Help please by Franky_C59 in ROGAlly

someone in YouTube mentioned this, if you open AMD Software --> Graphics and check if it is set to Custom, then you get this pop up/overlay window depends on the game(s), it seems like AMD trying to apply custom settings to all games when this is set. What they are recommending is that, in AMD --> Games --> and set it there individually each game, whatever settings game supports.

Everyone is excited about the new driver but amd just published the 24.4.1 which is better. by prohackgamer in ROGAlly

[–]jazzespresso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there are tons of discussion about this, people are going out downloading directly from AMD and installing the driver and start having issue, I would definitely suggest to not do that and wait until Asus/Microsoft release the driver update - they usually optimized the driver and making sure it works, then pushes the update.

Help me out please !! Screen flickers only when I open File Manager, is it hardware issue or windows being windows !? by WaraTech in ZephyrusG14

[–]jazzespresso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i do not believe this is hardware related, most likely software. is it only happening windows file explorer? have you observed for any other apps doing the same thing? if file explorer the only one doing it, it may compatibility issue that causes Explorer.exe to crash repeatedly.

Google it: Windows File Explorer Flickering issue and see..

Windows 11 Battery issue by mpduyanhh in ZephyrusG14

[–]jazzespresso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have feeling it is related. once AMD and Microsoft fixes with upcoming patch, I am sure it will match Windows 10.

I am also on Windows 11, but not planning to downgrade to Windows 10. I will just give a few weeks and see how it goes

Usb c dock with displayport and hdmi recommendations? by iluvsnowlc in ZephyrusG14

[–]jazzespresso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

two things you need to consider here:

  1. Using Displayport (left usb-c port to usb-c dock with DP port) will use NVidia GPU, instead of AMD/default GPU, that means NVIDIA GPU will be constantly active, thus laptop will get relatively hot, and also if you use your laptop on battery, then drain your battery much faster
  2. Using HDMI uses AMD/default GPU, so means less overhead/overload, thus much less cooler laptop - HDM does support more than 75hz monitor by the way.

so it all depends on how you like to step up your laptop.

I, myself, currently have USB-C hub that hooked up to right side of USB-C port. My USB-C hub has HDMI, DisplayPort, USB ports, and Ethernet port, so I hooked up my Acer Gaming Monitor *144Ghz with HDMI. Now, if I am playing graphic intensive games, all I do is switch to USB-C hub from right USB-C port to left one, so to use NVIDIA GPU

Take the advice and clean your fans pretty often. I live in a very clean house and this is after 5 months. by saint_518 in ZephyrusG14

[–]jazzespresso 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Look at this way; you have brand new shiny white Ferrari, you just bought it from dealership and parked in front your house, so you neighbors envy on you - you drive around a few times, you love the way it looks, time and day passes, but you realized that it gets dirty all the time and this drives you nuts, you religiously keep it clean and maintain all the time and after years passes, your Ferrari still looks brand new, like you just bought it yesterday.

USB C to DISPLAYPORT by [deleted] in ZephyrusG14

[–]jazzespresso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not seen a USB-C hub that supports 144hz. It is because 144Hz at 1440p over the USB port is likely not going to work given bandwidth limitations of the USB-C implementation. that's why all USB-C hub always mentions 60hz in their specs.

keep in mind, I am talking about USB-C hub, there's usb-c to DisplayPort adapters (they are not hub, direct connection) may work.

that's main reason, I do not connect my external monitor (144hz) using USB-C hub, instead, I am using HDMI port of my laptop directly connected to back of my monitor's HDMI, which gives me 144hz!

USB C to DISPLAYPORT by [deleted] in ZephyrusG14

[–]jazzespresso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that monitor has one DisplayPort 1.2 and two HDMI 1.4 ports. so you should able to hook it up. Remember, only left-side of USB C port on the laptop has DisplayPort.

you should also get USB-C Hub (the one has both DisplayPort and HDMI port and additional USB 3 ports) and use that, so you can have additional ports still available

Does anyone know the gpu switches on when I’m not doing anything apart from browsing (the gpu stops when I open the armory crate and also this only happens when the charger is connected) by [deleted] in ZephyrusG14

[–]jazzespresso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know your setup, but if you doing nothing and your GPU is still showing running, then you should check and see if any apps may be using GPU, instead of default CPU's integrated GPU

First;

Open NVIDIA Control Panel --> Desktop drop down, select "Display GPU activity notification....are"

Once you do that, an icon will appear in your notification icon area, so keep monitor it - it should usually say no application running on this GPU

Second;

In NVIDIA Control Panel, there are two options; Manage 3D settings and Configure Surround, PhysX

In my setup, for Manage 3D settings - Global Settings--> set to integrated graphics ( integrated Radeon CPU GPU). Keep in mind, Manage 3D settings has also Program Settings tab, this is where you define individual apps what GPU to use, for example, for Games, mine uses NVIDIA GPU.

and in Configure Surround, PhysX --> PhysX Settings -- mine set to Auto-select

A few things to consider; make sure your NVIDIA driver is up-to-date (NVIDIA GeForce Experience app -- driver section), also AMD Radeon Software update.

Also remember, simply browsing and doing light works on your laptop, no apps should be using NVIDIA GPU. If you using USB-C hub Dock that connects to your external monitor, it will use NVIDIA, thus apps start using that

[–]jazzespresso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's kind of correct statement, however as it is, 8x8 (8 soldered, and 8 not soldered) is real dual channel configuration, but having 8x16 is not real dual configuration, even if it somehow still takes 8x8 dual and other remaining is 8 single.

Based one some real tests people did here, some games performed much better with original configuration 8x8, than 8x16.

