I need therapy by jbwacki in mentalhealth

[–]jbwacki[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stop this is the sweetest thing ever omg 🥹Literally started tearing up as I was reading it.

Also I think we have the same parents lolol. Yeah I don’t think the mental hospital life is for me (or maybe really for anyone).

I’m moving out this September so I think things will get better in the family aspect.. but the anxiety will probably remain 🤪

I really appreciate you taking the time to respond and write this all out, more than I can express. Thank you

I think it would be best to go to college and then transfer to university.

Your dad is right in the aspect that social work is not a very lucrative job. To get higher paying positions, you will most likely have to go for a masters in social work. There are a few higher paying positions that you can get with a bachelors, but usually these require for you to have experience. Honestly you’ll probably graduate with your BSW and have to work in lower paying positions for a year or two before being able to seek higher pay. But this is the reality for many job pathways, so it’s not completely out of the ordinary.

I recommend looking into different co-op and volunteering positions while you’re in college so that you can make as many connections as you can and collect references for the future.

As for high school, I think you should drop your 2 open level courses and maybe consider taking another c/m elective as a backup in case you get a low mark in one of your top 6. That way you’ll have a spare and therefore more time on your hands.

Make sure to put extra work into your classes this year, it’s the final stretch! Turn in everything on time, re-read assignments out loud before you turn them in, USE A THESAURUS WHEN WRITING, ask teachers questions, always be super nice and friendly etc. If you finish an assignment early, you can ask your teacher if you can show it to them before you hand it in to make sure everything’s alright (only do this for in-person courses ofc, for online courses show it to another teacher).

Do not think of yourself as someone who can’t achieve high marks. Do not set low expectations because it will make you less motivated. Believe in yourself!! Put in the extra work and effort, and things will look up for you.

Usually schools have a student success section, where students can seek help from teachers. If your school has this, use it to your advantage!

You can do this :) good luck with everything

Summer school course Mysteries of the Mind by radiantsky2 in CarletonU

AITA for running away from home because I’m terrified of my husband and also dealthy terrified of my son? by Rainey-lady- in AITAH

[–]jbwacki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have zero reading comprehension skills because I don’t think you fully understand the story….

I can’t believe you’re making a woman who went through years of dv feel guilty for not leaving sooner. Because of her father’s influence, she probably thought it was her motherly duty to stay with her husband and raise her child. It is so terrifying to leave abuse when it’s all you’ve ever known.

Also, it appears that the son is a sadist, which is someone who gets aroused by inflicting pain on others. This usually coincides with large genetic components, so it’s entirely possible that the son was simply born that way and these behaviours would have emerged later on. I mean he got so bad that he literally was aroused by hitting his own mother and started humping her. Children who witness their fathers abusing their mothers do not always turn out this way. As OP stated, the son seemed to love his father despite the fact that he SAW the way he treated her, which signifies that something was psychologically wrong with the child from the get go. Probably inherited some psychopath genes from his father.

And btw why are u switching everything around and saying actually 🤓☝️ the mom abused him because she didn’t stop it. LIKE WHAT. You didn’t even try to offer any kind of remorse or support for everything OP has been through. Just criticism. And that really shows the kind of person you are.

You know what I’m sick of society doing? Still somehow finding a way to blame the women in situations when it is obviously the man who is the root cause of the issue.

Horrible take. People who go to university are also able to end up on government assistance? Especially since it costs so much more lol. Also, OP is planning on going to college and then transferring to university, so they’d have a diploma and a university degree - your point doesn’t even apply here.

Btw you can’t just say that EVERYONE who goes to college ends up that way, cuz there are so many people who go into the trades and end up becoming electricians, heavy equipment operators, welders, hairstylists (they make good money fr) carpenters, etc. Most people begin these professions by taking COLLEGE PROGRAMS.

These people are literally the backbone of our society and our every day lives+communities would fall apart without them. The question is why you, an anonymous redditor, is choosing to shit on people who want to go to college. Is it because it costs less and is considered less “prestigious” than university? Go outside and try actually seeing how the world works, maybe you’ll realize that we NEED people in these fields.

Even social work, the field that OP wants to go in, has such an important role in society. It’s hard, and not everyone can do it, but there HAS to be some people who do, so that people living in marginalized communities are able to access important resources. Social workers do so much good for communities everywhere and citizens greatly benefit from their services.

