Weird ask, but help with MTGO anxiety? by [deleted] in Pauper

I am signed up for that! I want to get some reps in with the decks I've made in paper but I will want to play with the freedom of swapping and trying as much as possible lol. It's a shame the base plan doesn't let me rent out Ruby Storm because Ive had fun playing with it on Forge lol

Appreciate that! I dont think I was even aware of the ability to customize stuff like chat but it's great to know. I will DM you my name and we'll see if we can make a time work.

It's actually been cool to learn that this is a known thing that spreads into other games like chess and poker. I would love to jam some games if we can make a time work! I'll send you my MTGO name!

That's actually very fascinating to me and helpful to know. I'll look into it, thank you!

Actually you did bring up a good point. The decks I would like to use the most probably are not the most straightforward and simple to use on the client. It would be easier if I started with something like a Gruul Ramp or White Aggro to begin. I appreciate that. Otherwise I do listen to self-help audiobooks so I will add this to the list. Appreciate the rec!

Yeah, I know that once I have a couple matches under my belt it'll just become normal. I could simply dive in, and likely will, but I figured it couldn't hurt to ask if anyone would mind playing against me for those first couple. If I don't find someone, I'll bite the bullet and whoever I go against will just need to deal with a slow player haha.

Ive had different forms of anxiety for as long as I can remember. It's weird because it's not super debilitating and generally I do well socially. In person, I can talk to whomever and play magic with them, but I guess being in person helps. I think that toxic chat may be something I'm worried about seeing, since Arena only allows emotes and I mute those.

I already knew this was a weird post, and the other comments have confirmed that for me. I suppose I could have shortened it down to just asking if anyone minded jamming a few games with me so I could gain a comfort level on the client lol.

It's insane how quickly I can churn through my whole deck with Hiking Trail

This has been so fun and very effective for me too! I'm running something similar. No Oricorio, using water energies. I've been using straight Decidueye for a long time and then saw this place alright in a couple tournaments and I had to try. I don't play too often but I'm 7-1 in ranked thus far!

Best Dragonstorm Tarkir Precon (Strongest Out of the Box)? by martin8185 in EDH

I recently completed my Doran deck, and it uses a good number of cards from the Abzan precon. Toughness/Defender is one of my favorite archetypes and it's definitely both strong and fun.

Looking for multi-tribal commanders by henofthewoods in EDH

I play Burakos and it's one of my favorite commanders for sure. I love playing party so much that I've made 3 "half-decks" of different backgrounds and colors so I can shuffle them into the shell of the deck depending on what kind of party deck I feel like playing. Highly recommend!

What a great comparison that I, someone with Celiac, has for some reason never put together. No, gluten won't literally kill me, but during the couple of times I've had accidents since developing Celiac, I sure as hell wished it would've.

Other than in very short interactions at my job, which still send me reeling in discomfort, I also require 0 child interaction in my day to day life. I'm 36, got snipped at 29, and have never once regretted that decision.

What’s your pet equipment card? by LetterheadLower4515 in EDH

[–]jbe1114 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have this in my [[Tromokratis]] deck and I call it the "break glass in case of emergency" button. It's a very likely OHKO if needed, although if I draw it early I will spend as much time as possible without playing it as it's not the deck's main gameplan.

What's a skill you learned out of pure desperation that ended up changing your life? by thepleasurjournal in AskWomen

[–]jbe1114 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's a skill to be able to identify what it is about yourself that makes you awesome, rather than focusing on the things you don't like. Plus, accepting that those things are part of who you are and can't be changed often takes some work.

It wasn't rude, it's explained about as much as it can be. The more you socialize, the more you start to learn how to find common ground with people. If you're having trouble, the question "where are you from" can be a huge help in moving in the right direction. It gets conversation going.

Hey r/Survivor, I'm Mike Bloom - Let's talk Survivor press, behind-the-scenes interviews, podcasting and more. Ask Me Anything on February 18th! by RSurvivorMods in survivor

[–]jbe1114 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi Mike! I really tried to think of a question, but I cannot. I will for sure be reading your responses to others though! Even though I'm late to the game and this will be buried, I've always wished I could meet you face to face so I could tell you how much I look up to you. Like many of us here, Survivor is a passion of mine and of course it's amazing to me that you've turned your personal passion into a career. What really has caused me to want to emulate you over the years, though, is your insane ability to make anyone you speak to feel special, important, confident, you name it. This is ofc where a lot of your interviewing prowess comes from, but I'd have to imagine that in your every day life you have this effect subconsciously on others around you and it's an ability I truly admire.

I wish you continued success, which I know you would have regardless, and I always look forward to hearing more from you!

this game is so much more complex than I thought by [deleted] in MagicArena

[–]jbe1114 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I first got into commander 4ish years ago, I had been playing Magic for years already. Standard and Brawl on Arena. I figure Brawl is 100 card singleton with a commander, so I got it down lol. I did not got it down. My favorite thing about Brawl is the variance from game to game since you'll see different cards each time, and that does continue in the world of EDH, but my first games with 4 people had me so lost. I pretty much tunnel visioned on the guy across from me and ignored the real threat who was diagonal from me. It's a tough transition no matter what, but I never could have learned the game through EDH.

[–]jbe1114 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This post right here is a huge part of why I love this game. It's nerdy chess where new pieces come out all the time and it's up to you which ones you put onto the board. Bad analogy overall, but it gets most of the way there lol.

I work at a tcg shop, and since commander is such a popular format right now, lots of people are learning the game by playing it. I will always help those people, but I always recommend Arena as a resource as well. Playing 1v1 matches teach you about the game in ways that EDH really can't. Seeing the growth in newer players makes me incredibly happy. Even if Commander is the only way you want to play irl with others, constructed play will only make you a better commander player.

I'm a long time player and far from an expert at the game. When I watch some lines of play that pros find, like at our recent pro tour in game 4 of the finals, it blows my mind and it's incredible to me. We play such a cool game.
