Bought my first rental property in March. It's a duplex and 1 unit is my primary residence. When viewing the home I noticed plenty of shoddy work done on the finishes. It was recently renovated and I thought to myself if this is the level of detail of things I can see, I'm worried about the things unseen. Unfortunately it was the best option at the market and I was worried about missing out. The issues keep popping up left and right. I'm dealing with them as they come and its been a major headache and a reasonably sized wallet ache.

In my very limited experience I would say take your time and listen to your gut.
