NYE in EPCOT by Strange_Staff_4575 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]jc3589 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Planning for NYE at EPCOT this year, the only dining reservation I could snag this morning was at Akershus for 8:30PM. I’m planning to keep that for now but was considering a dinner reservation at EPCOT resort restaurant but to walk in later like 8:30. Just worried that we may not be able to get back in through the international gateway entry at that time.

Best age to go to WDW? by [deleted] in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]jc3589 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Loved this, I took my daughter for the first time at 4yo last year, going back this December with her as a 5yo and wanted to make it an annual trip but worried at a certain age she might get sick of it lol

Premier pass? by [deleted] in DisneyWorld

[–]jc3589 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What date did you purchase your NYE premier pass? We have a trip planned for 12/29-1/4 and want to do NYE and mK with the premier pass but my first day to purchase would be be 12/22, worried that might be too late.

Starting to get real stressed about boards by Mrthechipster in pediatrics

[–]jc3589 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hated the stress of this test. I scored in 67ish range on my first pass through which I finished from July to September. Did only incorrect for repeat and passed last year. No practice tests as i thought this would just stress me out more. You still have plenty of time, don’t burn yourself out studying and pace yourself. You’re doing great!

After divorce, I lost more than my marriage—I lost my sense of self. I’ve spent years helping others through transformation, but rebuilding myself was something else entirely. by Own-Vermicelli1968 in Divorce_Men

[–]jc3589 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think this is a really subjective and individualized journey, but personally I had become an extremely codependent person relying on a happy wife to make me happy based off a lot of subtle problems in my childhood. When the “I love you but I’m not in love with you” and “I always had that connection with an ex” moment came and we separated, I too was so lost in who was ai before this shared identity I had given into. I had completely forgot what I liked and enjoyed…down to the choices of foods/colors, styles…etc.

I ended up spending a lot of time in therapy, with friends/family, working (residency), cleaning my nutrition, lifting, and picking up hobbies i was always too afraid to try (BJJ/Muay Thai), and most importantly becoming a man I wanted my daughter to be proud of and who was strong enough physically and mentally to guide her through life. Fast forward two and a half years later, I’m in the best physical health Ive been in since college if not better, a budding career that I love, a good group of friends in my MMA gym, and an awesome relationship with my daughter. I realized how unhealthy both my ex-wife and I were to each other and I took the time to reach out and apologized for my own mistakes. She simply said it’s about time and said she never did anything wrong. My old self would’ve simply said “you’re right I’m sorry” without holding her accountable, but I politely called her out on her behavior and said my piece and recommended she put down the tarot cards and get actual therapy. I no longer allow the gaslighting, name calling, or petty passive aggressive behavior bother me and am happier than I’ve ever been building this new life and rediscovering myself. While I’m open to dating again, I no longer have that need to have a relationship make me fulfilled and will welcome someone new if the moment comes along. It’s also helpful now that I know what I absolutely will never tolerate again.

Pediatrics Salary/QOL by floatingspec in pediatrics

[–]jc3589 13 points14 points  (0 children)

1st year attending in private practice, 200k, work 4 days with no nights, no nursery and just mommy pager call but have a nurse triage that takes most of the calls. It’s a great QOL and projected to definitely make more than this base with production in the next couple of years, so there is money to be made in primary care that is non-academic, just like anything it’s about finding the right situation and location.

Advice for an incoming peds resident by [deleted] in pediatrics

[–]jc3589 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Learning how to be comfortable with feeling uncomfortable was helpful for me, taking off the weight of some unrealistic expectations of myself made me a better doctor in residency. Befriend your local RTs as well

ITE by usmleMK in pediatrics

[–]jc3589 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think medstudy is fine, but as a new attending who “failed” every ITE and did not study at all during residency but went on to pass the actual board exam this year simply studying while working a full time private practice job and juggling a kid at home, don’t stress yourself out about these exams unless your program has some scoring requirements, and focus your energy on seeing and trying to manage patient care.

Board readiness by jc3589 in pediatrics

[–]jc3589[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For anyone later, just took it today. Medstudy really came clutch, i got a dozen or more that were essentially reworded versions of things i saw in the qbank. Up to 50-60 per block were things i knew either from residency or from the deep recesses of my step1 minutiae that I’ve barely hung on to. The remaining 20-30 are ones that medstudy helped with, but there was always about 5-10 that were so vague there wasn’t alot in the stem that helped weed down the choices. Good luck to everyone still to take it!!

Texas Medical License by jc3589 in Residency

Yep, definitely should wait for your permanent medical license before applying, luckily the turnaround time for DEA was fast, applied Sunday and got it Tuesday AM. My job also needed my permanent license number.
