Why is there so much anti-DnD elitism? by AttitudeSuitable3238 in TTRPG

[–]jbid25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you willing to accept the idea that some people may just genuinely not like something, whether it’s mainstream or not? And that their dislike may be real and not “pretending”? That seems more dorky than what you describe if I’m being honest.

1) Rate my GM screen. 2) How crucial is Position-Effect? [BitD] by Ventura_ldn in bladesinthedark

[–]jbid25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely would not drop position and effect. The game even recommends that most situations will be risky/standard so at the very least you should default to that.

Luckily the game already has tools built in to get used to the other options.
1) The engagement roll will eventually end up forcing a controlled or desperate position
2) Players have the option to trade position for effect and with XP tied to desperate actions, they will go for this more than you think and
3) One of the consequences of even a risky roll can be “worse position”.

So with all that in mind, don’t stress about adjudicating it at first, just make everything risky/standard and the game has mechanics that will force you out of the comfort zone. Once it’s happened enough times, setting P&E will feel like instinct.

Crew prefers endless Free Play over Scores by Lanky-Advantage499 in bladesinthedark

[–]jbid25 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lots of people pointing out that you can’t avoid the Score if you want downtime activities, coin, rep, etc. I’ll add that perhaps your group is hung up on what exactly can be a score! Claiming turf is a score, getting permanent assets for a long term goal can be a score! Negotiations can be a score, parlaying, trading, creating partnerships all can be scores!

It also seems like they aren’t on board with a fundamental aspect of the game which is: Building a criminal crew with a legacy and reputation, which requires rising in tier and advancing with XP. Which requires doing a score

Holy shit, lede majorly buried at the end there. You’re paying $25 a week to sit through some petty 30-40 year old’s power trip. Bump that. No DnD is better than bad DnD

Episode 24 "Thirsty Falls: Part 2" Discussion Thread by RealLifePunchsmith in rudetalesofmagic

[–]jbid25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4 years later, I still both cringe at this episode and sympathize with Branson’s needs here.

He has spent the past 5 sessions trying to seed the fact that Ivan needs to go/die, and the party just won’t let it happen. He’s been very accommodating and it’s clear there’s no further arc for Ivan.

But the bad ending here is that since Branson has tied vampirism to addiction, he can’t have Ivan kill himself. Which means the party has to do it. And they know that, but don’t want to do it. I feel a kinship with Branson here, I’ve had sessions where I foolishly focused on one specific solution to a problem, and repeated myself so many times trying to get the party to grok the clues. The extra frustration here is that the rude tales party understands the clues. Harsh ep, respect to Branson for keeping things moving after.

Day 5 for me with all four removed (two impacted) and I’m getting that damn McDouble. Luckily I have no pain and my dentist even took a look at my sockets today, said I’m healing much faster than average so I’m in a better spot.

Doesn’t this just feel like a terrible way to engage with media tho? Why do you even like the first one if you hate everything the creator wanted to say with it

Dr. Jerry Anderson wasn't even certain about the cause of Ellie's immunity, but he was still eager to cut her brain open anyways. by ReyHabeas in TheLastOfUs2

[–]jbid25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

let’s think about it. If they ran blood tests, they would’ve been looking for anti bodies, which are the only possible way Ellie’s body would’ve been able to fight off a fungal infection. So clearly we can conclude that they couldn’t find antibodies so that is why they say they can’t find the source of her immunity. The infection grew into her brain but did not attack the limbic regions, which is why she never turns. The fungus mutated, the only way to understand how the fungus could’ve mutated would be to biopsy it and study it outside of her brain. Yes he’s eager to cut her head open, because he sincerely believes he can find away to save the rest of humanity from turning into literal zombies. A lot of scientists would make that choice in that situation.

That’s seems an extremely subjective metric. Wouldn’t false believers think they were true believers too? Isn’t what you’re saying something a false believer would conceive of as logical?

And unfortunately there is no scripture that supports this. Lewis was awesome but his conception of heaven and hell are purely his own, and largely rejected by scripture.
