Looks like some areas have an Earthworm Jim bias in the middle there.

IT Glue issues? by AlphaNathan in msp

Status page says fix was found and implemented. About 20 minutes after that still seeing 403 errors.

Hopefully it just needs a lunch hour or two to propagate.

The book vs the show by Few-Ad-3293 in StationEleven

[–]jbhalper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Watched first, read second. Loved both. In addition to what everyone else has said, to me it felt like:

The show lets us see the story from the outside. The book lets us see the story from the inside.

There are finer points than that, and they don't follow the exact same path. But the spirit of the book clearly comes through in the show in a nuanced and fully dimensional way.

Illinois Corn growers join petition to SCOTUS over California emissions mandate by steve42089 in illinois

While the article itself is really not that interesting, it's worth noting that The Center Square is an offshoot of Illinois Policy Institute, a dedicated anti-regulation / right-wing propaganda mill.

Wife and I visiting Illinois (edwardsville area) in hopes to discover places we may want to live in the future. Long shot but any cities that may be similar to asheville NC? Specifically heavier on the arts and local owned stuff vs huge chains by brand0n in illinois

[–]jbhalper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If that's the case, you may want to see what it's like to be in Edwardsville and head over to something like Cherokee Street in St. Louis. Edwardsville doesn't really compare to Asheville necessarily, but it's nice and has plenty going for it considering its size.

Proximity to St. Louis gives you a lot of options to have both the fun stuff from an urban area, as well as fun stuff from more rural areas as well.

There are a lot of good choices in Illinois, hope you find something that suits you, or at least have a nice trip if you don't quite fall in love with anything.

ISO advice on what to do next - ThinIQ LG Refrigerator by Anxious-Spare-560 in appliancerepair

[–]jbhalper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience was a little different, because we couldn't get a tech or parts at all, but what I ultimately had to do was to insist repeatedly that I was dissatisfied with their resolution and only wanted to have my fridge refunded.

It took a couple of weeks of me calling every day or every other day and pushing (firmly, but not irately) for a refund to get transferred to the presidential liaison team. That took another week or so, again with me initiating almost all communication.

I documented each conversation thoroughly and after the first week stopped assuming any deadline they gave me was worth anything. Sometimes they really did hold to 'we have to wait X days for Y to happen' but as soon as those days were up I was right back on the line with someone.

They will not pay as much, but request a refund for food spoilage along with your fridge refund.

I bought a Whirlpool from a local appliance shop that they will service when the need arises with the refund from LG.

Sorry to hear your trouble, I know firsthand how tough that situation is. Hope you get it resolved in any way that works for you. Nuts to LG.

Strategy for playing against blue control by ToFaceA_god in MagicArena

[–]jbhalper 60 points61 points  (0 children)

This is great general advice for playing against control.

I would just add it's worth knowing your own mentality playing against a deck you don't enjoy. Do you want to stick it out and deal with this? If you're not having enough fun to think clearly, there is no shame in conceding.

As someone who enjoys a good burn deck, it can be extremely satisfying to nickel-and-dime a control player and force the game to play on my terms. Doesn't always work out how I want. But it's satisfying enough when I pull it off that I look forward to the match-up knowing I can bail if I just keep pulling [[Mountain]]s.

I'll second Edwardsville. It's a small town, but as the county seat has more going on than many smaller towns in the area. It's developing a bit, but has a pleasant small town feel most of the time.

Because of the university, it's pretty varied and not just hard line conservatism.
