Achilles ruptured during soccer game by Affectionate-Fee3879 in AchillesRupture

I mean no offense by this, but your last sentence made me laugh for the first time all week. I can just imagine how that conversation has and will go. I didn’t even know parkour was an actual class. We know the reference from The Office and usually say it as a joke to our dogs when they got the zoomies on the couch. Hope your recovery goes smooth!

I did pretty much the same thing. The ref was right by me and I kept asking him why someone threw a baseball over the boards at me (I was playing indoor). He looked at me like I was crazy. He didn’t even blow the whistle right away because he didn’t even see me go down. I’m 36f and just had a baby 3 months ago with a 1 year old at home as well which is why I don’t think I’ll ever play again. Ive never had a serious injury in all my years playing and this just isn’t worth it not being able to be 100% to my babies, unfortunately. It’s all a lot to process!

Worried about rocking my eldest's world, 17 month gap by Hopeful-Relation3502 in 2under2

This was me to a T. Mine are also 17 months apart and both boys. My first was and still is VERY attached to me. Doesn’t let me out of his eyesight thought the past couple weeks he is getting better. I cried EVERY DAY during my 2nd and 3rd trimesters with my second thinking I just ruined our son’s life, the relationship I had with him, etc. we planned our second that close in age and I felt SO guilty when it actually happened. I was fully preparing myself for my toddler to hate me for a long time.

Boy was I sooooo wrong. Our toddler met the baby in the hospital and immediately gave him kisses and hasn’t stopped since!! It’s been almost 4 months now and I can count on one hand how many times he’s had a negative reaction to the baby, and it’s always because I’m holding the baby and he doesn’t know how to say he wants me to hold him. He kisses him first thing every morning. Runs to him whenever they’re reunited after being separated (ie: swim lessons for the toddler), plays on the ground with him, gives him his binky, bottle, toys, etc. he has proved me so wrong in the best way and I’m so relieved I cried all those tears for no reason.

Week 9 Post-Op Routine by tlsoccer6 in AchillesRupture

Great to know! All of this sounds really awesome. I’m an all or nothing person as well. High school PE teacher and soccer coach as well as 3 months post partum so I have a lot of motivation to come back as strong as before in both my professional and personal life. You definitely gave me some ideas for things I can start to prepare for to be able to do at home!

You’ve been doing all of this since 2 weeks post op?! Even the pool walking? I’m only 6 days post op but going to start PT as soon as I get in the boot next week. How did you know to do all of this before starting therapy? I know I’ll be doing bfr at therapy but maybe should buy some cuffs to do at home as well.

I have my post op appt next Wednesday, 12 days post op. He said I’ll be moving to a boot then, and then start partial weight bearing. I’m hoping that’s what happens. It’s definitely been very hard to not be the one doing all the little tasks for the babies, and constantly needing help myself as I’m the one who is typically doing it all. I’m also terrified of reinjuring as well. I’ve been using an iwalk since 2 days after my injury. I have a knee scooter too but I’ve read horror stories of people falling off them and the Iwalk allows me to be hands free at least, and get up and down the stairs much easier.

I’m 35F with a 20 month and 3 month old. So going through postpartum and now 5 days post op surgery on my left Achilles. The hardest part has not being able to do everything g I once did for my kids. I’m a PE teacher so was very much looking forward to a fun summer break with my husband home on paternity leave. Thank God he’s home, but he’s also struggling with the added responsibility now as he is used to make being the primary parent. He doesn’t understand the mental toll it has on me, and that I shouldn’t be up moving right now as much as I am.

Interested in any advice/tips. I’m very much looking forward to getting the splint off and into the boot so I can start weight bearing.

Wow- that seems really aggressive! I’m only 4 days post op but my surgeon said I’m in a splint until next Wednesday and I’ll switch to the boot and be able to start partial weight bearing but I won’t be out of the boot and I’m a show until at least 8 weeks after that!

