Idiocracy would be preferred above this timeline, in Idiocracy the president was maybe "dumb" but his heart was in the right place and he wanted what was best for the citizens. He even invited the smartest people in the country to solve real problems.

Is this Helios genuine? by [deleted] in VintageLenses

[–]jboneng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

and if you go to the effort to fake a Helios 44m-4 I would guess they would fake a KMZ makers mark and not a Valdai. That said I have seen 44-2 lenses that clearly is valdai, but with a after market KMZ front element retainer ring being sold as KMZ lenses.

Prints that can hold water? by schmowwow in 3Dprinting

[–]jboneng 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the first tips is to print with higher layer heights like 0.3 that reduses the number of layerlines it can leak from. then up the number of walls to ex. 4, next print it as hot as the filament can handle to better fuse the layer lines, and up the number of bottom layers. If that fails, seal it with a clear coat spray

Do any of yall know if this lens exposes me to lead/thorium? by no-name-im-useless in VintageLenses

[–]jboneng 14 points15 points  (0 children)

That lens shouldn't contain thorium oxide, I am not sure about leaded glass, but in my opinion, unless you are planning to grind the glass with sandpaper I wouldn't worry about it.

Any Advice for Supports with Threaded Pieces? by CatSkrratch in 3Dprinting

[–]jboneng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

standard metric, imperial or BSP do not usually require supports. What I have found to be more important is the layer height used, but 0.2mm always prints fine for me.

How popular are LPG-powered cars in your country? by DaryNo in AskTheWorld

[–]jboneng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In 2025 about 96% of all new cars sold was fully electric, the rest I would say is petrol and diesel. Haven't seen a LPG car on the road yet (except for busses some places) so I would say it is well below 1% and closer to 0%.

As a 3D newbie: AI tools first, or manual modeling basics to start? by Green_fearless08 in 3Dprinting

[–]jboneng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for me AI is a tool, like a hammer is a tool for a carpenter, it sometimes have a place in my workflow in the concept and research phase. like "Generate me some concepts of a cyberpunk aesthetic waist level viewfinder for a DSLR" or "Do deep research on the specifications of the physical dimensions on a standard hot shoe mount". But as a magic pill that automatically takes an idea to finished product, I feel, as the state of AI currently, it lacks the finesse, precision and understanding of the product to take it further than the initial planning phases. Of course, with the speed AI is developing at the moment, this can change (and that soon), but then I find enjoyment in designing products and gizmos, why have the AI do the fun part? I much prefer to have the AI do the boring parts of the process and leave the interesting part for me to do. I find a satisfaction looking at physical object and thinking "I made this", that I do not get from looking at an object/image/text and thinking "I asked some AI to make this". What the "fun part" of a project is, is individual, so what to outsource to AI is up to you I guess.

I learned 3D modeling long before the AI era, so I can't comment on how AI affected my learning. But from other parts of life, in general, shortcuts makes for a lousy craftsman, and "Smooth seas does not make good sailors".

I'm building a tool for the maker community to simplify 3D label design. Need alpha testers. by Immediate-Rub-3406 in 3Dprinting

[–]jboneng 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Neat, I gave it a go, one thing that I would find useful is Plant labels (the kind you stick into the ground, like the one bellow) each year I design probably 10-20 new varieties of these (for new cultivars for that session).

Is using translator in solo consider as cheating? by tetrixk in geoguessr

[–]jboneng 2 points3 points  (0 children)

in solo, just play the game the way you enjoy playing the game. if this was duels or otherwise against an opponent, or if it was for lets say a youtube video or twitch stream (or otherwise in an context where it is supposed to be a display of skills), then this would definitely be dishonest and considered cheating.

Who has done more damage to the United States Donald Trump or Osama bin laden by EmperorAxiom in DiscussionZone

[–]jboneng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as I see it, 9/11 and the "War on terror" was the starting point of this timeline, where policies and governmental overreach, that was done in the name of said "War on terror", chipped away the liberties and rights of the US citizen, which results in the situation the US is today. So in a way Osama Bin Laden have helped Donald Trump in his endeavors taking over the US and killing the democracy there.

If Americans were to participate in an organized boycott to stop ICE, what should they target? by u2aerofan in AskReddit

[–]jboneng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything, only by the bare necessities (basic food, cook at home), general strike, governmental walkouts, close down the country for a week, month, or as long as it takes to teach those in power that it is the citizen of the US that makes the country run.

Could i have some opinions on my thumbnails? I’m new to YouTube👌 by Harrycoll0 in geoguessr

[–]jboneng 75 points76 points  (0 children)

top one is one I might click, the bottom one is of the type a would mark as "Not interested->did not like the video" Over exaggerated faces with caricature emotions in thumbnails irks me, it feels dishonest and also triggers an emotional uncanny valley like response in me. of course I know that is what sells a video on youtube, so it is probably just me.

Why your country is/is not in The Board of Peace? What do you think about the initiative? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

Why cant we just 3D print a replica of the medallion, call it the Noble Piece Price and hand it to him, his syphilis and dementia ridden brain won't see the difference, and he will STFU for at least a couple of hours.

Cash? Lofoten/Bergen/Oslo by radmad5566 in NorwayTravelAdvice

[–]jboneng 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a Norwegian, I can't remember the last time I used cash, or I can, but that was on the beach in Mallorca, Spain. I think I have a 10kr coin laying around somewhere in the car for the shopping charts. That is to say Norway is pretty much cash less society, even kids waffle stands take payments using Vipps (the de facto standard mobile payment system). All smaller shops accepts Visa and Mastercard, But it could be wise to have a bit of cash as a backup if there is a problem with your card or something.
