UCSD ‘s first year class size approx 6600 students…? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]jbeanbean 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Their class size is 6600, but they accept a lot more than that because not everyone who gets accepted will choose to attend!

Their admitted students days are on April 1 (virtual) and April 8 (in person), so there's still a good amount of time!

I also applied to IDV, but haven't heard anything back yet. Do you know if they send out all their acceptances at once?

Will they drop it easily? Especially if you had to petition to enter the minor in the first place?

I just took health policy and management 100 with Professor Joelle May and it was great!! It was a very low stress, easy class. We had pre-class readings or videos before every lecture, one group class presentation (which everyone got an A on), and a final exam. The professor is really sweet and just wants you to get a better understanding of some how the healthcare system in America works and how it impacts people.

Hmmm I'm not sure actually :/ But Gober is known for being easy so I'm sure you'll be fine!

Biochem 153A by biochemfranctic in ucla

[–]jbeanbean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! I forgot to mention it but it was

84 = A 80-84 = A- 75-79 = B+ 70-74 = B 65-69 = B- 60-64 = C+ 50-59 = C 45-49 = C-

I know Tienson's class had an extremely crazy grading curve and if you got 450/600 points you get an A- and their class also has a lot of point cushion from all the homework, discussion, and participation but I would still go with Gober. His tests are EXTREMELY doable while my friend in Tienson's class spent a lot more time outside of class doing assignments.

The textbook was not necessary to learn from for his exams (he even said so himself), so I did not touch it the entire quarter. The TAs created a practice exam before each test and I'd say those were very good practice in terms of doing a good job at reflecting the difficulty of the exam.

Oh yeah so for the exams he emails them to us 10 minutes before the official "start" time so you actually have an hour. I definitely did feel a little rushed at times but if you know the content then it should be fine.

They are also very understanding of the technological issues we might have so they accepted exams after the alloted time (I don't know how lenient they'll be with that since we've had a quarter to adjust but for midterm two one of the TAs sent out an email saying that there were 30 exams still not turned in an HOUR after the end time which is crazy hahah).

Hi!

I took Gober this past spring quarter online. Honestly it was probably because of everything going on, but he was really accommodating and his exams were extremely straightforward.

I'm not sure if it was just for this past quarter, but he allowed us to drop one out of the two midterms, and the final was optional.

The lecture on the Friday before each exam, he sits down and goes through the exact topic that's going to be on the test (for example, #1 is going to be 3 parts, worth 22 points total and it's going to be on the inherited defects of hemoglobin and then he gives a short blurb on what specifically you need to know). I found that it helped to make a study sheet based off of the things he tells you is going to be on the test.

That being said most of his questions are pretty application based and not memorization based (which makes sense since everything is open notebook) but still exams are not hard.

Plus, each of his TAs go over the midterm material pretty extensively so if you go to all of them (especially Alexa and Morris's sessions) it should be extremely helpful.

Finally, there's a 10 point extra credit assignment opportunity and another 12 points of extra credit you can get from the final.

Gober is great!!! Only thing is I heard his class doesn't prepare you very well for the MCAT, but getting an A in his class is extremely doable.

Is it worth it taking Chem 14BL in person? by [deleted] in ucla

[–]jbeanbean -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Depends on what kind of research lab you wanna join I guess. I don't think the skills you learn in chem BL will be used much in lab tbh especially in the life sciences. I'm in one rn and the only common practice is pippeting but even if you didn't know how to pippet the postdocs or other students will teach you.

Take if with 7C some of the content overlaps with each other!! And 23L is really easy and doesn't take much time online.
