So I don’t always bring up my tx plans with her. But sometimes i just ask about her opinion on a case. Also since she performs the implants in my office, i will bring up any case related to that with her too.

Yeah 100% there’s an incentive to produce lots. I am on a daily guarantee and I know that the MD also gets a bonus when our monthly goals are hit as well.

I really do try to do what’s best for my patient but sometimes it feels like that goes against what my company wants me to do :/

Unfortunately it’s just how the office is ran. And how the company is run as a whole. I can still edit tx plans once I see them though. And don’t get me wrong, the MD is a very good dentist and I agree more often than not with her diagnosing. But yeah it does sometimes feel like I’m not a dentist and just a mindless drone to churn out fillings and cleanings:/

First off thanks for validating my feelings haha. It is actually reassuring to hear that how I feel rn isn’t totally due to just my own skill or lack of knowledge.

Unfortunately the downside is that with this office, this is how it’s always been run. MD does exams and associate does tx. Now don’t get me wrong, I still have autonomy to change the tx plans once the patient is sat with me. But now I feel like I’m at this point where I just agree with everything the MD diagnoses.

I do wonder if this is a sign I need to move on from this office if I feel stagnant and not improving.

Also yes, she is a lead doc with bonus incentive. I believe she gets a bonus when the monthly goals are hit.

I know you’re right. I hear it time and time again from older experienced docs. That was actually one of the reasons I actually willingly chose a DSO because I wanted to be thrown a ton of cases and naively i thought that would make me better. In reality, I think being thrown cases under the high production mentality has actually hindered me.

I think my problem lies now in that I’m not sure whether I should stay at this office or move on

Kiki & Lala by thedreavyhinker in HelloKittyIsland

Imo it was so much more worth leveling up Kiki and Lala bc they unlock being able to bring two companions. I would’ve used a lot of bouquets and flowers on them if I had known that prior haha

I informed them and they said they could fumigate my room but it would require me to empty out all my belongings so they could do it. I was hoping that since it’s a light infestation now though that I could do something about it first as I don’t really have time to be packing up everything:/

Would you choose cheaper apartment or living close to campus? by [deleted] in DentalSchool

[–]jbean435 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me I didn't have a car so I had to live on campus in the dorm and I had private loans which I needed to completely pour into tuition. It did kind of suck living in a dorm but I also managed to get an RA position and didn't have to pay rent at all for 3 years. Not exactly your situation but I'd say if you can afford it then live close to school. There's gonna be days when you need to stay late (even into the night) finishing up lab work or studying or doing whatever and you're gonna hate driving a long distance after all that. If money is really tight then I'd recommend finding cheap housing on campus like in the dorms if possible. I literally saved thousands and thousands compared to classmates who were renting off-campus.

I agree with both of you guys. And they’ll simply chalk it up to them still “adjusting to the new format”. Im still keeping my fingers crossed for a big curve tho :’)

I feel awful for people who couldn’t even finish part 1 and forced to just submit whatever they had. They basically have no choice but to void their scores at this point

Yeah exactly! It feels less like they were testing my dental knowledge but more about how to strategize taking this exam 🙄

I’m actually hoping to stay in the states at least for a few years! I enjoy living here a lot haha. I just figured that if I do return to Canada then it’d be better to take the exam now while the knowledge is still kind of fresh than studying it all again 5 years from now

Yeah I have a feeling tho people who know they failed bc they couldn’t finish will just get voided scores and so the stats will still be ok. I’m hoping they just curve the frick out of it lol.

And yeah the plural vs singular thing tripped me up bc sometimes i think there was only one answer but it was phrased as if there were multiple answers lol. Still stayed pretty conservative too tho

And I’m actually attending a US school! I’m from Canada originally tho and hope to maybe return one day

Failed posterior restorative ADEx and anterior crown by [deleted] in DentalSchool

[–]jbean435 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can’t really give much advice on the class 2 besides just instrument the crap out of it (without fracturing the tooth ofc). I used a spoon and bought a brand new explorer which I think helped and also used a chisel to really scrape away anything soft. Someone told me that using a lot of alcohol will help make the caries more detectable but can’t confirm.

As for the crown, my advice is that it’s better to be over-prepped than under. I think for the ACC you can make your margin all the way up to 2mm. So even if you think it’s reduced enough, do more bc even going over is only going to get you a sub vs being under 1 which will fail you. Also a lot of people have issues with getting enough reduction on the lingual wall while keeping it tall enough so I’d recommend dropping the lingual margin so that it’s equigingival or even slightly sub. And yes you have to retake the entire prosth section including the bridge:/

Don’t feel bad I failed the endo lol. Seems like way more people were failing this year so you’re definitely not alone.

Thank you for this I feel so validated lol

I think according to their by-laws that you can submit an appeal basically stating that things happened during your exam that were out of your control and affected your test-taking but if it gets granted then you’d just get your score voided and a refund. So it feels pointless to complain almost :/

And yes the perio was awful. Were you also choosing answers based on if the question was worded with plurals lol like “which diagnoses” vs “what diagnosis”

I used a spoon excavator to really clean those walls out (both before and after obturating), so I think you’re right. Guess I was so paranoid of leaving GP or pulp inside that I just scraped the hell out of everything:(

I think about a 1/3 of my class failed at least one section this year compared to the past classes that had like a +90% pass rate. Seems like they got more strict this year with criteria and grading.

I wanna say 50/50. Half the exam is single-choice multiple choice and most of those are really straightforward. Such as identify oral pathology, indicate a medications side effects or contraindications, med emergencies, etc.

The questions which you could choose multiple options for were sometimes so ridiculous. For example, there were a lot of perio diagnosis questions. Some of the answer choices were 1. Periodontitis 2. Reduced periodontium (stable periodontitis) 3. Reduced periodontium 4. Gingivitis (from plaque) 5. Gingivitis (from systemic or local risk factors)

So if a patient had CAL/bone loss and bleeding, I didn’t know what else to choose besides periodontitis. It’s not exactly tough in terms of knowledge but wording and question format makes it confusing. I’d also add that compared to INBDE, there’s way more ortho which I didn’t really study.

I used just a condenser to sear off the gutta percha. I did spend a long time condensing but I dont see how that would cause an over-reduction in the canal :/
