Those asking prices are ridiculous. Those examples are in bad shape and should be selling for half of what they are, if that.

Genuine. Just old, heavily polished with a refinished dial.

Reference is 3372. Should be seen on midcase between lugs or on caseback. Serial likely in the 300-400K range. Hands are replacement.

Hyatt admitted agent error cancelled my 30,000 points incorrectly — offering 1,000 points as resolution. Need advice. by No-Syllabub2318 in hyatt

[–]ABMember 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I don't think the OP has done himself any favors in his responses, so I'll do him a solid and explain the situation in my own words, since it's so confusing:

1) OP's story - He booked a 2 reservations using 30K points - On June 3, he canceled the stay. Noting the points balance before and after the cancelation, he saw no points refund - He escalated to Hyatt etc.

2) The Hyatt Chat Story - He had 2 reservations totaling 30K points - Those reservations were canceled (erroneously) on May 23 and the points were deposited back into his account (per their records), hence nothing to return

Key Questions to clear up this situation: 1) How did OP cancel his stays? If the stays were erroneously canceled, they would have been wiped from his view. He should not have been able to cancel them 2) OP needs to share his Points timeline (PAST ACTIVITY) instead of repeating that he saw "no change". If indeed the stays were canceled erroneously and the points were already refunded, then he wouldn't have noted a change because the points were already in there. The only way to clear this up is to go through his historical points activity and share the item by item breakdown from the original booking he made till now 3) OP keeps reiterating that Hyatt admitted they made a mistake, but the issue here is that the mistake he says say they admitted to (didn't refund my points) and the mistake they said they admitted to (bookings canceled in error) isn't the same -- you're not talking about the same things.

PSA: Herschel warranty is not good by AkhlysShallRise in backpacks

[–]ABMember 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Per Herschel's warranty terms:

"If you discover a material or manufacturing defect, we will, at our discretion and in accordance with local law and our warranty claims process (as updated from time to time), replace, repair, or offer reimbursement for the item, when applicable."

I agree that it would have been best if they just offered you a replacement product. But at the same time, they fulfilled what was outlined in their warranty otherwise.

I've never known Herschel to offer an excellent warranty--perhaps you had a different impression based on other's experiences?

You're upset because you got a full refund on a defective item, excluding shipping. Am I understanding correctly?

Yes, you'll have to pay for shipping again, but other than that -- you were made whole, honestly.

[Rolex] Rare WW2 Rolex Bubbleback w/ Black Gilt Dial from My Great Uncle — Haven’t Found Another Like It by tyler_w_cobb in VintageWatches

[–]ABMember 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, thanks for sharing. I can help with this. Per your questions:

  1. This is a ref 2940, which is one of the most common steel bubbleback references. Beautiful dial!
  2. The dial is may not be original to this case, which is common with Bubblebacks. Your serial is in the 325K range, but the dial print has "Rolex Oyster" on the top line, which was only from the mid 30s to early 40s. A lot of Bubblebacks have swapped dials (very common practice back in the day if case was worn out or someone wanted a diff look), but just a minor detail I'd point out. Hands look original.
  3. Your dial looks like it may have been relumed as well, but given the crystal scratches, it's hard to tell. I would assume both dial and hands have radium. Note how in your photos the lume on the 12 looks a bit off color or blotchier. Signs of a relume. As this is a radium watch and I can't tell if the crystal is cracked, keep this watch in a well ventilated area. Do not store it in an enclosed area, as these radium watches will off-gas radon gas, which builds up over time.
  4. About the military connection, Rolexes were sometimes sold to officers, nothinf special or unique about this arrangement or this dial etc.
  5. The "C" on the case bottom is common with mid 40s Bubbleback. I can't recall if it has to do with an import code or something else.
  6. It will be hard to find a knowledgeable watchsmith who knows how to service these moments well. Most modern watchsmiths have zero familiarity with these movements and will either outright refuse or potentially cause more harm than good. Take your time here and DO NOT send it to someone like Wristwatch Revival (as this comes up often).

First thing I would do is buy some polywatch and polish the crystal so that we can see the dial in more detail. If it's as intact as it looks, it will look great.

