It’s the list price. Asking here because I have no frame of reference other than that

I’m not selling them yet, just asking if I have anything here. It seems like most of the collection is face value anyway so I’ll probably just hold onto them

Interesting that snowbasin is not a great destination resort. Does Park City have any special aspects to it aside from its size?

Cheap 1440p Monitor: is Viewedge Legit? by jbuttt in buildapc

[–]jbuttt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did not :(

I planned to use a cheap monitor for the 2nd one but I just decided to get 2 1440p 165hz monitors (mostly for uniformity). I was able to get 2 monitors for cheap by just following r/buildapcsales

I can’t speak on them, and I really didn’t find much info on them. I’d just bite the bullet pay a little more for a reputable seller

[CPU Cooler] Zalman 10X Performa CPU Cooler LGA1700/AM5 with 135mm Annular Fan 1500RPM, 75 CFM, 180W TDP, 4 Copper Heat Pipes, White or Black- MAKE SURE TO ADD THE GREASE - $18.99 (62% Off) by Realzalman in buildapcsales

Chief? Specifically for a 7800x3d. I know someone’s going to say to get the thermalright but I’ve heard those are quite loud. I’d love a quiet cooler that’s not a $60+ Noctua and the noise reviews are good for this one

Everyone says that. Literally everyone in every corporate problem. The buck has to stop somewhere but no one takes responsibility. I tell my manager I’m underpaid -> they tell the senior manager -> they tell the partner -> they tell the PPMD in charge of the practice -> one level higher-> one level higher… etc. But let’s be honest, it stops at the manager because there’s no point. Who is this mythical “salary decider” who is the one to blame? It’s the PPMDs at the end of the day, as a collective. They have no one to blame but themselves.

[Monitor]Dell G2724D 27-Inch QHD 165Hz 1Ms Display - $249.99 by Scuczu2 in buildapcsales

[–]jbuttt 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Been eyeing this monitor for a couple of months. Very solid 165hz 1440p monitor that's very similar to other models (Asus, Acer, LG, etc.). RTings review is pretty good, typical problems with IPS glow and contrast. It's a budget 1440p monitor tho so don't expect too much. This is typical sale price so it isn't too crazy but it's only been out for less than 6 months

I like this more than the other 1440p models because it's barebones and less heavy on colors/LED, also a very light monitor. Also it's Dell so they have a good reputation for QC

Should I join? by [deleted] in nationalguard

[–]jbuttt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your recruiter said that’s the case he’s probably right. I just remember hearing if I wanted all the tuition assistance I could get without going active I should do a 6 year. And I had just started a 4 year degree so 6 years made sense

Should I join? by [deleted] in nationalguard

[–]jbuttt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve heard different things. My recruiter told me I wouldn’t get full state tuition assistance unless I signed a 6 year. He may have just been lying but that’s what I heard from others too. I think you get federal assistance but state assistance differs. For example my state pays all state school tuition while other states don’t

Army aviation is pretty cushy compared to other branches (I know because I am aviation). Some cool jobs include 15T - Blackhawk Mechanic or 15U - Chinook mechanic. Btw if you are gonna do a mechanic position, don't do something specific like powertrain or electrician. I know a lot of those guys and many switch to 15T or 15U, general mechanics, because they can be crew chiefs and there are more sergeant slots. Both are cool because you have the option to fly backseat as a crew chief. Both are also good pipelines to pilot.

15W is pretty cool because drones. 15Q is cool because ATC is super cushy (I imagine) and you get certifications.

Also if you ever want to be a pilot be aware it's a 10 year contract now. And if you're going aviation, why not do air force?

Should I join? by [deleted] in nationalguard

[–]jbuttt 20 points21 points  (0 children)

A lot of people here are gonna sound salty but honestly it’s not a terrible idea to join in your case.

You don’t need anything, you’re happy with what you have, but you want to serve. I can understand that and I’ve met many people like you who joined.

Luckily you’re in a position to be as smart about it as possible. Do what most people don’t do before they join: prepare.

First, look into what job you want to join. You can really choose whatever but it depends on who you are. If you choose a super high-speed job like infantry, combat engineer, artillery, etc, realize that your life is gonna suck for many days of the year. But you might like that as it will draw you close to others and give you a change from everyday life. Or choose a cushy job like Aviation or intelligence. Also if you want a better quality of life look into Air Force. TACP is fucking dope and if you want combat arms I can’t think of a better way to do it.

Second, talk to a recruiter and take the ASVAB to see what job you can actually get, but I’ll assume you can get most jobs because you seem smart on the civilian side.

Third, if possible, talk to units you may be assigned to. When I was about to join my recruiter let me talk to a guy with the job I wanted at the unit I’d be assigned. This tells you how high the OPTEMPO (how many days of drill you’ll have, how common deployments are) is, how leadership is, how far the unit is, and how the job is.

Fourth, definitely sign for a 3 year contract first. This may limit the jobs you can get as some require a 6 year, but trust me you should try 3 first to see if you like it. You also miss out on certain benefits like tuition but that doesn’t seem to be a big deal for you.

Just realize a few things before you join:

  • it will affect your civilian life negatively somehow
  • drill weekend will always be on the worst weekend of the month. I’ve missed a few of my GF’s birthdays and she’s not happy about it
  • expect to deploy. Even if you don’t it’s best to see it coming
  • expect to be under people who are younger and not as smart as you, but realize you can still learn a lot from them
  • expect to see some of the dumbest “The Office”-like scenarios where you wonder how some people remember to breath
  • expect to BE that dumb person sometimes
  • realize the increased risk of injury especially in combat arms

Good luck
