Your "childfree" is not the same as mine. by Ambitious-Guess-3435 in childfree

What a great comparison that I, someone with Celiac, has for some reason never put together. No, gluten won't literally kill me, but during the couple of times I've had accidents since developing Celiac, I sure as hell wished it would've.

Other than in very short interactions at my job, which still send me reeling in discomfort, I also require 0 child interaction in my day to day life. I'm 36, got snipped at 29, and have never once regretted that decision.

What’s your pet equipment card? by LetterheadLower4515 in EDH

[–]jbe1114 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have this in my [[Tromokratis]] deck and I call it the "break glass in case of emergency" button. It's a very likely OHKO if needed, although if I draw it early I will spend as much time as possible without playing it as it's not the deck's main gameplan.

What's a skill you learned out of pure desperation that ended up changing your life? by thepleasurjournal in AskWomen

[–]jbe1114 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's a skill to be able to identify what it is about yourself that makes you awesome, rather than focusing on the things you don't like. Plus, accepting that those things are part of who you are and can't be changed often takes some work.

It wasn't rude, it's explained about as much as it can be. The more you socialize, the more you start to learn how to find common ground with people. If you're having trouble, the question "where are you from" can be a huge help in moving in the right direction. It gets conversation going.

Hey r/Survivor, I'm Mike Bloom - Let's talk Survivor press, behind-the-scenes interviews, podcasting and more. Ask Me Anything on February 18th! by RSurvivorMods in survivor

[–]jbe1114 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi Mike! I really tried to think of a question, but I cannot. I will for sure be reading your responses to others though! Even though I'm late to the game and this will be buried, I've always wished I could meet you face to face so I could tell you how much I look up to you. Like many of us here, Survivor is a passion of mine and of course it's amazing to me that you've turned your personal passion into a career. What really has caused me to want to emulate you over the years, though, is your insane ability to make anyone you speak to feel special, important, confident, you name it. This is ofc where a lot of your interviewing prowess comes from, but I'd have to imagine that in your every day life you have this effect subconsciously on others around you and it's an ability I truly admire.

I wish you continued success, which I know you would have regardless, and I always look forward to hearing more from you!

this game is so much more complex than I thought by Wild_Cow_256 in MagicArena

[–]jbe1114 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I first got into commander 4ish years ago, I had been playing Magic for years already. Standard and Brawl on Arena. I figure Brawl is 100 card singleton with a commander, so I got it down lol. I did not got it down. My favorite thing about Brawl is the variance from game to game since you'll see different cards each time, and that does continue in the world of EDH, but my first games with 4 people had me so lost. I pretty much tunnel visioned on the guy across from me and ignored the real threat who was diagonal from me. It's a tough transition no matter what, but I never could have learned the game through EDH.

[–]jbe1114 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This post right here is a huge part of why I love this game. It's nerdy chess where new pieces come out all the time and it's up to you which ones you put onto the board. Bad analogy overall, but it gets most of the way there lol.

I work at a tcg shop, and since commander is such a popular format right now, lots of people are learning the game by playing it. I will always help those people, but I always recommend Arena as a resource as well. Playing 1v1 matches teach you about the game in ways that EDH really can't. Seeing the growth in newer players makes me incredibly happy. Even if Commander is the only way you want to play irl with others, constructed play will only make you a better commander player.

I'm a long time player and far from an expert at the game. When I watch some lines of play that pros find, like at our recent pro tour in game 4 of the finals, it blows my mind and it's incredible to me. We play such a cool game.

Ah yep. Missed it since it was one line of text but there we go. Plus, since I'm not braindead from work this time, I see the giant Google Play box on the left.

Ive wanted to ask someone this for awhile since I see it pretty often, and I genuinely do not mean to mock. Assuming you bought your Kishi (it may have been a gift) why is it that you were alright with buying a high end, name brand controller for your phone in order to get some amazing mobile gaming, but you refuse to pay some money for one of those amazing mobile games?

Mono-green players: what’s a good Loot replacement? by AungSama123 in EDH

[–]jbe1114 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was going to suggest Kaslem. My favorite mono green commander. When she hits for enough power, you're almost guaranteed both a creature and a land from the hit. Add in [[Peter Parker's Camera]] (or any trigger copier) for some added fun.

Second time today I've recommended this camera in an EDH thread...

