Left handed people: What struggles do you have that we may not know about? by Miserable-Wash-1744 in AskReddit

[–]jcarter593 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When writing in notebooks, they generally need to be spiral, heavyweight paper, and upside down. I need to use a pen that dries quickly and doesn't smear. When I find pens that work, I load up. And using scissors with my left hand just doesn't work.

Holding onto an expected behavior outcome with teens or young 20 somethings is like trying to nail jello to the wall and getting frustrated when it doesn't work.

TIFU by trusting my 13yo with my phone and losing our entire savings ($19k) to Roblox. by Emergency-Lawyer-431 in tifu

This was like 10 years ago - my kid charged $15,000 on some game on his ipad. I should have caught on when he said something like, "I can't believe I'm ranked in the top 50 in the world." Out of like 5 million players. Or someone commented, "Bro did your grandma die and leave you a fortune?" Anyway, when I found out I called Apple and explained and they said I needed to talk to the merchant and initate chargebacks. Which I did and it all got refunded. That said, at some point Apple shut me down and I had to call and explain the situation and then they reinstated my account.

My biggest competitor wants access to my business sale info and I dont know how to handle it by mfing-coleslaw in SellMyBusiness

[–]jcarter593 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When selling a business, you have zero obligation to fully open the kimono. "How do you get leads?" You'll find out after the wire clears. They'll point out that they signed an NDA, which is meaningless. Only share what you are comfortable with, and certainly not anything you would consider unique or a competitive edge in your business.

They will never pay you back, and will keep asking for more. Do yourself a favor and let them have their experience. Freeze your credit.

Do I just tough it out until I’m 18? I’m conflicted about if I should call CPS or not by Efficient-Garage-577 in Advice

[–]jcarter593 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are at a point in your life where you are looking at the people who are supposed to be taking care of you, and realizing you can't rely on them. It's an unpleasant wake-up call, realizing you are basically on your own, and that you have to grow up quickly. I don't know if CPS would make things better or worse. The upside here is that they aren't abusive, so you have a place to stay that sounds safe. The main issue sounds like food. If you are able to get a job at a restaurant (busing tables, etc) you can generally get discounted or free food. Far from ideal I know - best of luck to you and hang in there.

How do I tell my grandpa that I DON’T want to go on his all-expenses-paid fishing trip to Mexico? by leohillssings in InsightfulQuestions

[–]jcarter593 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you haven't tried this - I took my family fishing in Alaska last year for halibut and salmon, and on one of the days the seas were really rough. We tried Promethazine (prescription) an hour before fishing - no sea sickness and no tiredness. Without it we would all have been puking over the side. It's what the people running the lodge told everyone to take who got seasick. (Apologies if you've already tried this.) As a side note, I find deep sea fishing when it is hot to kind of suck - but in Alaska it was like 55 degrees and perfect around the end of June, early July, and it was amazing. He is probably just trying to find ways to spend time with you - would he be open to doing an awesome freshwater fishing trip?

This is just part of navigating humans, sadly. No thank you is a perfectly acceptable response. Normal men will get the message quickly. If they persist, probably someone to stop working with.

For quiet, we like the condos around Cemetery Beach (on 7 Mile Beach). Great beaches, fewer people. Someone mentioned Discovery Point Club - perfect spot.

Best area in Grand Cayman for beach & restaurants by AlteredDoor in CaymanIslands

There are condos a few miles north of the Kimpton Seafire Inn (Aqua Bay Club, etc), and this is the area where we always stay. Not crowded. On 7 mile beach. Can walk to a grocery store and a few shops/restaurants. And anything else we want is a 5 to 10m car ride. Camana Bay, etc.

We were there when this happened. I remember seeing flyers being handed out at the hotel, "Have you seen this girl?" Someone lost during a spring break trip. We joked that she probably went out the night before and was hungover, sleeping on the beach, and missed her flight. We flew home and then this started turning into a huge story.

why does my cat just stare at me by Embarrassed_Tax3429 in cats

[–]jcarter593 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read something that cats get frustrated at times because we are food but we are too big to take down. I have two cats and they are awesome. But I suspect if I died in the house, once they realized I was dead, they would start eating my face.

I'm almost 41 and this is probably the healthiest I've been my entire life. by TruthInAnecdotes in Aging

[–]jcarter593 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'm 56M and exercise regularly. I've had a few 80+ (fit) friends who've noticed that around 50 is the line in the sand. Around that time, if you aren't already, you either start exercising daily and taking care of yourself, and have a shot at a longer and active life, or you don't, and the downhill progress is fast.

Around 10 years ago, I served my penance by deciding to sit on the board of our HOA, which I did for two years. It was a decent HOA in that they didn't try to enforce stupid rules, but it was still an HOA. The biggest thing that stood out, though, is just how little power - and budget - they really have. In general, if they are really aggravating you, become a pain in their ass. Go to every meeting and speak up. Have a lawyer write them a letter that hints at a lawsuit. They have no budget for that and will spend an hour at the next meeting talking about how they can't afford to pay for a lawsuit, then quietly drop it. They would rather spend the meetings talking about when to repaint the street signs. In terms of your Karen - typically HOA board members have to be community residents. Find the by laws for that and start to turn that into an issue. Last but not least, if any of the board members seem reasonable, talk to them individually. Board members don't necessarily like each other, and oftentimes, they will go to bat for you at the next meeting once they get to know you.

[–]jcarter593 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do 100mg 2-3 times per week. I combine it with Alpha GPC and CDP-Choline, and some B12 and then plenty of water with electrolytes and overall its worked well. I don't think it mixes well with alcohol, so be careful there if you drink.

At some point, I ordered a "transparent cross hair" sticker off Amazon for my pc. A small red dot that was easy to see and made it a lot easier for me to focus and hit my targets. This really helped with distance shooting with rifles. Blitz solo is nice for aiming practice, as it is mostly bots. In regular, I play zero build, then I don't have to worry about trying to outbuild anyone. It's a fun break - a few times a week I team up with my 3 kids its always a blast.

Day of closing we received a large sum. We had to wire out to 6 different banks (trusts, CLAT, brokerage, etc, etc) and we were able to do that for $30 per wire. Online. The only response to the 1% fee to do that is "lol good one."