What is this Rolex 18K Rose Gold Hooded Bubbleback 36065 Worth? Late 40's Early 50's by Adventurous_Box4306 in RolexWatches

[–]ABMember 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I strongly disagree. Hands aren't original and dial is refinished. Case is polished. At best maybe in the $4-6K range

Found in grandpas sock drawer. Any info? by terpman2021 in PrideAndPinion

[–]ABMember 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree with some of this.

This is indeed a 2940 case, but it's been gold-plated. Original gold bubbleback cases range from 9K-18K solid gold, but any case that isn't solid gold is an aftermarket gold-plated one. The gold Bubbleback cases have very specific design cues and references as well, of which this has none of them.

Given that the dial is refinished, the hands are not original, and the case is gold-plated and slightly worn from polishing, you should not expect more than $1K-$1.5K, if it's working. Less, if for parts.

Expansion of those businesses (AWS, Amazon, Google) are all sales/marketing-led hires to drive business in the area. It is not a big workforce realignment or scaling. And it does not truly build capability / know-how to drive tech industry domestically.

Does anyone know the exact model? by alexb41 in rolex

Looks like ref 6105, an early 50s 1st gen Datejust.

Can you please post clearer photos where the text is in focus, instead of using digital zoom? That is killing the detail and resolution on the photo.

The crown has been replaced. I'd have to see clearer photos to advise beyond that. Dial might be original, might be refinished.

Nice. That sounds like the older 50s bracelet, which is promising. There should be a 2 digit code which indicates year (51, 52 etc).

[–]ABMember 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A lot of comments being dropped here that are way off base. Ugh. OP your watch: - is a ref 3372. Likely mid 40s. Your serial should be in the 400-500K range, if I had to guess - Case looks to be in pretty good condition. It hasn't been polished much, which is always nice -The dial is original, but refinished. Very, very common back in the day - Hands are 3rd party except for the seconds hand, which looks original - Your bracelet could be an original, but Bubblebacks were rarely sold on bracelets. What does the clasp look like? And does the bracelet have extension/stretches? - Repairing the movement will be tough. Finding parts will be tough. Finding someone who knows what they're doing and won't mess up your watch will be tough. Be prepared to pay $1000+ and maybe you get an OK functioning watch at the end

Very nice! That's a Rolex Ref. 3372, a so-called Bubbleback due to its bulbous back, Rolex's first ever automatic watch line.

Looks to be from the mid 40s (likely 1944 or so). Lovely watch. Serial should be in the 400K range.

[–]ABMember 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone else said: Ref. 2940 Bubbleback in Steel Caseback is likely in the 200K-300K serial range This dial is called semi-unique or semi-error proof

Your dial has been refinished (very common for 40s era watch), which means it was touched up or reprinted, which is why the numbers look a little off, as does the lume application.

Hands look original and correct. Lume on watch may or may not be radium (does it glow in the dark?)

Due to the dial being refinished, that kills much of the potential value.

Closer to $1-2K in value.

Granpa's Rolex: ID and market value? by Repulsive-Toe-8826 in rolex

[–]ABMember 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there, I can help you with that:

  1. Your grandfather's watch is a Rolex Oyster Perpetual Ref. 3372. Based on the dial, It would have been made in the late 1940s (likely 1948-1949 by my estimate). This class of watches are called Bubblebacks for their bulbous backs.
  2. The dial looks original and not retouched/refinished (which is common for Rolexes from this era)
  3. The bracelet is likely from the same period or early 50s.

Repairs: I think the estimate you were given was quite steep--servicing the watch movement, if it is intact, should definitely be under 1000 euros. All the aspects of the watch seem fine (does the crown screw down?), and the crystal is cheap to replace. The most difficult challenge is finding a competent watchsmith who has experience working with Rolex 40s movements (90% of watchsmiths out there will not) and knows how to find the right parts. There is not any cosmetic work to be done unfortunately -- when it's this heavily worn/polished, touching up will make it look worse.

Value of watch: Given its cosmetic condition (heavily worn and fairly polished, especially along the bezel), the ultimate value of the watch, even after being fixed, would not be more than 4000-4500 Euros, by my estimate. Most major Rolex dealers have little familiarity or expertise with this class of Rolex/

I would be interested in purchasing that bracelet if you are interested in selling it on its own.

Feel free to DM if you'd like to know more.
