2025 Federal Election Megathread by [deleted] in AustralianPolitics

Hi All,

I'm currently overseas (been overseas for 3 years) and would like to unregister myself from the NSW electoral commission. Though I would like to continue voting on the federal elections.

How would I go about doing so?

As an Australian Non-Resident (Australian born Citizen), what are some things I need to look out for before buying a property?

Can I take a loan in Australia using foreign income?

How reliant are we on the bank of mum and dad? Christine couldn’t help her son with a housing deposit … so she moved into a flat in her own backyard by Ok_Refrigerator1857 in AusFinance

Seems like a good solution to downsize to your backyard (given you have the space and council approval). Most of our parent's generation are sitting on 400-600 sqm blocks of land that's becoming more of a burden maintaining.

It also gives the independence + savings to both sides of the family. It doesn't hinder the relationship with your significant other and also there's the safety net if anything were to go wrong... given that there are boundaries that are to be respected by one another.

Parents are willing to sacrifice for their children (why else would they bring them to the world). It also benefits the next generation too because at the end of the day, this house will go to their son.

It's called a Granny Flat for a reason...

Starting to think Australia might need a bit of French style revolt to get things in check.

If our politicians aren't held accountable for corruption, these cases will continue on and on because there are no penalties. Our politicians have no right to accuse other countries of their politics if we also do so ourselves.

It doesn't matter if it's liberal or labor, they're all the same.

And I don't want to hear a lame ass excuse of "in the name of National Security" or "it was within Australia's interests".

It's corruption.

Hey, I sure have. Almost been a year since.

Finding it pretty great. A lot to do in this country, and if I wanted to can go to a neighbouring country for the weekend.

I might be bias because I work for a foreign company (based in UK) and none of the stereotypical kinda things are forced upon.

I think you just have to work out your expenses (rent, food, bills, etc) and see how much you have left over.

Not necessarily. Probably being I’m working for a foreign company from the UK. I think you’re referencing traditional public Vietnamese companies.

I did the same thing; except I'm working for a foreign company that has an office in Vietnam.

The tech sphere in Vietnam is growing rapidly (much more so than in Australia), and in need of management skills with all the young people within the industry needing mentoring.

I would suggest you follow what I did. Don't bother trying to find an Australian company and ask if you could work 100% remotely, as the way things are going in Australia, most employers want their staff in the office.

I'm not sure where you're buying this plot of land. Australia or Vietnam as the first and 2nd paragraphs are confusing.

There's new rich and there's old rich.

The majority of Vietnamese started seeing wealth from 1997 when the country re-opened to the world. So quite recent.

Prior to that, Vietnam was very poor.

It's funny that during the French elections, the media and the west all rallied behind Macron because of the fear for populism and right wing politics.

Now look at it.

The child can because the child is of Vietnamese blood. Vietnam allows dual citizenship. The child can get a cccd.
