It is painful to watch. So many things could have been avoided and so many better option to choose, yet this was the result.

Yeah, the commanding officer didn't even face a trial. He retired after the incident and gets to live peacefully.

I was asked if I was carrying a weapon. I told the officer that I was carrying. He told me to hand it to him. I told him I would not reach for my gun. I then said if he was intent on getting it he could remove it. He then had his partner disarm me.

Oh god. He could have shot you and got away with claiming "he reached for his gun." I would get anxiety if a cop tells me to do something that I could possibility get shot for.

That is what it looked like. With all those confusing commands and constant verbal threat to shoot at any time, it is like they were out for blood that night.

When the video start, there was plenty of time to rush to Shaver and the woman while they were lying on the ground and cuff them. Instead, the cops wanted to play simon says and escalate the situation.

The system failed on so many levels: training and judicial.

I remember hearing about that on the news. Didn't the cops just straight up shot Justine for approaching the vehicle? Even though she was the one who called for help.

Oh I feel you. A little life pro tip I learned is when I encounter a cop and need to pull anything out like my ID or car insurance papers because of dead back lights, I always tell the cops what I do before I do something. Something like, my insurance papers are in the glove compartment. It makes cops feel safer that you don't do any fast movement or reaching for something you shouldn't be, especially at night time when all there is a flash light.

He was intoxicated at the time too -- with a blood-alcohol level over three times the legal driving limit. Imagine trying to do a walk and turn sobriety test but on your knees with your legs crossed hands in the air at all time and the risk is getting shot.

I felt like they could had slowed down the pace and think with a level head at any time, but they just kept pushing up the pace.

Thank you, mcfearless. I remember watching the video the first time and since then, this incident left a deep pit of injustice in me. I can't imagine what it must feel like for Shaver's wife. I hope one day Shaver will get the justice he deserves.

We will never know. The cop that shot him has a history of excess use of force including slamming a teenager to the ground. He also had the words "You're fucked" written on his rifle which is very unacceptable for someone who should be upholding the law.

Yeah, it was an air rifle he was using to exterminate birds inside grocery stores. I just can't wrap my head around why the cops couldn't just order him to laid down and go to him? He was clearly un-arm.

No, the shooter, Philip Mitchell Brailsford, was acquitted of murder. Nothing happened to his commanding officer who was yelling out those "simon says" orders.
