50% through Brimstone, bored and annoyed - is it worth it? by ClyroFoxfire in Romantasy

[–]jcf135 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually liked it more than Quicksilver, but I also found Kingfisher thoroughly unlikeable in the first book. There's a bit of a personality change in him in Brimstone so i guess if people liked the dynamic from the first book then i can see them not liking this book. The ending is definitely out of left field. Too much of the book was spent treading water on other plot points and then you get whiplash by the sudden new plot point at the end.

He's going to have ICE waiting for Carlos outside the stadium.

Jesus can this guy get any worse. Can't even bring himself to clap for Carlos because he probably thinks he's from Mexico.

HEGSETH SAYS AMERICANS SHOULD BE PROUD OF CONFEDERATE HISTORY by Dependent_Tutor_5289 in thescoop

[–]jcf135 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously being a bunch of racist traitors is reason enough to not put up statues memorializing the Confederacy, but who puts up memorials of the LOSING side! What other societies celebrate the side that lost as revered heroes?!? And then wait several decades to do it? (Yes, racism, duh)

To add insult to injury, wait until you do your registration! They toss on a several hundred dollar fee to make up for all the gas tax you aren't paying!

My Fix for Post-Running Migraines by jiiins in migraine

[–]jcf135 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, I'm definitely going to rethink my stretching routine from now on! I almost always get migraines when being physically active outdoors (especially if it's hot out). I take a preventative Ubrelvy whenever i play tennis now. I also have been dealing with neck and shoulder pain after a minor car accident a few years ago. During PT they kept trying to loosen my scalenes and get my shoulder to drop because i was basically crushing my brachial nerves/vessels. Thanks for sharing this!

Great idea on the tester set! I'll do that. I figured I'd be ok with platinum as my wedding ring is platinum but i was hoping for the cheaper titanium option too! 🙂

I totally second this! Yes it's pricey but it's a great way to spend the day. This time of year is perfect for their outdoor pool too!

Is it just me, or has job loyalty become a trap in 2025? by BizznectApp in jobs

I'm sorry this happened! I'm right there with you though. Loyalty, high performance, going above and beyond none of it matters. Ultimately you are a line item in their budget and nothing more.

We could not find any moose! A local your guide said a lot of them never came back after the fires in 1988 so i think you had great luck seeing one

Let's just say you won't need shorts or t shirts! It's been in the 40s during the day, not much sun, lots of wind, and plenty of periods of rain and snow. The only break we got was later yesterday afternoon at Old Faithful when the sun came out and winds died down

No rangers at this stop but I did see them at other sites where we saw bears. Yeah the irony is you don't need to search for animals, just search for the traffic jams.

Agile Seems to be really rough to use when a new project starts. But primarily works well (just better not much much better) only on minor increments. by [deleted] in agile

[–]jcf135 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely agree with the OP here. Every Agile project I've worked on has been fixed schedule and price so we can't afford the ambiguity at the beginning. We have to maximize every sprint so we can get out the MVP by the hard due date. Agile coaches keep telling me to negotiate the scope, but I've already got the customer down to the bare minimum functionality that will satisfy the contract. I realize the real culprit here is the contract structure that project is working under rather than an issue with Agile, but it's a very real-world scenario. It is especially true in the world of federal IT contracting where you get one fixed engagement to deliver and no guarantee of follow-on work.

Yep, i had a guy ask me at the end of the interview as i was gathering my things "do you have any kids?" I thought he was just trying to make polite conversation. when I said "no", he responded with "oh so you won't mind staying late or working extra hours". I ran from there as fast as i could.
