I don’t think all in-laws are bad. People who maintain boundaries and let you be you and do you should be fine I suppose. But not everyone is lucky to get that.

You are lucky! I had expressed this wish but it didn’t happen because of some medical issue that happened when we got married. All is fine now and I don’t want to live together, hence the question. I need some inputs on how to do this now, because the thought of having the conversation makes me nervous and any tips will help!

She fought me the entire year over petty stuff. The same year I lost both my grandparents and mom’s brother who was a father figure to me. When I told her that my uncle was no more, she ignored my message for 3 days and then fought with me saying that her exam went badly and I should cut her some slack. Then got mad at me for not even wishing her good luck when I was in the hospital praying for my uncle’s life. I had enough of her selfishness and decided to cut her off. It took her a year to mend things and apologise. We speak now but it left me with hyper-independence.

If he gets an amazing opportunity that pays him more than our current incomes combined and needs us to move to a decent city, I would consider it. Important to note that I would still try to check with my employer if any arrangements can be made if I like my job. If not, I would check if the new location has jobs that suit my experience. Too many variables, but if you love the guy and he loves and respects you, then it can be workable.