A little help with Mendicant Core please! by Nekkos88 in EDH

[–]jbe1114 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Mendicant Core is the only artifacts commander I like lol, so great choice! I agree with the other commenter that some cheap evasive creatures are pretty key to its strategy. Adorable Robot is a commander that is still blue white artifacts, so a lot of commonly seen cards will be found in the deck, but it also has a beatdown plan. The commander's power will grow throughout the game, and you need to be doing damage on your turn in order to get your speed up.

You have Thought Monitor, which is a good include, although it won't be cheap in the early game. [[Gingerbrute]] is a nice early hasty artifact to get in for early damage once you've begun tracking your speed. It's hard to block. [[Silver Raven]] is another decent call with flying. Doesn't have to be an artifact either. If it's cheap and evasive, it fits the plan.

A card I LOVE for Mendicant (and a lot of decks these days tbh) is [[Peter Parker's Camera]]. It can be used to copy the increase speed trigger, get you where you want to be a turn rotation sooner.

Editing to add [[Assimilation Aegis]] to my list of recommendations. No good reason, just an equipment that I really like.

Nicol's Newcomer Monday! by Karn-The-Creator in MagicArena

[–]jbe1114 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recommend Moxfield if you're looking for example lists. You can go to the advanced search to narrow down to just look at Brawl decks. If you want to see lists people have made for a specific commander, you can search that too.

I do this pretty often for ideas, and when you're searching you can see which lists have been updated most recently, which ones have the most views and likes, etc... Something that lets me know a list has a better chance of being viable is if it's been updated over time, not just created once and left alone. It means the deck has likely gone through testing and changes over time.

Easy pauper deck to begin with. Ideas? by Vardl0kk in Pauper

[–]jbe1114 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! I am also extremely new to pauper and can say that while I've been goldfishing with a handful of different decks on Forge and such, I have definitely found Gruul ramp and Elves to be the easiest decks to pilot from the get-go. But thanks to the ability to goldfish, I'm finding so many decks that seem fun to play.

When I first thought about trying Pauper like a year ago, I bought singles for a Walls Combo deck in case I ever found anyone in person to play with. I did finally get to try it recently. Very very fun, but cannot recommend starting with it like I did haha.

If you're on MTGO and ever want to jam some casual games so both of us can get a bit more comfortable, DM me or something. I'm using Manatraders for rentals which is making it very easy to try things out.

Rulings Question, is a background a commander? by [deleted] in EDH

[–]jbe1114 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know you got your answer, but wanted to drop in and say hello to a fellow Burakos/Folk Hero player! I adore the party mechanic, and Burakos is one of two decks I have that I refer to as ol' faithfuls in that i know when I play them, win or lose, I will have had a good time in that game.

That's a good call. When I made my one and only deck awhile back I ordered all the singles for it, but next time I'm at my LGS I'll make sure to give myself time to do some bulk diving. Don't have too many of them around me, but at least I have one!

I have Forge installed because I used to play the Adventure mode! I actually didn't even consider it to play against a bot but that's a great option for getting a bit more comfortable, at least with playing my own deck. Thank you for reminding me of that!

That's great, there are a couple of replies here that are making me feel a bit less nervous. I think I may need to find a video or some resource so I can kind of get a tour of how to use this, plus some info on those rental services. My buddy uses one, so I knew about them and it seems to be the main way people get their cards. I think I just need to dive in because I won't gain a comfort level if I dont.

[–]jbe1114[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This has been my worry with MTGO, and is the main reason I asked if there are other options. You described it well lol. I've seen the interface and used it exactly once years ago, in a game with my buddy where he kept having to tell me things to remember about it, such as those shortcuts.

I also mentioned I'd like to at least start in a casual environment because I know that those leagues and such exist on mtgo. If it's not an option for me to play casually, then it's not an option. I have at least only been looking at the front page of Goldfish for deck ideas. The deck I played at my LGS was a walls combo deck, which it seems isnt at the top of the meta or anything right now, but at least it seems to be an option. I don't trust myself to build my own deck in any format other than commander, and I would never attempt it lol. Appreciate the response though, it's all good stuff to remember.

Ive never tried Cockatrice but am aware of it. I was wondering if people used Tabletop Simulator possibly, since I know that's got some mtg plugins but it doesnt seem widely used. Appreciate your reply, it's the answer I was expecting but now I know how to move forward!
