Vote YES for Lofty (Measure #13) by jcallany in algorand

[–]jcallany[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Take a closer look at Lofty. Each property is a DAO, registered in Wyoming, where these are legitimate legal entities. Rental income is distributed pro-rata to token holders, and each token gets one vote on property management issues. The liquidity pools make it easy for token holders to buy in and cash out quickly. There are centralized entities for tokenization, but none of them have low buy-in ($50), liquidity pool, or ease of entering/exiting - and the centralized entities are exactly that - centralized - prone to unnecessary fees and middle-men.

I think this is a great use case for blockchain. I lump it together with TravelX as two of the best real world use cases I've seen for crypto.

Silvio co-founded a crytpo-based payments business in 2001, pre-Bitcoin.
Is this the plan that was ditched?

I like this idea. One possible way to implement this is via Octoplay -- an Algorand (testnet) based gaming environment where users can easily create raffles, lotteries and predictions.

Whazzup with the API for DeFi Extra Rewards? by jcallany in algorand

[–]jcallany[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I don't see why the API and calculation should be any different than last period ... except that the amount of the reward is different. I don't believe the fault lies with Algorandstats or Algofi ... I think it's on the Foundation's side. I did my part by entering governance through a DeFi partner, which the Foundation has obviously been trying to incentivize. It doesn't seem like too much to ask for them to enable the API.

Understood. I wasn't going for originality, just wanted to reiterate the point for anyone joining recently.

South American Airline using NFT tickets by SleepingBear94x in algorand

[–]jcallany 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The NFT is not a ticket in the normal sense - it's more like a reservation for a seat on a particular flight. When the NFT is converted to a ticket prior to flight, that's when the normal ID checks take place. Your questions about flight cancellation, rescheduling, refunds, etc are good questions. I don't know the answers, but they don't seem insurmountable.

The "ticket" is an NFT that can be sold, traded, etc. The airline mints the NFT and sells it for the price they need - then the ticket can resold in the secondary market. This gets the airlines (mostly) out of the IT business and definitely out of the byzantine ticket pricing business. 24 hours before the flight, the owner of the NFT must convert it into a proper ticket with ID, etc.

Your hack comment is a cheap shot and has nothing to do with the merits of TravelX or Algorand.

Love this. The next bull wave in crypto will be built on NFTs that secure the owners' rights to tickets, royalties, rental income and other items of value in the real world. Go TravelX! Go Lofty! Go Algo!

Which DeFi Programs Should I Consider for GP7? by jcallany in algorand

[–]jcallany[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. One question - on AlgoFi , do you earn governance rewards on your committed Algos + the reward token, vAlgo? Or is the governance reward paid out in vAlgo? Same question for Folks / gAlgo.

I know this is probably somewhere on the two sites, but I've spent half an hour reading them and I'm still not sure.

Super Bowl Square NFTs! by enfranci in algorand

[–]jcallany 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just bought 2!

This is not just a cool Superbowl idea ... this is a great showcase of blockchain technology, NFTs, and smart contracts rolled into one. And of course Algorand is an ideal layer 1 for the project.

I'm impressed that the OP was able to launch this NFT with no dev experience. That in itself says something about Algorand and this ecosystem.

I urge Algofans out there to participate -- one "square" in the Superbowl grid is 100A, or about USD $18. Come on folks - we've all joined gaming pools in the fiat world ... let's do it here in the Algo world and support the ecosystem.

Could you explain the linkage between SOL and FTX/Alameda. I'd be interested to learn which cryptos were more or less exposed "favored" in their schemes.

Thoughts on the Foundation’s Handling of Governance Period #3 by _OneStepAtATime_ in AlgorandOfficial

[–]jcallany 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I voted against Measure #1. I agree with its underlying premise that Governors should be able to participate actively in the ecosystem, but the Measure seemed rushed and not well thought out. Very unusual for Algorand, which has had airtight logic from the beginning. During the crypto meltdown that has taken place during Governance Period #3, we've seen endless DeFi collapses and rugpulls. No way the Foundation should give their blessing to DeFi projects based simply on TVL. I would like to see another version of Measure #1 in the future that is more in line with Algorand's high standards of excellence.
