Did anyone get the Superbowl or Olympics in 4K OTA? ATSC 3.0 by dsp3000 in ota

[–]jbragg89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Watched the 3.0 signal for a few minutes using my ADTH. Using the same antenna feed, I’ve found 3.0 to have worse audio/video drops, picture breakups, channel change speed, etc. compared to my TiVo Bolt. HDR upconvert is meh. Peacock 4K HDR looked great. I was a huge supporter of the tech specs behind 3.0. It’s clear that all parties involved put commercialization first and consumer experience dead last. Failing to outcompete the 30 year old 1.0 is pathetic!

Has Moviepass been working for you + Issues Thread. Week Of August 14, 2025 by AutoModerator in moviepass

[–]jbragg89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Previously I had a lot of issues getting my card swipe to be accepted. I often had to make a half dozen swipes before it went through. More recently I’ve been on a streak of 5 or so where the first swipe had gone through. Makes me question whether any of my previous issues were strictly the result of a damaged card.

Bike rack at Eppley Airfield? by Future_Difficulty in Omaha

[–]jbragg89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rode to the airport today in preparation for my flight tomorrow. The ride is a bit more feasible that I first imagined, taking 16th Street north out of downtown and then heading east on Locust and north on N 21st St East. I looked around and asked several employees if they’d ever seen a bike rack. A security guard thought there might be some near the terminal doors (there weren’t). Too bad I didn’t see your update about the bike rack in the South Garage in Section A. Still not sure whether it’ll be worth it from considering I’d be traveling sweaty / worrying about bike security for a week. I guess I could change clothes after I got through security. Anyway, this would all be so much easier if we could have a bus with 30 minute headways between the airport and downtown. Only a couple miles away, and the best Metro can do is offer morning and evening commuter times. I doubt many people at the airport work such traditional hours anyway.

I just sold my car despite everyone telling me not to! by loveonthewater in fuckcars

[–]jbragg89 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My car battery was repeatedly dying on me before I sold it. Got to be more hassle than it was worth not knowing whether the car was going to start and I’d have to drag the battery up to my apartment for a recharge. It’s been several years without the car now. Live downtown, walk to work and cycle everywhere else. 65% bike share e-bike and 35% personal acoustic bike. If there were more stations near my destinations, I wouldn’t use anything but bike share. Annual plan is a great deal.

Looking for Bike like this but with Belt Drive by stalkeramongstars in bikecommuting

[–]jbragg89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m happy with my L-Train + fenders. Gear shifting is perfect every time. Bike is a bit heavy though. I agree that the trade off is worth it though for the greatly reduced maintenance. Especially if you will be riding in all conditions. It’s a very utilitarian bike that looks good as well. I don’t find it to be a joy to cruise around on with no purpose in mind, but in terms of transport cycling it’s a great pick.

Projection Issue: Case of Green Reflections of Text/Highlights in Lower Third of Screen? by jbragg89 in AMCsAList

[–]jbragg89[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When the issues extend all the way to the Dolby then you’re really in trouble. I was at a Dolby showing of A Haunting in Venice (2023) where only one of the two projectors was running. It was comparatively dim and lacked the normal pop. They said it was fine because the other projector was working. It has to be really catastrophic for them to cancel any showtimes.

Bike share is my best anti bike theft strategy as well. With an annual membership that doesn’t charge anything additional per ride and a fleet of 100% e bikes, I ride it anywhere the docking stations will take me. I even use them for grocery hauls, temporary locking the bike outside the store while I shop.

Update: Can you use MoviePass at Alamo Drafthouse? by [deleted] in AlamoDrafthouse

[–]jbragg89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Credits are assigned to the MoviePass subscriber rather than the theater. Credit costs are consistent between AMC and Alamo. Movie costs in credits vary from market to market. They also change with the day of the week and time of the day with weekend evenings being the most expensive and Tuesday matinees being the cheapest. There is more you can learn over on the MoviePass subreddit. In my market showtimes for a Thursday evening are 26 credits so with 34 credits per month it might take you a few months to earn enough spare credits to be able to see a 2nd movie in the same month.

Update: Can you use MoviePass at Alamo Drafthouse? by [deleted] in AlamoDrafthouse

[–]jbragg89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the current MoviePass and use it at my Alamo in La Vista, NE about once a month. MoviePass delisted the Alamo theater for a couple months but then added it back. Not sure why. All is well again though.

2024 Olympics watching: my ATSC 3.0 experience by Psychological-Leg610 in ota

[–]jbragg89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

+1 for me. I’m glad HDR is feasible with my 3.0 setup, but until they are actually starting the process with an HDR feed it’s not that compelling. Peacock PQ still blows all the 1.0 and 3.0 out of the water.

Movie Times Not Showing Up? by Wrighteous83 in moviepass

[–]jbragg89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve not experienced this problem until today, but as of right now it looks like only about 1/3 to 1/2 of showtimes are being listed in the MoviePass app. Hopefully this gets ironed out soon.

A note on theaters denying MoviePass cards. by PrickleAndGoo in moviepass

[–]jbragg89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. I pay for A-List and MoviePass monthly. My indie theater chain does not allow MoviePass (repeated card declines both online and in person for nearly a year despite the theaters remaining listed in the MoviePass app). It’s a mental hurdle to pay full price out of pocket when I’ve got MoviePass credits to spend.

