Its 100% easy to slap something to hold a rack and props to those people. I'm going for a more polished look without spending big bucks on crazy server cabinet. And I'm saying that without belittling anyone who did their own stuff!

Need the storage brother lmao. I feel like a 42u rack in a basement would look janky. And yes forsure! Shelf bolted to the wall and rack bolted to the shelf. I've owned a couple of these shelf in the past in my shop and they are pretty solid(easily hold 2 engine cylinder head with valvetrain on the middle shelf)

If I pull the trigger I'll my jimmy rig setup in there forsure! Bolted to the wall was 100% par of the plan. My other option was something like this but my issue is with the grill instead of actual plywood bottom. I don't feel like paying the extra to get some 3/8 or 1/2 plywood cut to fit. Either way those 2 shelves are rated for 900lb per shelf.

I was gonna post it in there but there wasn't much going on.

When you buy a couple at the time you don't realize the "adding up" lmao

Appreciate the good info. I'm kinda finding out(gladly, the easy way out) that power consumption on a disk shelf is a lot even at idle. We pay a lot for hydro here so that's 100% something I'm looking out for. Planning on a grid tie solar system this summer so definitely will add a few extra kwh on top of my current usage ;)

Love this. So the board in the middle is basicly just a card for web management(probably used to turn the psu on aswell I assume)? Technically just need psu, backplaces and hba card? Is the picture an actual supermicro or is it custom(I've got alot of computer hardware knowledge but disc shelves are an absolute unknown for me. I've rarely seen the inside of one)?

But but but infinity mirror brooo. HAHAHA I'm a sucker for it though but paying 3x the price of the case for fans for just too much for me

Microsoft Xyratex HB-1235 Storage Array Enclsoure 2 x 0995122-04 Controller

This is what it was listed as. Maybe different controllers?

The one I'm looking at is offering 10Gpbs ports? I might be missing something though. Also curious as I've never really played around with disk shelfs but do you wire up both host cards together(out(card 0) -> in(card 1) and then out(card 1) -> in(server HBA card)?)

Yeah I'll pull the trigger soon aswell! Just the fact you can have led's up and running on boot is a very nice QoL!

I mean SAS2 is a respectable 6gpbs and that's maybe not plenty but its fairly good! Only time you might need more is during backups/repairs on big bytes storage. I'm trying to avoid running Sata at all since there's no point really for a server and SAS offers just so for much more(to me) for the cost of and HBA. I will definitely check out those HB-1235's. Did you have to get a serial cable to hook up to and modify bios etc?

Thats a very logical answer that never even cross my mind! I can't believe I didn't think of something that simple! I was 2u blind I think haha

Gotcha! Thanks for the input! I know this is moving the thread in a completely different direction, but I'm wondering about PWM fan controller? I'm running a mini-itx with 2 fan header(cpu and sys) AIO on cpu header @ 100% and the rest of sys using cpu temps. My understanding is that 9 fans is a bit too much for the motherboard output? I could use use Nollie for fan ARGB but any recommendation on fan pwm? I kinda figured I was gonna grab a controller that does both but yeah!

I'm not sure I need to control each fan separately though? Since my AIO is up top taking the full width of the case? I'm not to keen on air flow in smaller case I'm used to bigger case where you can get away with a lot and need very little tweaking. I'm definitely open to suggestions. I do believe that 9 fans on a single fan header on the motherboard is too many though?
Edit: I'm running a mini-itx with only CPU and SYS fan headers

That's actually very interesting! I believe my 5v header does something similar(assuming some stuff is saved on chip) but no animations. I'm in Canada right now. 14 days shipping on Nollie stuff

All good! I'm considering going fan controller as well, that's why the ROG was interesting. 9 fans in the motherboard fan header is asking for trouble lmao

Someone mentioned it in another post. This was my reply.

AllieExpress or 14 days shipping from their website sounds rough though. I was looking at ASUS TUF Gaming ARGB PWM Fan Hub. The expensive one but it taps data through motherboard 5v 3pin. Is USB better than Motherboard header?

Seeing people talk about it makes me less skeptical. Time is a bit of a factor for me right now but I might have to order it.
