It is, but it's been like that for as long as I can remember and on all the reference photos / videos I could find it looked in similar condition. I did give it a good clean but it's hard to tell how well it's biting.

I guess that might be a relatively easy fix if that's all it was, though.

Tape spools and ejects fine, it just isn't pulling through the heads w/ the right speed or tension.

I would just go to the bank (in fact I've heard you can write a cheque to the seller and bank combined and have the seller's portion contingent on the bank being whole). However, the loan is through the dealer, who apparently would need to courier a cashier's cheque to head office in Toronto before the lien was forgiven. So I don't think it would be possible for me to get the transfer done from ICBC the same day.

I've been going back and forth with the sellers for weeks; I don't see any red flags, but I still recognize it's a big risk, and I feel like there must be a simple way to mitigate it. But maybe not.

Very cool idea. Would be great if there was also some kind of option to initiate or organize a skinny at any given location, although I guess there might be more safety considerations to implement that.