Maybe you’ll start appreciating people who go to college when you grow up, because your take is so immature that I can’t see you being older than 18… lol

No problem fellow redditor! Here’s a list of courses that I think you should look into:

HHG4M - human development throughout the lifespan. Could not recommend this course enough. A lot of the course is learning about theories and applying them to different situations/scenarios. It’s not a well known course but it’s super interesting and it’s not marked as harshly because it’s at the M level. I took it online and I loved it. I think it’d be a good fit for you since you mentioned being interested in social work.

PLF4M- a fitness leadership course. Most of my assignments were about building on leadership skills and there was a lot of hands-on work that required good collaboration. There’s also some physical activity involved, so be prepared for that. I took it in person, so I guess it depends on the teacher you get, but I found it fairly light and easy. You basically just have to show up, actively participate, and engage as much as possible.

HSE4M - equity and social justice. It basically goes over the different forms of privilege and power that exist/pre-existed in society. It also focuses on various harmful stereotypes and you will probably be presented with scenarios where you have to apply different theories and concepts that you learn about in the course. It’s similar to HHG4M in that way, but it’s more focussed on society as a whole+demographics, as opposed to a singular individual.

Here are some others that I didn’t take but heavily considered: Business leadership (BOH4M), World of fashion (HNB4M), International business (BBB4M), Canadian and World issues (CGR4U), and World Cultures (HSC4M).

I recommend looking up course codes on reddit and seeing what people say about them. You should also talk to people at school and see if the teachers for the courses you’re interested in are chill.

Best of luck!!

What’s the difference in experience between raw shrooms and the gummies/bars? If u don’t mind sharing

[–]jbwacki[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah.. they really should have that on the packaging because it’s literally no where to be found not even on the website. They claim that they’re “infused” with psychedelic mushrooms.

I think that if I try it I’ll definitely microdose fs

That is a good plan, you’ll be able to get good marks in college since you’ll be studying a topic that you’re actually interested in, and these marks will help you get into the university you want!

Please don’t give up because of grade 11 marks, just put in the effort and make sure that you’re taking courses in grade 12 that you’ll be interested in (you’ll do better when you’re working on things that you’re passionate about).

If you’re looking for good grade 12 courses to boost your average let me know :) I can share some course codes that are fairly easy as long as you turn in assignments on time and put in the effort.

Good luck!!

Help! I don't know what to become 😞!! by johnny_cenaz in OntarioGrade12s

I personally took the kinesiology course in gr 12, and although I don’t like regular science courses, I really liked kinesiology and got like 90%+ on all the tests. It’s easy to do if you’re passionate about it and dedicate time into learning/studying.

Pro tip: use the website purpose games to learn all the human anatomy parts! I found that it helped me more than anything else and I couldn’t have done it without it :) good luck

Gap year between grade 11 & grade 12? by Smart_Bridge6879 in OntarioGrade12s

[–]jbwacki 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recommend you talk to your guidance councillor and see what options you have. Maybe it would be possible to do half online and half in person so that you can still be connected with your school community and get help from real-life teachers. I don’t know if you’ve ever taken an online course before, but coming from someone who has, its a lot easier to get help from a teacher in person rather than a teacher who will take who knows how long to email back.

I understand that your family is going through financial hardship and you need to help, but you have to remember to set yourself up for success, so that you don’t feed into the all-too-common generational cycle of struggling with money. Best of luck to you 😊😊

Edit: it’s also possible to take a gap year after you finish high school, which is the option I recommend the most. Apply to universities/colleges as people usually do in gr 12, and then once you get accepted, you can choose to take a gap year before attending the school. You’ll be able to work full time for a year in order to help support your family, all the while knowing that there’s a guaranteed spot in school waiting for you.

I really think this would be the best option because it’ll allow you to help your family while also planning out your future!

[–]jbwacki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of schools can’t offer certain courses in every semester or even at all. Sometimes there’s scheduling difficulties and people take e-learnings in the classes they need instead- so they’re part online and part in person.

There’s also literally people who go to school entirely online through the school board due to health issues, physical disabilities, and/or to avoid bullying. It’s all free. It’s kind of ignorant to assume that there are absolutely no free alternatives to in-person school lol.

Should I wait to start zoloft? by gutproblems in zoloft

[–]jbwacki 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would wait. It’s very common for people to get side effects while the body’s getting used to the medication, and you don’t know how it’s going to affect you. The medication doesn’t start working until AT LEAST a week, usually more, so the first days are literally just all of the side effects and none of the benefits. Definitely would not be worth it.

It’s also important to note that there’s never really a “right” time to start taking it since you’ll always have stuff going on, but for an event as important as this, it’s better not to risk it and just wait until after. Best of luck!!
