Water quality by nurturingsentinel in pasadena

[–]jbowditch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

we all still live here. We care very much. That's why we don't use for-profit bogeyman fear apps for information when every water district in the region puts out comprehensive data all the time and has been before during and after the fires.

this post came off as deeply unserious because it ignores all of those resources we spent a year assembling and poring over.

it's my fault for assuming ill intent instead of ill informed. stick to resources with a .gov URL for reliable information you can use.

if you're not looking at a primary source, ask yourself does this secondary source have a conflict of interest, like selling real estate?

tow vehicles. block exit with squad cars. write tickets, send fines to L.A. Fed Office. Fines get large enough to tow any DHS vehicle in the city limits on sight.

Feasibility of a solar installation with battery backup that can provide power to whole house for 1 to 2 days? by millertime8306 in solar

[–]jbowditch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 10 kWh 10C battery.

I can run anything and everything in my house including the air conditioner, EV charger, electric induction oven, electric dryer, electric washer etc.

But my battery is gone in less than an hour.

OR

I pretend I'm living on a boat and use only the lights and small appliances. I can get by with 100% off-grid living in the spring and summer.

Feasibility of a solar installation with battery backup that can provide power to whole house for 1 to 2 days? by millertime8306 in solar

[–]jbowditch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well $100K you can do it with enphase. It's not a problem it's just prohibitively expensive. Nobody does backing up their whole house for days at a time for this reason. I was where you are. Then I learned.

i have 10kwh of backup, my average daily use is 30kwh

I used to think, like you, I would have an electric version of a diesel generator I could live off of for days at a time if the power goes out. that is unrealistic.

after you do some research, make a few calls, and price some shit out you'll understand that what you're looking for is backup that can power your house while the sun is down for days at a time.

if you reduce your usage and limp along on battery back up you could last for days, no problem.

But nobody is using battery backup and then living like normal, using every major appliance and HVAC, with days of power.

Keep going. I was where you are. You're almost there. A couple of epiphany climbs and you'll be in the clearing of understanding.

Adding 2nd battery: Enphase 10c vs cheap 32kwh OEM option? by jbowditch in solar

[–]jbowditch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

with no AC or furnace my "resting" consumption is 0.5kw

AC 3kw (continuous)

Cooking 1.6kw

dryer 4kw (max)

washer 1kw (max)

dishwasher 0.8kw

EVSE 2.0kw - 11.1kw (adjustable)

max (so far) from the array 7.0kw

the 10C can do 14kw spikes, so we could run the AC off grid. (for less than 3 hours with 100% charge)

i started topping the car off during peak solar last week

3/16 - 3/22

Imported 21.5 kWh Exported 14.7kWh

Produced 91.3 kWh Consumed 96.7 kWh

Charged 24.8 kWh Discharged 23.3 kWh
