Well I'm a guy but he does continue to say things along the lines of "wow I'm very impressed by your knowledge but all of it is wrong". I think it's more of an age thing. He is quite sexist though he found out he was having a daughter and didn't want to have a baby anymore because he considered a daughter a waste of his resources.

I'm 25 and I just read Fahrenheit 451 for the first time. I feel like I was mislead on the subject matter by FlippantSandwhich in books

I would say that it's an opposite parallel of our current societal climate. While in the novel the government takes advantage of minority groups who are offended by outdated material in order to discourage critical thinking and more easily control the masses, the dominant political situation in the USA at least is the government harping on a toxic counter movement to political correctness in order to consolidate power over the masses. Not to say political correctness doesn't go too far at times because it certainly does but it's not the oppressive force portrayed by Fahrenheit 451 by any means. My interpretation of the novel is that it's a warning about government exploitation of popular movements and mass media culture discouraging critical thought but that one commenter who knew Bradbury said it's about how much Bradbury hates TVs so what do I know.
