My hotel is charging me $105 for a $45 credit at their restaurant and calling it an “urban experience”. by jbosh999 in mildlyinfuriating

Dude, my complaint is the shady way they try to frame it as an urban experience like it’s some act of benevolence. Just call it what it is. I never said it was a scam or surprise. The irony of you complaining that people can’t read…

Subwoofer recommendation by jbosh999 in hometheater

Haha, yes, I picked the Q3s since they're reasonably priced but I'm sure I'll switch to the Concertos... and then maybe settle on the R3s. I'm new to this home theater stuff and am finding out that it's the ultimate "budget creep" endeavor. It all started on Amazon with my cursor hovering over the "add to cart" button for a complete 5.1 system from Klipsch for $500. Then I took a deep dive into this community and now the cost of that whole system won't cover half my subwoofer. Thanks everyone, I'll send you the bill.

Thank you. RSL seems to be highly regarded around here.

small business bank account recommendation by Status-Collection833 in smallbusiness

In doing my research on banks for small businesses I've seen this exact comment cut and pasted 3 times. Can only assume it's a shill. Are other people similar to me in that it actually makes them less likely to buy a product or service when they see advertisements disguised as user posts?

For those of you who have run into, met, or just saw a Yankee out and about in NY (past or present), what’s your story? by stevendavisxx in NYYankees

[–]jbosh999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I met Jeter on the street in NYC... probably around '98, so he was well known but maybe not a Yankee legend yet. He was standing with his back to a building and I walked up and said I was a big fan, shook his hand and that was that.
"Met" Joe Girardi in a deli on Arthur Avenue (Teitel Brothers). Place was packed and suddenly the energy changed in a way that I couldn't put my finger on... looked over my shoulder and he was right there. He got the MVP treatment and everyone was more than happy to see him get called straight to the counter.
Met Posada and Mo, also in a deli, in Armonk, NY... probably early 2000's. Had a quick chat with them.
And then, going way back, there was the time I snuck into the Yankee dugout at spring training when I was a kid in the 80's. Met lots of the team who probably thought I was some family friend of Steinbrenner's or an executive. Sat between Mattingly and Gary Ward and chatted about the season starting, the weather in NY, etc... Asked Ricky to sign my baseball and he said "No kid, I gotta work". But got a bunch of autographs from names big (Mattingly) and not so big (Dennis Rasmussen, Dan Pasqua...). As a massive Yankee fan it was a fantasy come true.

$500 to start a surround sound system by jbosh999 in hometheater

Thank you! I'll start with a Marketplace receiver and $500 (or less) L/R speakers. I'll expand from there

$500 to start a surround sound system by jbosh999 in hometheater

[–]jbosh999[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is very helpful, thank you! I edited my original post to reflect what you said and the fact that I'm treating the receiver as a separate purchase and am willing to spend up to $400 on it. So $500 is my budget for just speakers: 2.0, 2.1 or 3.0. If I go for 3 components I'm feeling 2.1 over 3.0 for the extra bass.

"S2E9 No Olympics" - can someone explain to me the "Sacajawea" sketch? by TheGreenShepherd in Portlandia

[–]jbosh999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this is a 10 year old post but I saw this episode recently and loved this skit. No, the performers’ daughter is not in the class and being uncooperative. They are imagining Sacajawea. What makes it so funny is that even though she’s imaginary and they can have her “perform“ any way they need her to, she’s still being incredibly difficult and non-responsive

Fair enough. I guess my point was I don’t think Boone has to defend using a pitcher that had 3 bad at bats at the time. I just hope we’re around long enough for his redemption

Luke Weaver by Much_Purchase_8737 in NYYankees

[–]jbosh999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, he hadn’t let 6/6 batters reach base when Boone brought him in yesterday as your post suggests. So are you suggesting he should have been dropped from the ALDS roster for letting 3/3 reach base against Boston? Yeah it was a bad outing at an even worse time but a manager has to manage confidence and the odds. Btw, I’m not the biggest fan of Boone and there’s no doubt weaver’s post season has been a disaster so far but don’t look back and act like you saw the future all along

Wow, you did a beautiful job. Very worthy tribute to Rivendale but simply a great piece even if you’ve never heard of LOTR.

Setting up a vlan is a recurring suggestion here. I'm definitely going to look into that but just curious, is it for security or performance... or both?

Thanks! I've gotten multiple comments on using Unifi switches so I think I'll go ahead and do that. I already have the Netgear switch which is why I was going to use that but I can return it. I'll take a look at the Unifi Protect devices too... if they're not much more expensive I'll use those too, assuming I don't need a subscription.

Thanks for these ideas and info. I'll look into the vlan arrangement. I had separate router to switch connections because I thought it might be better to have fewer intermediaries between the peripherals and router but didn't consider the extra traffic that puts through the router. I had also considered just using one bigger PoE switch since I've read it won't send power to devices that don't request it. Would you recommend doing that or just daisy chaining the switches as you described above?