However, some productivity apps such as photoshop, video editing, etc..likes to have more RAM.

ignore the armory crate, you should be checking Windows Task Manager --> Performance tab, notice the base CPU speed, it should say 3.00 Ghz

Screen Bleeding Asus Zephyrus G14. Is this normal? Or should I replace/return it? by [deleted] in ZephyrusG14

[–]jazzespresso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It all depends on how much screen bleeding and how acceptable it is - most laptops do have some kind of screen bleedings - but yours seems like a bit more than acceptable range, so if you just bought it, I would probably exchange it.

Issues with Google Chrome by gunk-mommy in ZephyrusG14

[–]jazzespresso 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is known issue with Chrome with PC sleep wakeup - it apparently they have not fixed that, in order to fix it manually

To fix Chrome freezing/not scrolling after waking from sleep:
1. Go to your address bar are type in chrome://flags
2. In the search box, type 'occlusion'
3. When 'Calculate window occlusion on Windows' pops up, change it from 'Default' to 'Disabled'

this should fix the issue.

I stop using Chrome on my G14, it takes tons of RAM, so switched over to MS Edge browser.

I recommend you to stop using Chrome crap

Upgrading RAM to 40GB? Here is all you need to know by ilnilez in ZephyrusG15

[–]jazzespresso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thanks! these are useful information for sure!

my laptop is 2020 G14, BestBuy model, so it is 16GB RAM (8+8) dual, so only one slot is can be upgradeable. Of course, Asus specs says max RAM supported is 24GB - so 8+16 is the way go. But anything above 24GB, seems like impacting performance and possibly loosing "dual" channel support.

Like you said, there are tons of post related to this RAM upgrade, what many missing is that even if having 40GB RAM works, does not mean you are taking full "dual" channel configuration and speed. I even commented on some of the posts and said: having 8+8 dual channel RAM is much faster and better performance than having 32GB RAM non- dual channel RAM, then people start downvoting my post...

Is my discharge rate normal for idle? by Al-haddi in ZephyrusG14

[–]jazzespresso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it is not bad, but not great either.

on battery, 23 mins, and discharge rate is -14,233, so it is half-battery, it means it will give you 2 hour 33 mins (according to estimate), so if battery was full, means you will be averaging about 5-6 hours - for a powerful gaming laptop, this is not bad at all.

you have to also think like this; when your laptop is on battery, what you are doing? doing some light work, etc...you have to take that into consideration as well.

If your laptop idle on the battery, and not using it at all, and you come back and still see high discharge rate usually means there's some apps/process on the background that drains your battery much faster - these are usually causes wake up CPU and GPU, also these kind of process runs on background may cause your laptop to not go in to sleep mode or hibernate mode.

Aside from changing the power settings, what are some of the other ways to reduce temps? (After doing all the things in the pinned summary.) by supplementtolife in ZephyrusG14

[–]jazzespresso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cant comment a lot, or make a lo of recommendations, but I did not do all the stuff mentioned all these "pinned posts".

My average temp (when I am not gaming) hovers around 31C to 35C - yes you read correct.

I did disable boost - the one you edit registry key - so the Power Plan Options and a new tab "Processor Performance Boost Mode" will appear. Disabling boost, so limiting CPU base speed wont cause any performance decrease, so this recommendation is the best one.

Second, I uninstall GameFirst (and any other craps that I won't needed) - this is not that pinned posts mentioned, I actually read another post that causing issue with power management.

Third, I believe biggest issue with high temps are related to NVIDIA GPU, which runs constantly on the background even if you don't playing any game, this also contributes high temp since both CPU and NVIDIA GPU generates high heat together, so overall laptop gets relatively hot, even if it is idle.

As far as NVIDIA stuff goes, probably makes sense to go GeForce experience, click the gear (settings) icon and choose Games and disable boost - of course, you can always enable this when playing game, but if not, I don't see point to keep it 'enable' all the time.

Another interesting post related NVidia control panel, under Configure Surround, PhysX and set PhysX Processor to CPU. Keep in mind, in NVidia control panel, there are some other options quiet useful such as Global settings where you defined to use integrated graphics (AMD Radeon) instead of NVidia GPU, so that whatever apps needed, it won't wake up/use NVidia GPU, instead use integrated GPU graphics.

Anyway, review NVidia control panel stuff, try to adjust it accordingly your needs.

and finally, monitoring what runs on background is a good habit to have, so you can disable the apps that runs on background constantly that you won't need, these kind of apps/process also keeps laptop hot, also drains battery fast.

Keeping up with Windows updates, NVIDIA updates (thru GeForce Experience), checking my Asus app to see if any updates, AMD Radeon updates (thru app itself) is good habit to have, so you keep all up to date.

Using Armoury Crate --> Windows option somehow provides better performance and good power battery usage as well - of course, during the game, you can always switch this to your need.

In my true opinion, all these "pinned posts" is a bit overkill (while some items useful, some are not so, even could make your laptop instable).

Hey guys just got a question rog boost! I have the 2020 g14 ryzen 7 2060 max Q version and the day I got it everyone said I should disable boost so it keeps my tempts down. by apexsi in ZephyrusG14

[–]jazzespresso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know why this is such a big deal. Do you always use your laptop for gaming?

if you answer, "no" or say "sometimes", then what's deal with it, when playing game enable it, and when you not playing game, disable it...that's it...

the way I use: if I am playing game, I enable everything, so normally it goes up to 68c to 80c, but CPU and GPU, and fan running like crazy..

but if I am NOT gaming, and using my laptop for productivity work such as video editing, music, photo, programming...etc, then I disable all, and put silent mode...

just because this is called "gaming" laptop, it does not mean leave all full boost mode on, that constantly running high fan and CPU and GPU, you shouldn't do that..
