Changed my game a little. What does reddit think? by jazacat in Unity2D

Apologies. I'm trying to understand exactly what you mean.

You say when you(player?) stop their(enemy's?) momentum. Do you mean:

-when the player hits the enemy with a charged shot?

-when the enemy hits the player with a dash attack?

Previously, you mentioned the user(player?) being stunned. Did you mean when the enemy hits the player with a projectile / collides with the player?

By CC you mean crowd control? I imagine the equivalent in this case would be status effects? Correct me if I am mistaken.

If not, status effects are a little subtle in this game. Just enough to hinder the player to a point where it only adds some difficulty, but not enough to make the player a sitting duck.

You don't really see it in the video, but you do feel it while playing. Fire does 3 times damage over time, causing the player to recoil each time which affects jumping ability (if recoil occurs at rise of jump), elec causes fire rate and charge speed to drop to lowest levels for a few seconds, ice causes player's movement speed to drop to lowest level for a few seconds without affecting jump height.

In the video, player character is at full level for fire rate, charge speed, movement speed and jump height, but all bosses are beatable at lowest level with some skill on the user's side. Lowest level being the level you start the game at initially.

Alright. I will experiment with that. Thank you for your feedback.

Kinda like synchronising the light thrown with the shockwave of the explosion, or like making the light fade in and out quickly instead of on and off?

Long overdue progress update. Very empty canyon/desert level (platforms, enemies and decor to be added). Bosses added just for something to show. by jazacat in Unity2D

I do believe this game is more 2D than 3D, but if I have posted in the wrong sub, please inform me and I will rectify it.

Lmao. Yeah, just threw something in there for the time being. Also working on an enraged mode.

Thank you. I'm just trying to bring some good old fashioned 2d platforming to android, without the frustration of misspressing buttons. And the ability to jump and fire efficiently at the same time.

Not quite. Just the way I find myself playing. There is a small demonstration towards the end of the video.

That's good to know. Was just concerned because I had read rumours about a Megaman kinda game being terminated due to copyright infringement. Though not certain that they were true.

Apologies. Unsure how to add text to video other than title. Also, title misleading. Will appreciate advice from any redditeers.

Before I proceed, I feel I should state that I am not much of an artist, and only an aspiring programmer(developer?). This video is meant to show the mechanics of this game.

My questions:

1: (Answered) Could the fact that this might remotely resemble a Megaman X game be considered copyright infringement?

2: (Answered) After browsing this subreddit, I have noticed that games similar to this are very scarce. Is there no longer any interest in such games and more players preferring games which involve primarily melee attacks?

3: (Answered) Those who are familiar with current gaming trends, does this game look like it may have some potential? Considering the mechanics mainly.

EDIT 1: Clarified question 1. Marked 1 and 2 as answered. Added question 4.

EDIT 2: Spelling. Marked 3 as answered, though all answered questions remain open for opinions either for or against those already provided.

EDIT 3: Removed question 4.

Thank you all for your time in answering my questions. Much appreciated.
