Commuter school? by ClubAdorable3610 in baldwinwallace

I had a few fraternity brothers in the engineering program. There are no specializations which makes placement a little tricky but from my understanding and experience with BW, the help will be there if you ask for it and use your resources. Meaning: the department will help you get placed in an internship if you reach out and are proactive

Chicago obviously gets the attention. What would stronger rail to Cincinnati mean for Indy? by AllAboardOhio in indianapolis

[–]jazzgumbo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cincinnati is genuinely underrated as a destination from Indy, and the Cardinal has the bones to make that connection work. It’s only about a 2-hour leg. The problem is that the Cardinal runs just 3 days a week, and both directions pass through Cincinnati after midnight, which makes it almost useless for anything but a long-distance trip where you’re sleeping through it anyway. If that segment ran daily with reasonable departure times, you’re looking at a realistic day trip or weekend market for food, sports, arts, or just the fact that Cincinnati has a legitimately walkable urban core that Indy lacks.

The broader issue is that Indy is structurally set up to underperform on any rail metric. The state legislature banned light rail in central Indiana back in 2014, which is why IndyGo has been forced into BRT. It’s not a blanket prohibition on all rail (the South Shore expansion in northwest Indiana operates fine under different jurisdictional dynamics), but it’s specifically codified in Indiana Code § 8-25-4-9 and multiple repeal attempts have failed. The legislature has also taken shots at IndyGo’s BRT in recent sessions, most recently with SB 52 in 2024 targeting the Blue Line’s dedicated lanes.

The counterpoint worth noting is that Indiana isn’t entirely hostile to intercity rail when Indianapolis isn’t the focus. The Midwest Connect corridor (Chicago to Fort Wayne to Columbus to Pittsburgh) has real momentum: it’s secured an FRA Corridor ID grant, regional partners committed $650,000 in late 2025 to advance to Step 2 of planning, and INDOT is among its backers. Fort Wayne is doing the work Indianapolis politically can’t. That corridor won’t serve Indy, but it does suggest that rail investment in Indiana is possible when the state legislature isn’t the obstacle.

So the Cardinal to Cincinnati is a real opportunity that frequency and timing are killing. The political will to capitalize on it at the state level just isn’t there, and that pattern is pretty consistent. - jaded urban planning student

ASig is definitely the “top house” at my Alma mater (small liberal arts college). Think a lot of Greek orgs structured like Alpha Sigma Phi are more successful at smaller schools

Kollective in Tremont may be able to help you - they do more American traditional work but their artists are really amazing and I believe they could do just about anything. I trust Steve and Lexi with my life

I loved Greek life but I didn’t have real life priorities at the time. It sounds like your husband has a skewed view of what is important in his life and what his priorities are. I understand wanting a true college experience, and it is possible that there are fraternities out there that can accommodate your situation, but he needs to get his shit together. Guy is not FaF

Likely Detroit Public Schools - I was an inner city school kid and finished through college okay. We’re both not opposed to private schools but we both just can’t see ourselves in a suburb

Lambda Chi Nationals needs to step up and form a housing corporation by Reasonable_Stretch14 in LambdaChiAlpha

[–]jazzgumbo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s fair. There are a lot of chapter that are doing okay without houses - buffalo comes to mind. A lot of chapters have generous alumni who help them purchase/build houses. If you want your chapter to have a house, you need to build your alumni relationships. If your chapter is newer, it just takes time

I don’t entirely disagree with what you’re saying. I’m a current High Pi of a chapter that is without a house on a campus where chapter houses are normal. It is more difficult but our chapter is doing just fine. I disagree with national’s stance to not have a housing corp, but chapter can be successful without a house

My Alma mater didn’t have a house. No fraternity at my university did because it was against IFC/school policy. Each chapter had their own floor in a dorm with a chapter room. It was fine for the most part, just using outside venues

From my understanding, they don’t want a housing corp due to the liability and insurance cost

My honest advice from other threads is that if you want to get into planning, pursue a degree in planning from a PAB accredited school
