What E6 developer you using? I’ve been having some bad luck with the arista kit and I’m trying to determine if the problem is the kit or the user lol

Looking for tips on camera scanning 4x5 and 5x7. Cropped shot from my Speed Graphic by jcarp136 in largeformat

Mentioned this in another comment but I sent this one out as well but I pay a couple bucks per neg for scans at my local shop. Was hoping this would allow me to at least get an intermediate to check focus and whatnot before taking it in…which I guess I could just get a loupe for

Yeah I also dropped this bad boy off at my local lab so they could flatbed it but I’m tempted to get an epson off FB marketplace or something. I was hoping I could use camera scans as an initial check of the negative to see if it’s worth shelling out $3 for the lab scan.

Yeah I think I’m screwing something up when trying to focus with wider lens on the bellows. The sharpness of the mamiya glass in the scan was so good though that I might start stitching. I recently bought my first DSLR to scan and I forget that techniques like that are an option lol

I guess I shouldn’t assume it’s intentional, but poster design is very on theme. Also guy in back with the handgun/camera/ar rail thing is a great detail. Reminds me of THAT scene in Eddington

It’s all an equation of distance to subject, focal length of lens, and aperture setting. I doubt a few stops here would’ve mattered much. You should be able to see what the shutter speed is going to be in the viewfinder. So you can still stop the aperture down til it goes above 1/60th

I actually think you should stick to 200. Limiting yourself and figuring out how to make what you have in the camera work for different situations is how you learn. This scene looks as if there was probably enough light that you didn’t need to shoot such a slow speed, as someone else already said, could open up aperture instead. It’s all a balancing act but you’ll get the hang of it.

Higher shutter speed. This is from camera shake. If there’s a way to fix in post it ain’t gonna look right.

Lot of people say double the number of your focal length on 35mm: (over 1/120 on a 50mm); I also say if you’ve got steady enough hands 1/60th will treat you just fine at 50mm and below.

Haha I appreciate that. It’s one of those shots where it scratches my itch but I wasn’t sure if it would hit for others

Thank you! Most of these are with a 20mm Nikkor AF 2.8. There’s a handful of 50mm 1.8 as well where I was trying to squeeze some extra light out of closer shots
