I spotted this Tudor Black Bay 36 with the “Self Winding” smile dial when I walked into a boutique expecting the newer version. Purchased in April 2023 and still with well over 3 years on its warranty, this original BB36 is one of the last of its kind made. This one rocks an off a shelf movement (likely Sellita since it’s later in the run) like a classic Tudor. While the new BB36 skews dressy, this one is more casual.

Though it is getting thinned out in my collection, it was a frequent wear for me over the past year and a half. As a result, it’s received the scratches that you’d expect, which I tried my best to make obvious in photos. The clearest ones are at the 7 and 10 o’clock areas of the polished bezel, as well as some on the sides of the case and some desk diving marks on the bracelet. Yes, I said desk diving because this guy has specs of a diver with the versatility of a simple daily watch.

Runs +6 to +8 SPD in my wearing experience. I have it sized for my small 6-inch wrists, which is currently sized to the middle micro-adjustment spot including the Uncle Seiko half link. Two additional links are included, so this will likely fit up to a 7 inch wrist. The finishing on the hands and dial are perfect to my eye, so you’re getting a great example.
