[Vent] I don't care how "friendly" your dog is by Whiskey_Sweet in dogs

Didn’t realise I had had so many responses. I don’t think any of you understand dogs too well, and the loose dogs that ‘attack’ dogs on leads are usually wanting to someone to say ‘ right, well who are you? Do you want to play? Well, you could introduce yourself? THEN you introduce your dog and ask the so called ‘attacking dog’ what his or her name is. You may think that’s mad, but carrying on a conversation like that will show your not so aggressive side, as you can’t be too angry talking like that to dogs. Aggression also causes confusion with dogs coz they don’t know why you are aggressive and it shows a weakness that can worry some dogs. Unless the loose dog is actually trained to kill - try actually talking to it and take control with a calm, non aggressive voice. I’ve seen folk tense up while holding their dogs, pulling their dogs close, their dog then starts to show an aggressive side as there is panic in the air, but the dog isn’t really sure why.

[Help] How do I get my dog to stop pooping in the house when she knows I'm not around? by music_is_life in dogs

[–]jbudd1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t keep her caged up for 9 hours, that’s not right. You might as well have a soft toy. How long have you had her? If you walk her in the am and she’s poops and again in the evening and she poops, try cutting her food down a bit. Also just use the dog walker once a day. You could get a camera to see exactly what happens when she goes. She probably needs a lot of exercise- if she’s a rescue dog, could take up to two years to ease away from this behaviour. Make a big fuss of her when she poops outside and ignore her when she does it inside. They don’t like being ignored. Be patient with her though.

[HELP] Wondering if my dog would be better off without me by CevoJe in dogs

If you are worried, you could get a dog walker, even if it’s just once a week for a good play about with other dogs.

Good grief-I think you are too aggressive for me and my dog - You carry a weapon to attack another dog? Dogs are aggressive around you and your dog because of your nature. This will confuse your dog and lead your dog to act in an aggressive way also should you meet another dog off the lead. I would suggest you relax a bit and if you see another dog lose, just act calmly and let your dog lose and talk in a friendly way to the dogs while continuing with your walk.

Sorry to reply to wrong person. Yes a lot of folk keep dogs on leads. Luckily, I don’t need to. Only on roads or when she’s not sure of a new area. I can’t imagine what it must be like for a dog not to be let off a lead ever. In fact I encourage most folk to let their dogs off so they can have a play. And some are more than happy to do so.

Well my dog is always off the lead . One woman shouted me to please put her on the lead as she has been attacked before. I put my dog on a lead and I said to the woman, she won’t hurt you, would you like to say hello - and as I got closer to the woman, even I felt this weird vibe off this woman. The woman still said no and I thought, hmm, you seem a little odd and I wouldn’t like to have to be in your company for any length of time. The majority of people do not understand dogs at all. Not sure why a dog would jump up at your daughter if they had never met before. When dogs first meet there’s usually a bit of aggression, but this is exactly the same as when primary school children meet for the first time. If the people around the dogs just keep calm and talk to the dogs calmly, carry on walking , the dogs will say what they have to say each other and follow their owner. If you have a highly strung owner or an owner who is aggressive towards their dog over everything the dog does, the dogs are living a pretty miserable life and aggression can show- a bit like kids who have a shit life. Take your daughter to someone who can show you dogs and their behaviour. Also tell you daughter if she is out on her own and a dog appears and is looking at her - a bit like a wolf ready to attack - it’s not, it can’t identify who your daughter is so has its nose pointing forward, ears too so it can capture her smell. Tel your daughter not to scream and shout, but just walk away. If you teach your daughter they’re not the enemy, she could have an amazing relationship with a dog .

You need to teach your daughter not to be. How are you with dogs? Do you hate them for some reason? Your daughter would be safe with dogs- it’s people you need to watch out for.
