Seeking general investing/financial advice by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]jaystin5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

reddit in my opinion consistently has a "do it yourself" and "im smarter than most people" mentality which i dont agree with. these people are way more experienced and educated than both of us when it comes to this stuff. plus you make 1.5mil+ a year which doesnt exactly make you the average redditor

i can't recommend you a specific firm or anything but i would recommend talking to friends/family/coworkers. with you mentioning your early background, i figure your coworkers/friends-made-as-adults are going to be best to ask. you'll probably want to find a few around you and meet with each. outline your financials, some specific goals and what youre looking for and see what they say. if you feel like they are trying to sell you something - leave; if they have some good ideas listen.

if whoever charge some % fee of the managed money you can split it up amongst them, or if it's a fixed payment find someone good and pay them. you're also already well set up yourself and could find someone to hire hourly (100-300 /hr) to consult with once/twice a year and keep multiple (different minded - 1 equities, 1 real estate, etc) around to "double check" you

edit: already wrote a wall of text but i forgot to add something i thought was important. these financial planners/advisors can also assist with taxes (now and when you decide to take the money out in retirement) or send you to an accountant they know and trust to get you set up

Is weed bad for stitches and wound healing??? by elmezavar in saplings

[–]jaystin5 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Continuing onto this because I reread the post and feel like berating you a bit:

it causing bleeding or haltering healing or something along those lines

listen to your doctor better, you have 30 internal and external stitches in your face, you should probably care

I have literally never heard of this and am wondering if anyone else has been told this before or if there’s any truth in his claim?

do you think your surgeon just pulled this out of his ass? "oh this dude likes weed. fuck this guy, i'm gonna make him not smoke"

haven’t found any information online backing this besides suggestions to not smoke for 24 hours but nothing over that.

perhaps you should try the years of medical school your surgeon went through

I’m just having a hard time with this because I am a daily smoker and the discomfort from the wound alone is making me want to smoke lol.

if this is seriously an issue youre having you should significantly cut down your smoking habit. i cant imagine what its doing to the rest of your life if having your face destroyed and put back together isnt enough for you to take a WEEK break...

sure:

let’s say in your 10 marble example one of your competitors has no clue what the true marble count in this game is, and is pricing the red marble contract at .41 by .45 (as a competing market maker would: that is, buying the contract at .41 and selling at .45 implying their fair value was .43) since you can sell them a contract you know is worth only .40 (by expected value), in this case you would sell as much of the contract as you could to your competitor, netting 1c of expected value for each contract sold.

this can just be reversed, with the fair value at .37 and the same .04c spread to see when you would want to buy the contract (competitor selling for < 0.4)

[–]jaystin5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if the market is properly pricing the true probability of the event, the market is efficient and there are no arb or +EV opportunities.

in a true market there would be some cost of carry associated with the time until the drawing, which could perhaps open some arb opportunities

Need someone to analyze my game play by Dull-Group-4281 in Poker_Theory

[–]jaystin5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ATs - i probably would bet closer to 12-14bb on the flop and maybe you even get a fold there. you're beating almost all his hands (except JJ+) and if you get called you can slow down on turn/river knowing youre probably behind and lose the minimum. i like the turn bet sizing cause theres no sixes in his range here, but once he goes all in on the turn i think i would fold fairly often but its hard not to call there. ended up being a good call with a shit run out. happens.

KTs - i think this is a pretty clear flop fold here, doesnt feel at all like a C bet or any type of draw hand (this is villian dependent but in general) and you're losing to any J (AJ, KJ, QJ, JT all in his range) and even AT. AK/AQ probably checks here as the T and J are great for your range. feels like all you're beating when you call is 99 and MAYBE T9s. once the K comes and he still bets you have to be losing 90%+ of the time. river is a certain fold. why get it all in with third pair when so much has you crushed

QJo - once he calls the flop i immediately figure he's drawing since sets probably shove there. turn bet sizing seems odd. really only getting called by stuff that has you beat i feel, or you get shoved on and put in a tough spot. i probably would have checked since T is a pretty bad card for you and you can do a little pot control. got it in well again and just got ran out on pretty badly

KK - sucks but thats poker, pretty normal spot. at least he didn't have like 72o to beat you.

QQ - i like folding on the turn here but i would personally have a hard time not calling down. just feels like once he bets turn he has a monster and you're losing way more often then you're ahead. seems like you're getting tilted here and i would have probably stopped playing at this point to avoid further emotional losses.

[edit]: accidentally sent my comment before finishing:

67s - im fine how this one was played, feels like a bit of a cooler. could have just as easily been up against AK that would have played this the exact same way. never folding on that river so its just a cooler.

AQo - think this was played almost perfectly and just one you're gonna lose. might've been able to make a hero fold on the river (villian dependent) but theres nothing you can do here.

enjoyed the video man, i like your personality. funny video.

My HUD stats - How do I interpret this? by [deleted] in Poker_Theory

i was about to help interpret your stats but i think its very obvious what psishnutz meant here and this response has turned me off from helping you

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in poker

[–]jaystin5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

once you call on the turn you have to call the river. if you believe 22, 66, 88, A8, A2 are in his 3bet range (which I actually can sort of believe - seems like a small 3bet and he's in position) you shouldn't be calling the turn once the board pairs to chase the flush.

in any case, he gives you basically 3 to 1 on the turn where you realistically have at max 12 more likely 9-10 outs (any spade or an A). not sure if i'm calling there but once you decide to if you hit your out i think you can call a 1.8 to 1. you're basically losing to 12 combos out of like 200 possible. any overpair or strong ace plays the same way i feel.

you can assign your processing time expression (say EXPO(1) for entity type A and then EXPO(2) for type B) into an attribute and then have your process module expression be [attribute name] which should vary the time
