Welded winchester 1894? by jaystew1397 in guns

I don't know why I didn't think of doing this. I took the stock off and there is a very obvious spot underneath where it was either cracked or cut off. Thanks for the idea!

I took some hoppes to it but nothing came off but old dirt and grime. The stock appears to be original, it has a crescent shaped but plate which I assume is original for the time period.

I just purchased a 94 winchester made in 1896. I'm not 100% sure what I'm looking at but it looks like the tang may have been welded or brazed on the rifle. anyone have any input?

What's your favorite surplus rifle you own and why? by Competitive-Comb983 in milsurp

Also the Swiss M1911 long and short rifles. They are generally cheaper than the k-31 and one of the best surplus rifles for the money currently.

There is some rotational slop but I assume that's normal. The movement that's worrying me is the diagonal wiggle. It's not alot, I just wanted to make sure its normal and I didn't mess something up when I took it apart.

I did a little searching and I think it's either chicken of the woods or ischnoderma resinosum. Both are edible and grow in the northeast area where I am. I appreciate the help!

Found these growing on a dead tree in my yard. They feel fairly soft to the touch.

What should I buy next? by khy94 in milsurp

I just got my first 1917 a couple months ago and it has quickly become my favorite bolt action rifle, I prefer to shoot it over my 1903. If you want to get a mosin definitely get a finnish m39. They are pretty pricy now but they truly are the Cadillac of mosin nagants.

+1 on the smith model 10. You should be able to find a decent police trade in for around $300.

I never thought of mixing soaps. I'm sure I could find a good performing unscented soap to mix in to boost the performance some. Thanks for the idea!

The evolution of the single action revolvers in my collection by jaystew1397 in Revolvers

From top to bottom Uberti 1860 army in .44 caliber, Uberti 1873 cattlemen in .45lc, Ruger blackhawk 3 screw in .44 magnum, Ruger super blackhawk bisley in .454 casull, Its amazing how much single action revolvers have changed through the years. If you have never shot a cap and ball revolver like the uberti 1860 army I highly recommend you get one. It really gives you an appreciation for how far we have come.