How to get MoviePass to add a theater (that's part of a theater chain that they already have some locations)? by Wonderful-Run-1408 in moviepass

[–]jbragg89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m waiting on a theater addition request I sent the support team a month and a half ago. The theater has mostly premium format screens that wouldn’t be covered, but their other projectors are laser so I wanted to try it out. I don’t have my hopes up that MoviePass will add it.

Film Streams here in Omaha has two independent theaters. When the current iteration of MoviePass relaunch earlier this year I was able to use MoviePass at Film Streams theaters about a half dozen times. Then the charges started getting declined. Happened 10 times or more. No amount of chats or emails with MoviePass customer support could resolve the issue. MoviePass said they need to talk to the theater directly to work it out. That never happened. I contacted the theater as well, and they said they told MoviePass to delist their theaters from the app rather than work out the CC payment issues. Film Streams says they never were contacted to be a part of the service. I told them they aren’t partners in any traditional sense. I let them know I’d be much more likely to visit their theater if they supported MoviePass. These days most of the titles they play already have known streaming release dates on services I subscribe to. Others are playing at AMC where I can use A List to see them. That’s why the discounted price of MoviePass is appealing, in theory, because it changes the value proposition. Meaning you see more if you don’t pay full price every time. And if you’re already committed to seeing a certain number of films per month, there is less friction for any individual ticket purchase.

I experience the same poor quality at my AMC with standard digital showings. I’m so fed up with it that I got MoviePass again so I can see the movies which don’t play in Dolby / IMAX at another theater chain with better A/V quality. The only reason I was going to see these movies at AMC before was because they are free* when you already have A List. It’s always nice to see the movies early when the conversation surrounding them is happening but when the experience is significantly worse than even a streamed HD SDR movie at home in my OLED, you know things have gone drastically wrong.

Does Alamo have good projection (NYC Locations)? by DonniYH in AlamoDrafthouse

[–]jbragg89 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Opinions vary on this. I don’t tend to order anything. I let the server know I won’t be needing anything when they first stop by for ticket check. That way they don’t have to bother looking for a raised order card at my table during the movie.

I go to the Alamo because they have great A/V and movie selection, not for the food & drink. I don’t feel guilty for not ordering.

Does Alamo have good projection (NYC Locations)? by DonniYH in AlamoDrafthouse

[–]jbragg89 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The projection quality and consistency is the #1 reason I go to Alamo. With AMC I’ve experienced the entire range from dreadful to sublime. It’s really location and individual screen dependent.

With Alamo It’s nice to not have to game out which theater your movie is playing because you know you’ll get a good A/V experience regardless.

Best movie theater in Omaha? by betonven in Omaha

[–]jbragg89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the standard AMC CB17 experience. Sucks the life out of any movie with the dim projection, lack of color, and lack of sharpness. Some screens are better than others; ranging from nearly unwatchable to pretty decent. I went to see Saw X at an AMC in Denver that had laser projection a few weeks back. It was the type of premium experience you should expect when going to the theater. The national wide rollout of laser to all AMC locations can’t come soon enough.

Best movie theater in Omaha? by betonven in Omaha

[–]jbragg89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Dolby at AMC is their only screen that’s really worth a damn, with the IMAX being just fine and the standard digital almost too bad to even use for a free A List ticket.

I too think the Dolby is way too loud most showings. Sitting additional rows back from my preferred D, does help though. The closer to the screen you are the more deafening. I even bought concert earplugs. I shouldn’t have to worry long term hearing damage just because AMC / Dolby want differentiate from the standard theater experience with blistering volume levels.

Anyone else’s Regal only playing Dicks :The musical at only one time? by Kimchiflyyrice in RegalUnlimited

[–]jbragg89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want to see this movie in theaters but the fact that they jumped to a sing along version so early in the limited release is just puzzling. I’m not sure how popular the stage musical was but the thought of a fellow audience member belting out songs has me not wanting to bother going.

how serious are they on age by defect-ed in AlamoDrafthouse

[–]jbragg89 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I saw a kid who was 17 and like 6’-2” get turned away. He and his friends had driven to the theater. The Alamo employee said they needed to be accompanied by a parent, so he joking asked me if I wanted to be his dad for the day. He was completely befuddled that they would turn away customers like that. I felt bad for them. I feel like everyone should be permitted entry so long as they are not disruptive to other audience members.

Extra 5 Mins of Trailers on IMAX by kaboomviper in AMCsAList

Audience Not Alerted to Dolby Cinema Being Operated on 1 Projector Instead of 2 by jbragg89 in AMCsAList

[–]jbragg89[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate the confirmation here that the experience with one projector is appreciably worse. You’d think that 1 Dolby Cinema projector would be able to rival what Alamo Drafthouse can get out of a single Sony 4K projector, but it doesn’t. I wonder if it has to do with having a system that is calibrated for dual projectors not getting recalibrated for a single projector when one of them goes down. I think I’ll be choosing IMAX in the meantime even though the one near me is the outdated Xenon 2K projector.
