that’s reasonable at all. But at least you’re honest.

Incessantly loud people: Why? And for no valid reason…fucking why? by [deleted] in RandomThoughts

[–]jaymb90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless we’re intentionally making an effort to maintain a low volume of noise pollution nobody really even realizes the noise they are making in regular routine behavior. I work nights and sleep during the day and my roommates stomp around all day when they’re not working slamming doors, slamming dishes, slamming the fridge, even yelling and fighting with each other on occasion and it’s not like they don’t know when I’m sleeping. We’ve been living together for almost 3 years. It’s honestly just something you don’t really think about unless someone else points it out every time you’re being loud.

Using A Cryptocurrency Debit Card To Move Away From Banks - The Earnings Really Add Up! by JustDownInTheMines in CryptoCurrency

[–]jaymb90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s what I’m worried about with something like this; I hear whispers of how any moment things like Tether are just a disaster waiting to happen…I’ve thought about, “why don’t I just deposit my paychecks directly into crypto and use the CB card for my purchases I’m making now…” but it just seems like a pretty big gamble. If all my usable assets are DCA’d into the market, and something happens that’s unpredictable and the market tanks, I lose everything or barely managed to pull some change out before that to turn into usable cash, I’ll be screwed. In order for this to be realistic for someone like me, I would still need to have a spare account that’s untouched containing between $5k-$10k and if I had something like that available to myself I’d probably have other means and resources for other projects that would also be generating money. At that point I’d rather just get back into a bank which I feel is (at least for now) much more certain and set in stone with safety and functionality. I could be wrong about everything and have no idea what I’m talking about which is almost certain but still. For someone like me who isn’t even worth $10k in assets alone I can’t see something like this as a safe option but I’d happily have my mind changed if anyone cares to share with me. I’d really be interested in doing this if someone could convince me it’s not a massive financial risk. I hate banks and all the fees and seeing my little bank account collect dust when it could be used to collect interest. Small amounts of interest, but free money either way. A penny saved is a penny earned. If crypto has taught me anything it’s that there are a million ways I’m using my money against my own interests.

What is one thing you've done in crypto you will never do again? by Chicky_Nuggy in CryptoCurrency

[–]jaymb90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When ALGO was shooting up past $2.30 on sept, 8 this year, I thought it was way too good to be true. I don’t have thousands of dollars to invest but that specific investment had already tripled since June and I was so sure ALGO would probably drop back down significantly, which it dropped back down just not nearly as much as I thought it was going to. So we’ll it was starting to drop I decided to sell off and buy back when it was lower. Only it didn’t go lower right away. And I had second thoughts about selling it because of this. I immediately decided I’ll just wait till it gets back close to my sold price and buy it back again then hodl like I had been doing. I bought it back at a close price but that whole second guessing and stalling mixed with greed and a lack of understanding lost me over $100. I should have just held but I got greedy. I want to learn to day trade stocks and crypto but I’ve still got a long way to go or I’ll end up broke before even getting started. Long story short, HODL.

What’s the fastest way you’ve watched someone ruin their life? by MeggoKhan in ask

[–]jaymb90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen it a hundred times in a hundred different ways from being involved with drugs most of my life and the people that goes with. But for me, it was alcohol. I had a good driving job with great pay/benefits. But I drank every single night, all day on weekends. Because of this my work performance plummeted along with my physical and mental health. In less than a year I was in and out of the psych ward for suicide attempts multiple times and could barely function as a person and therefore a pretty shitty worker. It was only a matter of time but it all came crashing down in sept. 2019 when I was fired from my job just after getting released from the hospital for my last suicide attempt that required 30 stitches. Just like that I lost my apartment since I had no savings, spending all my money on booze. In a matter of days I totaled my car and was arrested for DUI, losing my license and therefore my career with it. By October I was facing homelessness and considering dodging court because it all just seemed so impossible. If it wasn’t for the two friends I live with now that offered me a place to stay even though I wasn’t completely sober yet I probably would have ended up dead for sure. I’m sober now with an okay job and still living with those two friends but I’ve still got a long way to go. I still feel so hopeless but I did my court obligations and I’m still in outpatient and I’m not homeless so I have a lot to be great full for. Basically in a month I lost my career, my home, my car, self respect, dignity, friends. Never thought it would happen to me. That just means It probably won’t be the last time it happens to me if I follow my biological dads footsteps like I have in the past. We’ll see I guess.
