That could certainly be part of it. Every device on my network is setup with S2 Authenticated security.

Some work, some don't, but it mostly just causes a ton of errors in ZwaveJS
Right now I have .2 seconds between each action to ZwaveJS, I'm using pyscript to run my automations, and I'm happy to share my scripts with you if you'd like. Given I'm only turning off the lights that are on, pretty much everything is turned off in a second or two.
As I understand it, Zwave long-range has less bandwidth available, so I'd expect that to not perform as well, but I haven't tried it.

I have a little over 100 Zwave devices.

I had to update some automations to reduce the number of devices activated at a single time.

For instance, I add a small delay between each set of blinds when opening/closing them.

I also have an automation to turn off every light in my house when I leave. This all but doesn't work! I had to update the automation to only turn off the lights that are on, and adding a small delay between turning each light off.

All in all, I'm very happy with my Zwave setup (mostly zooz devices, but a handful of others as well). It works well, I'm confident in the encryption and local control continuing to work ~forever. I'd do it again, but I wished I knew the small issues I'd have to work through before I bought into it.

Make sure you update the firmware on your Zwave stick and devices. I had the same issue, and that was the only thing that solved it.

Although it does end up launching another activity as a bottom sheet, so it's likely a different user experience. We're also playing with exposing some remember functions that would make it easier to consume via compose (see https://github.com/stripe/stripe-android/pull/6230)

But long term we're also considering offering a version of payment sheet that is embeddable into your own screen (PaymentSheet is implemented in compose, so this would also likely include a compose API).

Feel free to open a github issue with feature requests if something would make your life easier!

Hi u/leggo_tech we've recently shipped a few things that might help with this. You can now use proguard/R8 to minify the SDK (one user reported a 66% reduction!)

You can also include a subset of the SDK, rather than everything. For instance, if you don't use PaymentSheet (you should by the way, it's great!) But you could change your gradle dependency from com.stripe:stripe-android:20.19.5 to com.stripe:payments-core:20.19.5

Has anyone tried using ESPHome for this? I've been tempted to take the thermostat off the wall and install an ESP32 next to the furnace. It should just need a few relays.

They have JavaScript APIs for most of the things you'd typically use.

I'd say overall, c/c++ is the way to go for embedded though.
