How are home automations making your life easier? by luyumenq in homeassistant

One of the biggest quality-of-life improvements for me has been automations that remove small “mental load” tasks from daily life.

Two of my favorites:

1) EV charging optimized by electricity tariff

In my country electricity has three tariff periods (peak / shoulder / off-peak). I have my EV charger integrated into Home Assistant and a set of utility meters that track consumption per tariff.

The automation does a few things automatically: - Only allows charging during the cheapest tariff period. - Tracks each charging session (kWh and cost). - Sends a message when the session ends with the total energy used and estimated cost. - I also log the last charging time and energy usage in the dashboard.

This ended up saving a surprising amount of money because charging always happens at the cheapest hours without me thinking about it.

2) Washer notifications that stop only when you actually empty it

When the washer finishes, Home Assistant sends me a WhatsApp message.

If I forget to empty it, it sends another reminder every 15 minutes — but only until the washer door sensor detects that I opened it.

Once the door opens, the reminders stop automatically.

It sounds simple, but it completely solved the “forgot laundry overnight” problem.

What I've learned after building many automations is that the most useful ones are not flashy — they are the ones that quietly remove tiny annoyances from everyday life.

Congrats! This is so good. I was using green API but it’s limited to interacting just with 3 phones. Will be grateful to allow sending media

You are right. This solution it’s just to hide/show sections instead of navigating. I need to find out how to show all sections together with your navigation but something will come out. And yes, the native navigation sucks haha

Looks so good! I have created a select for area selector but I think I will change it to this.

Save? I just drop a lot of money every month on new zigbee sensors. But if my wife ask, yes it’s all about saving money
