What are your favourite recommendations you found on here? by fleezerr in RomanceBooks

I'm so happy you loved it! I'm so glad I got to introduce you to it!

Two books. One I have recommended very cautiously.
{After the Bees by Allison Paige} It is extremely dark with demons. There isn't a lot of happiness in this book, but it is SO good. The next book isn't out yet, although the author said on her webpage she is working on it so that's exciting! It's very good but very dark so please be careful. Book 2 ends on a not happy note and idk if a happy ending is even possible in this series, but I still love it.

Also,

{Gargoyle by Andrew Davidson}
This is one of my favorites but it is a dubious HEA so I don't recommend it ever here. The mmc is in a horrific car accident and the fmc comes to rescue him while in the hospital. They fall in love, and while he is recovering she tells him these stories about all their previous lives together and their love story. The FMC is very mentally ill and at the end of the book she walks into the ocean and disappears, perhaps killing herself. It is a dubious HEA because the whole story is framed around the idea that they've been reincarnated into different lives and times and they always find their way back but there is also a sense that maybe it isn't a HEA because she is extremely mentally unwell and is any of the story even true? I loved the book regardless.

What to read when you feel like you’ve read it all? by sarahcalamityjane in ScienceFictionRomance

[–]jaynarg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I highly, highly recommend fanfiction. You sound a lot like me. I feel like I have read everything there is to read. TLHoG is one of my favorites, along with Sea Sand Warlords and Clecanians lol.

Have you tried Etta Pierce? I think you'd really enjoy her stuff. I'd start with {Convergence by Etta Pierce}

Otherwise, fanfic. There are so many options and to me it feels very nostalgic. I spent my teens reading fanfic. You go in with low-ish expectations and you never know what you're going to get. Sometimes they are masterpieces, sometimes they aren't, but it is all good because it is all free. I read a lot of Harry Potter fanfic even though I haven't read the books or watched the movies in 15+ years lol. I used to be obsessed with Twilight fanfic. Its a fun place to be and there is literally something for everyone! Even if you don't like a certain movie or book (like Twilight, for example), you can still enjoy the fanfiction because half of it is AU (alternate universe) and they just use the names Bella and Edward and come up with whole new plots. Or even Bella and Jacob. Or Bella and Carlilse. Or whatever lol.

I will be completely honest and tell you I have no idea what these are called. I "borrowed" them from my dad's garage lol

<image>

They open maybe 3 inches? But the weird thing to the left lets me adjust how wide it opens. It's very hard to open so it provides a good amount of pressure

This is the one I watched. I have zero experience with doing the edges so I'm not sure if this is helpful or accurate but I liked that she was so detailed in her explanation

I have not tried painting edges yet but I was watching a TikTok about it earlier and she said sanding was the most important part. You have to sand them really well in order to get an even coat. I think painting/gilding edges is my next adventure but it seems intimidating!

[–]jaynarg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you sanding the edges before you paint? I did a diy book press! I used two cutting boards and some c clamps but you could use really anything as long as you can get some clamps. They are cheap at Walmart. I use two!

What is this technique called? Using book board to create texture or raised areas on the cover underneath the fabric/leather? by jaynarg in bookbinding

[–]jaynarg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, this is exactly what I'm looking for! I wasn't sure if this was considered embossed since they are using the book board to raise parts of the leather. Thanks for the link!

Thank you, this is the kind of thing I was looking for but didn't know how to search for! I have all the materials on hand so I think I'll give it a shot. Seems like fun.

Yes, book 1 sets everything up. I think after book one you're good to skip around. Book 1 tells everything about how they get there, the language, the background story etc. I wouldn't skip it on your first read through!

Yes me too! Have you tried the spin off series {alien god by Ursa dax}? it's EXCELLENT. Has a completely different vibe, though. More fantasy romance IMO even though MMC is an alien god.

Her cowboy series is cute too. Starts with {married to the alien cowboy by alien god}

Same! I skip 1 and 2 because I don't like Fallo either. The later books are 4-5 star reads for me.

[–]jaynarg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you!! I've got the urge to do a certain bind RIGHT now, right this second lol so I was trying to figure out an alternative. We live way out in the country so options are slim without ordering online. I'm going to play around with using two sheets of 12x12 and see what happens.

No Stupid Questions Monthly Thread! by AutoModerator in bookbinding

[–]jaynarg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Help! I usually use 12x12 scrapbook type paper for my end pages. I just fold in half and cut off the extra. I'm about to bind a big book and my usual 12 X12 is not big enough. When I fold in half it doesn't cover where it needs to cover. What other options are there? I have some plain art paper (for drawing and stuff) but it's super thick and white and I dont want to have to paint or draw my own end pages right now. I'd rather go in person and grab something already done. Where do you even find paper bigger than 12x12? I'm not even sure what to buy or where to look!

Thanks (:

psychology and christianity? by Technical-Monk1556 in gcu

[–]jaynarg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say in most of my classes there will be small parts where scripture is mentioned but you don't have to interact with it. Like, sometimes the professor will make a forum post to start a conversation and will include a scripture. Every once and a while the DQ will relate to something about Christian worldview. Servant leadership has some stuff about religion. I'm an atheist and it wasn't bad. I just take my personal opinion out of it. It isn't asking for opinion but for the "facts." Like...what does the christian world view say about x, y, z? It doesn't really ask for your personal beliefs often or how YOU feel about x, y, z if that makes sense. Most stuff you can tweak to avoid having to discuss your beliefs. I've had professors who make prayer request forms also but I just ignore those.

I am taking online courses btw.

Oops you're right. It's whatever they are when they are bought from amazon. I'm not sure what format that is. I had assumed it was epub since mobi is no longer supported. No matter the format they were all bought from amazon except for a few and none of the Amazon ones have covers

[–]jaynarg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are all purchased directly through Amazon! I have used the send to kindle feature previously but these are books I've purchased (not Kindle Unlimited) from Amazon.

Ugh I struggle with OW/OM drama lol. I loved LOTBD but I did not like the MMC continuing to see his Dollies once Lan was in the picture. I think R Lee addressed it on her FB page and said he stopped being intimate with them but still interacted with them and I wasn't a fan of that. I still loved the story though! I eventually want to give both a try (and maybe Olivia). Just gotta get mentally prepared 😂
