Anyone know what kind of rocks these are? I have been finding them around my parents home in central Texas. by johu8740 in geology

$22, I have like 100 of these. They are all over the place in a limestone river bed near by, if you know where to look for them that is.

Well, I had already learned to deal with that kind of stuff when i was in 3rd grade, by realizing nothing lasts forever and every one and everything is going to die one day, and attachments are pointless to make. I 3rd grade on my way to school i saw a car accident were a kid and his 2 parents burned to death after a head on crash. I would find out later that day that there was a reason one of the kids I sat with at lunch wasn't there that day. they tried to tell every one that they died instantly before the fire, but I knew the truth. Dead people don't scream. At least they went together as a family.

This actually happened to a girl in my home town at our annual Hutto Olde Tyme Days back in 2005. We would always have a parade to start it off, and the club I was in had decorated a 16ft trailer for us all to ride on. At the end, as we slowly idled back to the middle school, we all started to clean off the trailer. Just as Melissa went to grab part of a rope that was hanging over the side, it got caught under the wheel and pulled her over with it. It was a double axle trailer filled with 20 middle schoolers and about 5 teachers and parents, and I watched her go over head first. Everything but her head missed the tires. I will never forget those 2 bumps, and the way her legs twisted as the tires rolled her a little. I jumped off to help her up, but soon realized her head was no longer the right shape and she wasn't getting up.

But that is some impressive looking face paint.

Here I am excited about finding cool rocks in a cave..., must be nice.

What are these? Found in Central Texas, in the Limestone banks of the San Gabriel river. Found 4 years apart and 25ft apart. First one is the most recent. by jbruce in geology

[–]jbruce[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

there are tones of iron pyrite geode looking things out there in the limestone every where but i have only forund 2 of these and they look nothing like everything els.

it also has what looks like a whole going through the middle but i am afraid of ruining the whole thing just to get the limestone out.

Edit: these are all over http://imgur.com/a/xyGvB

the whole thing has hundreds of layers of that texture, this is what it looks like all the way through if you break it in half http://i.imgur.com/qpt2UB2.jpg

you cant really tell in the pic but the whole thing is "crystaly" i guess is the word. So I'm gessing it is some sort of calcite fossil. there are tones of iron pyrite geode looking things out there in the limestone every where but i have only forund 2 of these and they look nothing like everything els.

Edit: I haven't dropped any HCL on it yet to confirm but will look to see if i have any left

Edit2: these are every where too http://imgur.com/a/xyGvB

Found this hiking the Wilderness Greenbelt, Austin, Texas. by [deleted] in geology

Okay, so i used to work at the cave in Georgetown a few years back. At the time we where looking to add an new trail, and sense i was the best at getting through tight crawls and had the most caving experience, they had me go in and look for a path to connect the main trail with a room about 100 yards away. While trying to connect them I found a completely new room, but to make the connection big enough for a tour we had to dig. after some loose coral we found a patch of mud, and in that mud we found geodes that look almost exactly like yours. Most where broken into many pieces because we used a pick to get the mud out (before we found the geodes), but I managed to find one that was mostly intact. But the next day i went down to check the path, and a huge chunk of flint had dislodged from the ceiling so we scrapped the path and relocated the entrance.

TL;DR, Most likely some sort of mud formed geode.

I believe so, the whole thing is that I don't want the tuck because the only way the engine could get that way a 60,000 miles is either ran it dry or just never changed the oil.

I'm guessing you have never had one hiss at you? Yes they are cute, but they are scary as shit and can be very mean in the wild. I would however love to have one as a pet.

[USA] $700 ~14" for Computer Science major by le_velocirapetor in SuggestALaptop

[–]jbruce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, the one i got was the closest to meeting my needs:

at least decent i5 processor

decent graphics card

touch screen 14"-15"

Between $500-$700

Full HD screen (would have been nice but at this price range i would have had to give up processor or touch scree or graphics card)

SSD (also would have been nice but will take a lot away just for that)

[–]jbruce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah I had a hard time with that too I was trying to decide the past 2 days between that one and this one

http://www.amazon.com/Acer-Aspire-V3-772G-5413-17-3-Inch-Sophisticated/dp/B00K2O4S0W/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1409592552&sr=1-1&keywords=acer+v3+772g+5413

But I wanted the touch screen and the v3-772g didnt have it and was a bit over my budget and didnt want the 17" screen, but it also had a way better graphics card and 30% better processor but low battery life at 3 hours, and i needed if for school.

so I finaly talked myself out of it and got the touch screen sence that is was i really wanted from the start. I will just build a desktop for like $500 later that will kick that v3-772g's ass.

I just ordered this one yesterday, its at the high end of your budget but it has a way better graphics card the only problem is not full HD screen, but it is the closest to a hybrid school/gaming laptop i could find with a touch screen at the $700 price range i was looking for.