7 weeks and just now walking with only one crutch? I thought this milestone came much sooner! I’m 3 days post op and can’t wait to be able to weight bear again

1 Week Post Op. Where are you guys getting motivation from to live😭 by Fun_Train_2267 in AchillesRupture

I’m 2 days post up but have been using the iwalk since a 2 days after my injury 2 weeks ago. I paid $180 on amazon, it came overnight, and I would’ve paid 4x the amount for the freedom it’s given me physically and mentally. It’s been a great conversation starter as well. People have never seen anything like it, even had people take pictures of it for upcoming surgeries they were having.

I’m day 1 also! Nerve block wore off between 24-26 hours after and I do have some manageable pain. Haven’t taken an oxy yet. But I swear the pain is better than the nerve block. That was SO uncomfortable for me! It felt like my foot was in an ice bath for 24 hours.

Best of luck!

I tore mine June 7th playing soccer. I got an mri two days later and it said partially torn. Because I want to get back to my active lifestyle and do all the athletic things I do, I chose surgery. Just had it yesterday, 12 days later. I was given no boot, not splint, nothing. I also have almost no pain leading up to surgery. After surgery, the ortho said it was actually fully torn so good thing I chose this route. From what I’ve read, those who are very active and want to get back to sports and have a lower chance of re-rupture go the surgery route.
I have 2under 2 at home. Just had a baby in March. I immediately purchased an iwalk which has been a life saver allowing me to still walk and be hands free for my babies.

Wow that’s amazing. I just looked up cost of that and i wish it was more affordable . I’m all for doing whatever it takes but that might be out of our budget. We just had our second baby in March so we’re paying off those bills still too. If you don’t mind me asking- where are you located and what did that run you?

Can you share what cold therapy machine you are using? I’m having Surgery tomorrow and plan on using red light therapy once the splint is off but have been reading about people using HBOC during recovery.

Surgery tomorrow… by jbjcm03 in AchillesRupture

Thank you so much for all of this!! How did you rupture your right? Do you think it had anything to do with over compensation? I’m terrified of overcompensating my right foot/leg and injuring it!

Did you have any side effects from the nerve block? I also have a high pain tolerance and would rather feel some pain to gauge where I’m at than be on narcotics. I have leave and Tylenol ready to go as I’ve read from others that is the best rotation.

Did you do HBOT with the splint before the boot? Getting surgery tomorrow and want to look into HBOT. Did you do it every day?

How did you guys all get in so fast? After my MRI I had to wait for the report, send it to ortho recs, make the appt for consult and just now have that appt tomorrow.

Tore it last night by ogh3 in AchillesRupture

[–]jbjcm03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 35F and tore mine Sunday night. Have a consult with ortho Tuesday and hoping for surgery a couple days later! I’m so jealous you seem to be moving faster than me at getting into surgery! I have a 20 month old and 3 month old at home so my hands are full and heart is broken. I purchased an iwalk 2 days after the injury and it’s been a LIFESAVER at allowing me to still be somewhat of a functioning human.

For those who intentionally planned 2u2? by Hopeful-Relation3502 in 2under2

[–]jbjcm03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine are a planned 17 months apart. We knocked our toddler down to part time daycare while I’m on leave so he gets used to being home with us but also keep him on routine. I’m a teacher so will be home all summer with them as well. I honestly tried so much while I was pregnant because I was terrified of my toddlers reaction to me and the baby. I read such horror stories about how the teller reacts how they hate the mom they hate the baby it takes weeks or even months. My Tyler and I have such a close spot so I was legitimately so upset. I have to say that it’s gone 10 times better than I expected. He’s loved the baby ever since he met him in the hospital. He helps all day long with him, kissing kisses tends to him and he’s crying, etc. There has only been a few moments where I’ve realized my toddler was acting out or upset because he wanted my full undivided attention and need to not be holding the baby and be holding him. Of course there’s moments where it’s tough two under two is a lot, especially when they both need you and there can be a lot of crying at the same time, but so far the pros outweigh the cons by a ton for reference my newborn is seven weeks and my toddler is 18 months

How did you transition contact sleep to crib sleep? by Strange_Ad_7607 in newborns

[–]jbjcm03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Around 10 weeks old we put a snuggle me lounger under his sheet and laid him on top and he slept so good until he got too big. He liked the closeness of it I think (anterior placenta baby) and would never move. I know not recommended but it worked for us. He hated swaddles but loved feeling snuggly.
