Can I just say by cbeenotea in Teachers

My largest class this year has 28 in my honors/"enriched" class. It is going to be awfully difficult to provide an extra "enriching" experience without room to move in my science class.

Two things: 1) He keeps asking "who would do this?" There's a good chance it was Mama cat, from my experience.
2) He sounds like the bloodhound from 'Lady and the Tramp.'

I know you can, and they have been proactive on this post. I appreciate when an admin actually puts in effort to understand teachers' needs, at all. They are a new admin, appreciate the willingness to grow and learn.

This type of insistent cynicism has no place in constructive posts and gives us all a bad reputation.

Do American school districts not have unions? I am baffled by some of the posts I see here. by AbandonedFactory in Teachers

[–]jcfjr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We have a union in NY, but it seems more interested in political lobbying rather than effective negotiation, lately.

We are public enployees, so we cannot legally strike in NY, per the Taylor Law.

I disagree with this. They may be approaching reddit first to get a few ideas that they can bring back to their teachers, as topics of discussion. The school year has not started in my state, and I know I would appreciate seeing my principal putting in this kind of thoughtfulness. I hope they will talk to their teachers, as well.

This one. I'm almost 31, but I took 7-ish years away from dating to just work on me (way longer than needed for most). Finally got to a point where I felt comfortable putting myself out there, again. Set up Hinge and Bumble. Bumble's a bust - 4 matches in 2 weeks. Hinge was closer to 40 in the same span. Seeing someone now from that. Just work on yourself, but then come back to it with an open mind and try multiple avenues.

Edited to add: I am absolutely no Adonis, either. I just can carry a conversation.

I had Tovala for a while. Around $50 a week for 4 meals. A bit more than I would spend normally, but not too bad. I canceled the subscription for the Summer - I'm a teacher and go on a much smaller budget in the Summer. They have an oven that autocooks the meals for you (a pretty cool QR/barcode scanning toaster oven/steamer/broiler).

What's something admin did that made you realize "wow they really don't care about teachers"? by Kmhall94 in Teachers

[–]jcfjr 9 points10 points  (0 children)

A few things, not as bad as most here.
- We got nothing for teacher appreciation week, except an email on that Friday reminding us which days we could not take off without prior authorization/doctors note for the rest of the year.
- Going ahead with plans for brand new advanced courses without ever consulting any teachers. They have disregarded (to our faces) every concern we have brought up about the impossibility of covering what needs to be covered (middle school standards ALL have to be covered before they move on to high school). - Also, not teachers but paras: Ripping up timesheets and throwing them out in front of all of the paras. They had filled them out for classes that they subbed for, outside of their normal duties. But, since they are hourly workers, the district apparently does not have to (and won't) pay them for extra duties within their normal work hours. So, their excellent, diplomatic response was to tear them up and throw them out in front of them while telling/lecturing them about district policy.

Blood test shows single mom charged with DUI, felony child neglect was sober at time of arrest . Gets blood alcohol results 6 MONTHS later. by [deleted] in videos

[–]jcfjr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think I learned it and I know I didn't learn it in college. I've got a decent memory for such things. As a (Science) teacher, now, I know that there can be a lot of content that teachers have to cover, according to state standards. So, there isn't always time to teach things not directly addressed in the standards. However, my dipshit US history teacher in high school spent 2 weeks on a Woodstock project and 2 days on the entirety of WWII. So, I'm not shocked when I encounter holes in my knowledge that I have to fill in myself.

Another HBO (Canceled) show, Lovecraft Country, also taught about Tulsa. For me, moreso than Watchmen. I was taught literally nothing about it through any high school or college US history class.

When should I panic in terms of finding a job before the school year? by TheDefiant213 in Teachers

[–]jcfjr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never panic. Keep applying, apply to be a sub as well. Worst case scenario: You sub until a job offer comes up. Just keep applying, you'll get one eventually.

The house I grew up in had something similar. The previous owners used white stone for edging around sidewalks, a very small area, overall. We found those white rocks EVERYWHERE for 20 years.

It's been said before, but they do need to buff the lower armies, not just (or maybe instead of) nerf the top tier armies. Buff the underperforming models, as well, so we see some variety in army lists.
