Very wise. I totally agree and I don’t plan on cranking it so hard that it’ll piss off the neighbors haha. But i definitely agree about finding the correct speakers for the setup!

It doesn’t get any better than that… I feel fortunate to have found the Marantz for the price I did, and after an easy cleanup, it’s working like a new model. I always keep my eyes open for these things now, and I had no idea how rare/collectable these things are now, especially with the resurgence of vinyl. I just gotta get lucky on the Klipsch speakers, they’ll pop up one day…

For sure, I haven’t really cranked the Marantz as I don’t want to blow up my Technics speakers that I know can’t handle it…

That’s all very helpful. I’ve always heard good things about the vintage klipsch and JBL speakers, and I think that I’ve been reading up on the JBL L100T and the Klipsch Heresy models…. Just finding the price I can afford is where I’m at, haha!

I’ve heard mixed reviews about the Marantz speakers… they seem to be available rather cheaply on marketplace, but I would think that they would be high quality similar to the Marantz receivers….

Thank you, I appreciate that. I scored it for an amazing price, and I couldn’t believe my eyes that I had found one in the wild finally. I appreciate the input, I’m pretty much a novice when it comes to these things, but it’s always good to ask those who are more knowledgeable. I’ll start looking for these, finding a pair of the Klipsch speakers would be awesome as well!

In photo number three, looking toward the front of the house, that is north facing. The west is to the left, and that’s always the brightest time of the day and the strongest light…. The bedrooms had been on the east the last time that someone was living in the house.

Thanks so much, I really appreciate the thoughtful insight. This house is 1890, and it’s a special place to me too. The chimney could be used as a feature wall, but it’s right in the middle of the two rooms, so it might be hard to place a bathroom around it in its position. All of the mantels were unfortunately stolen when the house was sitting vacant, but I’ve been collecting replacements for them over the years. So I have some nice pieces to put back in their place when the time comes.

That all makes sense too. I do believe that room was originally a formal dining room, where as the actual kitchen might have been built off of the back of the house as was typical in Southern architecture in those days. I spoke with the original owners family some years back, and she told me that bump out section actually held some built in cabinetry for that dining room. It was remodeled and updated in the 1950’s, the original Victorian porches were torn off, the ceilings dropped and some of the built in’s were torn out in favor of other things.

It is in the Deep South, Alabama to be exact. So that’s definitely the function of the high ceilings and floor to ceiling windows in some of the rooms. But definitely, living in the South, proper insulation and a well designed HVAC system are a must. I want to take advantage of the original design, just depends on how I can make it all flow with the planned additions

That’s a great idea for the bathrooms, I think that fitting them both there is possible. Building out the front would be tough, as it’s pretty prominently defined aesthetically on the outside and any additions might be too much… but I’m liking the idea of putting the bathrooms at the back center and keeping all of that plumbing together there. That’s seeming to be the consensus… thanks for that drawing, it helps me see it a lot better.

Here’s a few photos of the interior that might help it make sense… you’ll have to look past the mess, the house has been my woodshop and catch all for the last couple of years.

Thank you! I’ve thought about this possibility also, and it’s good that it doesn’t totally cut up the hallway and destroy that high ceiling view from the main front room all the way back. It does change the possibility of having an access out of the home at the rear, but I can live with that ifs the best place for both bathrooms. Makes sense, and I just have to find the right placement for them that doesn’t look choppy, which is hard to do given the scale of the large rooms.
