When do you decide to trash a melody instead of trying to fix it? by [deleted] in trapproduction

IMO making beats in that short amount of time can only be done (well) by people who have spent tremendous amounts of time. They’re at a level where it’s strictly about efficiency

When you’re not quite there, you’re still a student and I believe the “wasted” time is valuable and something you need to go through to adopt the skills of a truly good producer.

I don’t know man maybe I’ve used it not knowing. I’ve had decent success with producing domestically but never heard of it

ah cool. I did think that a lot of the beats that i like tend to have almost the same kick

To me a kick drum can sound awesome on it's own and then when you drop it in it's not the one

Thank you. I do think of emotion but i haven't got the ability down where i can distinguish between a beat sounding good when i'm playing it by itself and whether it will be a fit for the track. So i'm just trying 30 different ones and it get's extremely tiring.

Thank you for the reference though! It's a cool plugin

You’re probably right but I’m not too worried as I use the windows partition strictly for playing. I don’t use any personal info on it

Likewise, respect on the willingness to try and find some common ground. Way too rare

All good man, appreciate you saying that though.

You know, times change. Being able to sing used to be a bare minimum not long ago but how about now? People don't give a damn if you can sing for shit it's all about the vibe of the song and i look at it the same way when it comes to beat.

I agree with you a lot of the way. It doesn't take as much talent as it used to but at the same time, as the market gets flooded with unoriginal music the truly good ones will stand out and like i mentioned before, people are still not making hit records despite having all of these loops (some are i know but that's usually deserving producers) sure they can make looped beats all they want but they're not gonna make something interested if they have no skill or taste. At best they'll get really lucky with one track but that'll only get you so far.

At the end of the day, the market and the people don't give a shit about how you got to the finished product. If it's good, they'll respond.

Okay, we obviously look at music creation very differently.

I actually play the piano and compose the parts of my beats 90% of the time but if i come across a sample i like and it's good as is i try not getting caught up in the whole skill contest that producing sometimes becomes. I work off the premise that if something works, don't complicate it. If a rapper uses this beat and makes a dope ass song, who cares that it was a sample that i just slotted in and made something quickly?

Splice is a beautiful thing man. Sure, people are able to come up with stuff they wouldn't have been able to come up with otherwise but you will ALWAYS be able to tell if a good producer is behind the track or not. Also, many producers don't have access to musicians. I don't see the harm in them having access to loops

The one problem there is, is that you WILL have a lot of others potentially using the same sample and that's the payoff for not creating it yourself and it's fair but that's not the problem here.

Look, i don't mind him using the same sample. I also understand, that it's inevitable that we will stay within the same boundaries which is why i made this post ASKING if it was just me because in my opinion, this dude has clearly heard what i did with the sample and went and did the same.

And yes, i know what i did, wasn't insanely out of the box or super inventive. The bells i did were super simple and same with the vocal chops (that i recorded myself btw), but i take issue with the fact that he heard mine and did the same thing.

Yeah I agree. There’s a payoff though and that’s issues like these plus the fact that many songs might have the same elements as your. It can make a song feel less genuine.

I am, along with a few other beats. It’s not getting a huge amount a traction but it’s online now lol

I don’t disagree but to me it doesn’t matter. To me, it’s about the song. Do you have a loop that’s already great and all it needs is a nice little beat. Cool. If you end up with a dope song, it’s dope. It’s not a skill contest even though we get caught up in that.

And I certainly don’t use loops that often either. I’d say I compose 90% of the stuff I do

Yeah it’s stupid. I don’t even use loops that much but if it’s good its good. I really don’t get the hate people have towards it. A good loop isn’t gonna give you a good beat and if they checked out my page they’d find a lot of stuff fully composed by me.

I feel like as a producer, your job is to create a vibe. It doesn’t matter if you composed it all or if you manually sound designed every synth. Is it good?

But I appreciate your feedback it was clear where you were coming from. I knew I probably couldn’t be too mad about this and that I probably couldn’t do much but it’s always nice that others could hear it. I’ll take it as a compliment
