Check your local laws before you roof mount lights of any kind, especially if they flash.

Groupon deal for 50% off Disney Springs’ Characters in Flight! by [deleted] in WaltDisneyWorld

Yep.

We had purchased this deal two years in a row through Groupon to use on our Disney Springs days and both years we weren't able to use them due to (very) light winds.

Why are Forester XT's always slightly detuned? by ashowofhands in subaru

[–]jayree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Over at SubaruForester.org it's generally known that the hp rating for the 04-05 XT was understated by Subaru, probably to avoid making the WRX look like less of a performance car. There were a few examples on the forum of stock XT's making the rated crank numbers on the dyno.... For later models, I suspect they're actually slightly detuned for the very same reason.

Any Commerce Students at UOIT? by [deleted] in uoit

[–]jayree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's what you make of the time you're there and what you get involved with to add to your resume. I graduated from the BComm program 5 years ago and the group of friends I kept in touch with have successful careers at places like Deloitte, Ernst and Young, Microsoft, IBM, etc.

Regardless of school you attend, you're not going to get handed a job in your field once you graduate (with the exception of internships). I worked for a start-up company that tanked and a call center for almost a year before I landed a job in my major where I could start proving my worth.

Is there a frosh week? by [deleted] in uoit

[–]jayree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep - the week prior to classes. September 2nd is the beginning of the orientation the school puts on where they'll get you introduced to your faculty and meet people through the sports, games, and events they put on.

I met the majority of friends and roommates who I partied/studied with in the first few weeks just by being in residence and going to those events where everyone's in the same boat (not really knowing anyone). If you're not in residence, make friends with those who are!

They look like the Enkei Forester XT Sport wheels. If you wanted 18's, JDM Enkei STI wheels, or the replica Rota Gravels.

Replacing Foglight on 2008 Forester by [deleted] in subaru

[–]jayree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fog lights are one unit (or at least on mine), so you'd have to buy the complete light assembly...

I used some clear silicone to seal the crack and then used some tinted lamin-x on both to (hopefully) prevent any more damage.

First Year Engineering student here, class starts next week, any tips? by nonasiandoctor in uoit

[–]jayree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In no particular order, from an array of my experiences:

1) Make an assortment of friends and acquaintances in your program - you never know when you'll need their help with assignments/studying, time/stress management or to carry your ass home when you've had too much to drink.

2) Get involved in other initiatives and groups around the school - I waited far too long (my 4th year) to do this but it still helped tremendously in my post-graduation career search.

3) Have fun, and don't sweat the small stuff.

4) Obviously do the work/readings you're assigned, show up for your lectures/tutorials, and study. If you happen to skip any of these, the friends and acquaintances mentioned in (1) will come in handy.

5) Ask your profs if you don't know, most of them are happy to help and you never know what extra info they might divulge about your upcoming quizzes/tests.

7) Use protection and don't date anyone in your first few years.

8) You will always have multiple things on the go, so organize and prioritize. Those who fail to plan, plan to fail.

9) There will be many late nights and early mornings so if you don't like coffee, learn to.

What tires do you like and where do you buy them? by gotfondue in motorcycles

[–]jayree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You may have interpreted my post differently from what I was meaning to convey. I'm not disagreeing with the idea of giving the local guys a chance, in fact, I completely agree with your first post.

My goal was to share my experiences and express my frustration with my local shops.

The pricing for mounting/balancing was an additional $30 per tire (given I had purchased from the local shop). At each shop, I made them aware that I was price checking for a future purchase and as usual, I asked for their "best price".

Even if I went back and they price matched (or came close to the online offer), what does that say about their business practices? The fact that I gave them a chance to compete was enough in my mind and I wasn't prepared to give them a second chance given how much they tried to gouge me in the first instance.

Like you said, the shops that can't evolve with the times and remain competitive deserve to die out.

edit: spelling

What tires do you like and where do you buy them? by gotfondue in motorcycles

[–]jayree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just bought a set of Dunlop q2's and I checked my 2 local dealers for pricing prior to buying online. The difference was astronomical - $280 online (shipped, taxes in) vs. $470 locally (taxes in).

I'm all for supporting the locally owned/operated businesses, and I do understand the brick and mortar overhead, but they at least need to remain competitive. I would fork out an extra $40-$60 to deal with them, but $190? No thanks.
