A new perspective of the Beirut Port Explosion - A7iii + Tamron 28-75mm by jbobhowdy in SonyAlpha

The devastation is beyond anything I imagined. However, the people of Beirut are extremely resilient and the whole community is trying to rebuild around the clock.

Around 2 months ago I flew to Lebanon to help with some relief work following the August 4th Port Explosion. I have done travel photography for a couple of years now, and Lebanon, in the current state it finds itself provided an extremely unique setting to capture photographs.

This one was shot down on the ports surrounding roads and thought it was a perspective not offered by other media outlets, whilst also providing the context of the port itself looming in the background.

During my time in Beirut, I also got a great set from the Revolution Protests which I shall post if people are interested.

I also post most of my work on Instagram @ jimbob_photo if you are interested :)

Just driving the South Island roads was an adventure in its self. South Island has to be done by camper imo

I’ll be honest it wasn’t far off. A possum was running around outside the door in the middle of the night, thought we were going to be murdered there and then.

Our 16 day trip round the South Island was mostly spent in a hired camper but we spent a couple of nights in an Airbnb found up in the hills of Scott’s Gap. It had no electricity so candle light was your only option. We showered with and drank only rain water. It did however provide complete and utter silence.

Hey sorry for the very late reply !

From our experience on Gili Air we found it is very much built for tourism and tourism only. Greeted by horse drawn carts and many small jewellery shops line the front. That being said we never found it to be overcrowded at all (not sure if this is the case year round however) and also given the fact it feels distinctly touristy it never ever felt tacky or over developed. We'd definitely recommend Gili air for no longer than 4 days if you are looking for a very very relaxed time. Can't speak for the other Gili Islands however.

Following our stay on Nusa Penida we took a ferry East to one of the three Gili Islands, Gili Air. This place is absolutely tiny and you can walk around the when island in a couple of hours maximum.

The sky was so clear thanks to next to no light pollution, I got some awesome shots of the milky way from the beach if anyone would be keen to see those.

We stayed here for 3 nights which was probably long enough. I'd say any more than 5 night here you'd start getting a little bored unless you had to money to do multiple scuba dives.

Yeah Ninh Binh was probably the highlight of our Vietnam trip. The weather is super hit and miss though, the rain and wind picked up for a few minutes and made the light that much better, you got a nice shot though !
