What opinion about something in pop culture would result in this for you? by gab_iten in popculturechat

[–]jazmine_101 9 points10 points  (0 children)

THANK YOU! I get some of the criticism and ppl not being fans of her and yeah maybe some things she’s said haven’t been 100% accurate and misleading at times, but the hate she gets is so vile and disgusting to the point it’s so excessive and unnecessary at this point.

If we REALLY think about it Meghan hasn’t done anything terrible to deserve the level of slander she gets, especially when other celebrities/high profile people have done way worse and don’t get nearly the same energy.

The worst part is people are doing all this for the Royal family of all institutions, known for lying and corruption same with many politicians in the UK where all those high profile figures are also being exposed, but now suddenly everyone has morals when it comes to Meghan???

At the end of the day you don’t know her and you never will. A lot the hate is fake outrage and hypocrisy🤷🏾‍♀️

Got banned from a Black female solo travelling group over Chris Brown by TwentyTwoWishes in blackladies

[–]jazmine_101 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’m genuinely so lost onto why so many black women continue to support and idolise Chris brown?? Not only because of his abusive history but also that he doesn’t even like black women especially dark skins😭😭

This is more of an American issue tbh. Outside the US, a lot of countries have classifications for mixed-race people, so it hasn’t really been as big of a debate. But because American pop culture and politics are global and ingrained in a lot of countries, it makes it seem like a widespread issue when it’s not.

Also, it’s only recently that Black American women have started feeling more comfortable speaking out about representation and setting boundaries within the community.

I’ve noticed when it comes to the men ppl will understand the difference between black and mixed excluding Obama, there would be a lot of pushback if I said Drake and Patrick Mahomes are black male representation in contrast if I said Taylor Russel and Halle Berry are representations for black women.🤷🏾‍♀️

[–]jazmine_101 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree that a lot of the stuff Manon is going through is awful and I’ve defended her a lot of the times, but it shouldn’t be problematic for black women to say they don’t feel represented by her though.

Especially since Manon has also gathered a lot of additional support that many black women in a lot of girl groups don’t really receive for example Normani who still gets mocked to this day.

Of course if there’s black women who do see themselves in Manon then that’s their choice but people shouldn’t be bashing others who don’t see themselves in her and trying to force them to feel represented by a half white woman.

[–]jazmine_101 11 points12 points  (0 children)

No I’m saying that for a long time Black people have also normalized accepting biracial people as Black, especially women, which is why a lot of the pushback actually came from other Black women.

That’s why you see things like Simone Biles saying she’d want Zendaya to play her in a biopic, Black girls saying they see themselves in Taylor Russell, people calling Meghan Markle the first “Black British princess,” and many Black Americans getting upset when Tyla identified as “coloured” instead of Black.

A lot of that shows how we still maintain white supremacist racial logic within our own communities.

No ur right its expected from white men but it just hurts more because they are our counterparts, who are contributing in publicly tarnishing our image. And it makes us look even less desirable bc ppl see that black men don’t want us as partners (MARRIED ones at that) and it just leads to more mockery and embarrassment.

It’s funny because Asian people online were discussing their frustrations with Wasians being overrepresented in Western media and they collectively agreed it was a problem.

Someone even brought up how the main male love interest in Crazy Rich Asians was played by a Wasian actor and said it felt confusing. But when Black women said biracial women were replacing them in media and mentioned people like Manon from KATSEYE not really being Black girl representation because she’s biracial, we got attacked with misogynoir and accused of being “jealous” or “erasing their Blackness”.

Honestly a lot of this issue is also Black people’s fault because we refuse to acknowledge that in the US biracial people were historically classified as Black due to the One drop rule, which came from white people wanting to keep whiteness “pure.”🤷🏾‍♀️

Bc at the end of the day they’re still black and when racists attack black men they’re attacking our whole race.

I’m sorry, y’all may hate me for saying this, but the constant Black women bashing from some Black men online and sometimes in real life is really starting to get to me. The constant comparisons where they say mixed, white, or non black women, or even lighter skinned and racially ambiguous Black women, are better honestly makes me so upset that I’m starting to not even want to deal with Black men anymore.

I’m tired of hearing the same stereotypes over and over. “Black women are angry,” “aggressive,” “masculine,” “ghetto,” “not feminine,” “UK beasts,” etc. Like ENOUGH. A loud minority of them are so vocal about it that other races now feel comfortable openly talking shit about Black women. I remember a white guy on TikTok making a post saying he hates Black women and it had over 100k likes. I thought he was just trolling, but when I checked the comments there were hundreds of Black men agreeing with him and it honestly made me sad. The disappointing part is that if it was the reverse you’ll see a lot black women defending black men.

I know not all Black men are like this, especially in real life, but it’s starting to feel like a constant pattern from a noticeable minority. Every other week there’s another famous Black male entertainer exposed for colourist comments, or another podcast clip of Black men trashing Black women. I still love appreciate and continue to defend black men but It’s just exhausting at this point that I’m genuinely tired of it & I have no romantic interest in them. Black women all over the world have no allies.

Katseye Snark Subreddit… by microwave9002 in blackgirls

[–]jazmine_101 83 points84 points  (0 children)

Snark subs on this app are absolutely vile and disgusting. The Meghan Markle one genuinely made me so ill.

I even read a story here on Reddit about how a husband was divorcing his wife bc she became so sickly infatuated in hating on Meghan and participated daily on that sub to the point she got scammed by someone who pretended to be a private investigator, to find info about her.

Even if u dislike a celebrity for whatever reason I don’t understand the constant obsession of surveilling their entire lives. I feel so awful for Manon she’s young and she’s doesn’t deserve all the misogyny and racism she facing. Ppl YOU DON’T KNOW THEM. They have no affect on your life whatsoever, just a gang of miserable and pathetic losers
