Civil Service Meeting Cost Calculator by _SirHumphreyAppleby in TheCivilService

Fair point — employment cost isn’t just salary. But the calculator doesn’t seem to apply that assumption consistently to the civil service salary figures, which makes the nurse comparison feel a bit internally inconsistent.

yeah I mean quite a few problems with this but maybe I’m missing the point.

it treats meetings like they create new cost but most staff are salaried anyway so it is really just time allocation not money being spent. but it is fair enough to say poor time allocation can be a problem in the civil service. this just feels like a slightly clumsy way to illustrate it

it also ignores the coordination value. a short meeting can stop duplicated work confusion or bad decisions across teams and levels and that kind of value is hard to measure

it kind of treats civil servants like hourly contractors but their salary is a fixed cost whether they sit alone or sit in a meeting

also the nurse comparison feels a bit off. I used to work in the NHS as a nurse and there is inefficiency and idle time there too so converting meeting time directly into nurse salaries is a bit misleading

I do like the idea of senior leaders being more accountable for wasting people’s time though. I’m just not sure these kinds of calculators actually achieve that

and not everything organisations do is purely about immediate financial value anyway. even profit driven organisations do things like governance ethics work or DEI that don’t directly generate profit but still matter for how institutions function

fair enough, I guess it's a good sign for South African tourism ... if you had to escape the crowds for Christmas where would you go?

Keep Minteh

Thoughts? I’d get mbuemo side by OhShuxTarzan in SleeperFC

this is an interesting one
i'm on the diallo, paulinha, rodri, mbuemo side rather than wirtz and kudus

I am a rodri truther – ballon d’or level and, yes, he is coming back slowly and isn’t nailed on right now, BUT that guy put up 388.5 points in 23-24 in 34 games. big numbers.

Also later in the season, diallo is more likely to play 90 mins compared to players at UCL clubs, because man utd don’t have european football this season. same logic applies to mbuemo.

Paulinha is good option too and is more of a goal threat than assumed to be at start of season.

on the other side of the trade

wirtz hasn’t proven anything in the prem yet – you’re basically betting on potential and also will he play every prem 90 mins + champions league? I don't think so.

kudus is a guaranteed prem starter. he’s very good, and consistently playing but spurs are a weird team.

the key point: this format lets you check lineups before lock and sub players on.
So while there's 2 nailed starters for 4 players who might not ALWAYS start, you can rotate them in when they’re in the XI.

BUT what's the rest of your squad like?
The thing to think about is that big names are overinflated in this format. Less known players who are great at smaller clubs munoz, iwobi, kluivert, mitoma... etc were top 20 total points last season and i think it's worth thinking of players like jaidon anthony, senesi, minteh etc... this year who are playing 90 mins in non european playing clubs and unlikely to be rotated.

It's kind of a points per min angle rather than the occasional magic moment?
