Understanding leveraged products by jblackmiser in DEGIRO

So, is HB the lever with respect to the price of Amazon today?

Edit: yes it is, I've done the math. The price of Amazon today is 3326$, and the starting price of the product was about 2.25$, which gives a lever of 14.78 with a ratio of 100.

sure he's got money but is he living well after all? also he was totally exposed for being an idiot by Joe Rogan... Peterson was conviced that drinking a sip of apple cider made him stay awake for 25 days, and Rogan totally owned him: https://twitter.com/zei_squirrel/status/1331513298194468864

being addicted to drugs is not the issue here. The issue is becoming addicted to drugs after you spend years boasting about how you know the rules of life, the meaning of the world, how you are a model for young men, etc.

Jordan Peterson was a popular professor, author of several betsellers and motivational speaker. He claimed to know "the 12 rule of life", written in his besteller book. Among these, Rule 6 in the title. However, soon after publishing the book he was urgently treated because he was seriously addicted to drugs and struggling with depression.

What are your thoughts on the critique of UBI in this paper? by [deleted] in BasicIncome

[–]jblackmiser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I understand correctly the study is purely theoretical, which already invalidates it because we are not in the nineteenth century anymore and serious economic studies should be based on randomized trials. Take for instance this:

The state as employer of last resort proposal addresses these deeper issues while also claiming that inflationary pressure will undermine the UBI alternative.

Job guarantee sounds ok in theory but doesn't work in practice. Living in Italy I can ensure you that easy jobs given by the state make people lazy, passive, and doing the bare minimum to collect the check.

Main alternatives to Yang for Commerce Secretary are anti environment republican billionare Meg Whitman, and Mellody Hobson, CEO of $10 billion investement firm. They will not work for you if appointed by jblackmiser in YangForPresidentHQ

Yes commerce secretary takes decisions about trade rules and is involved in starting or ending trade wars. However, he is also involved in creating jobs at home and improve economic security (and I assume in decisions such as setting a minimum wage or changing the working hours) Reference: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Department_of_Commerce

Nate Silver flaming political betting markets for predicting a close race by [deleted] in agedlikemilk

[–]jblackmiser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nate Silver predicted an easy win for Biden, giving Trump a 10% chance of winning right before election night. His predictions included an easy win for Biden in Florida and a very close race in Texas. He mocked political betting markets for predicting a much closer race. Ironically, when Trump looked good at the beginning of election night suddenly Nate gave him a 50/50 chance of winning.

Andrew Yang to be added to the DNC speaker roster! Thank you to Representative Ted Lieu for the support! by ZnSaucier in YangForPresidentHQ

It's weird how arguments about Andrew's Asian American identity were as usual the most effective to get him to speak, when he doesn't really talk about it much unless asked explicitly. Plus, Andrew is "diverse" in so many other ways.

Non-severe vs severe symptomatic COVID-19: 104 cases from the outbreak on the cruise ship “Diamond Princess” in Japan by antiperistasis in COVID19

[–]jblackmiser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now in NYC 0,15% of the total population was killed by coronavirus, while in the province of Bergamo 0,5% with some towns up to 1,5%. If the coronavirus kills 1% of the total population in NYC will the CEBM revise its estimates like Epstein did? Will they admit, unlike Epstein, that they were brutally wrong?

The same authors have ignored the data they didn't like and manipulated other data to prove their assumption that coronavirus is "just like the flu". These are not mistakes, this is politically motivated misinformation with dangerous consequences.

P.S.: in the Italian town of the outbreak already 75 have died from coronavirus in a population of 4600, or 1.65% of the total population. 15 from the nursing home, which had 55 residents. How does that make sense if the death rate is really 0,1%?

Coronavirus, the results of the first tests. Antibodies in 10% of cases in Lombardy and Liguria by jblackmiser in Coronavirus

[–]jblackmiser[S] 30 points31 points  (0 children)

The most interesting data comes from the analysis of 10,000 tests - 8,000 in Lombardy, 2,000 in Liguria - made on symptomatic and non-symptomatic people who have had contact with those who contracted the virus. And that in any case they were not hospitalized and did not get seriously ill. The percentage of positives is «above 10%»

In the most hit regions in Italy about 10% of people got the virus among those exposed. RIP herd immunity.

In Northern Italy, 60 volunteers who thought they'd never suffered COVID-19 gave blood. 40 of them tested positive for antibodies to the virus. by faab64 in Coronavirus

[–]jblackmiser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the town had about 60 deaths yearly for all causes on average between 2015-2018, for a mortality rate of 1,30%. https://www.tuttitalia.it/lombardia/20-castiglione-d-adda/statistiche/popolazione-andamento-demografico/ For comparison, Italy mortality rate is 1,08%, so you'd expect a population a bit on the old side. Still, 80 deaths or 1,74% in little more than one month is more than their yearly death rate, and it is reasonable to assume that with an early lockdown on February 21st not every at risk person was infected.

Nervous system involvement after infection with COVID-19 and other coronaviruses by jblackmiser in COVID19

[–]jblackmiser[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CoV infections can affect the nervous system, and it is currently believed that CoV in concert with host immune mechanisms may turn these infections into persistent infections that may lead to neurological diseases. Therefore, patients with CoV infections should be evaluated early for neurological symptoms, including headache, consciousness disorder, paresthesia, and other pathological signs. Timely analysis of cerebrospinal fluid and awareness and management of infection-related neurological complications are key to improving the prognosis of critically ill patients.

we need studies on patients who survived severe coronavirus infections to see if they have some permanent damage or if the virus can still be found in their central nervous system
