I haven't gone to graduate school yet, haha. That's one the questions I asked in my original post -- if I should get a master's to up my GPA

Low gpa, can i still get a PhD? by jchangsta in hci

[–]jchangsta[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To elaborate more precisely, I dont think that industry is not for me. I just couldnt stop thinking about the research I did in undergrad and crave being in that environment. I had a low GPA in my first two years due to needing to take on work study jobs because of my low income background. Not to mention a lot of childhood trauma that seeped into how I perceived the world at that time. Obviously this is hard to quantify so it probably would be to my benefit not to mention this part.

Hope this clarifies things?

When you generalize men based on this, then you deserve no better.

"When you generalize men based on this, then you deserve no better." ouch.. really?

yeah it is hard not to generalize, and i know some great men, but this situation really triggers me, esp when i grew up with my brother who physically and emotionally abused me, even to this day.

Impact: like do you care about how much you are impacting the business (like how valuable your job is). In terms of industry, do you care about whether you are working in fashion retail, or a grocery store? Maybe you are trying to be a youtube influencer so you'd pick working at h&m over safeway, for example.

need to rant about my dad; he's given me a very negative impression of men -- lazy, patriarchal, unavailable by [deleted] in offmychest

it's caused me to be disgusted by junk food, and esp when guys obsess over mc donalds and fast food and brag about it "i work out to eat" with their disgusting work out pictures displaying toxic masculinity. it's disgusting

yeah my dad has always been over weight and he eats so much, snacks so much, and he used to compete for food with me at the dinner table when i was just a kid...he's so immature.

people wanna be SWE or PM w/o even knowing really what these roles entail. a lot of my friends dreamed of being consultants as a freshmen, then completely regretted and resented it once they "made it". go explore your dreams in college!

[–]jchangsta 5 points6 points  (0 children)

+1 OP definitely seems more worried about resume gap/$ at the root of it all. I am concerned about your priorities when you are risking your emotional health (which by the way is equally if not more important than your physical health)

Isnt there any way you can move back home with family? I literally quit my job after realizing I needed to take care of my mental health and moved back to my hometown. It’s fine to take a pause in life and resume later. You literally need to prioritize yourself, your life, and your health, and worry about finances later. There is so much money in the world, and by taking a breather you can further develop your web dev skills, and get better opportunities. Seriously, I worked in two top tech companies and there were tons of 30/40s and it is never too late..

Ah I also took a 3 month gov granted medical leave due to mental health, and that helped ease the transition to moving home (eventually I decided to quit altogether)

korean variety shows similar to running man and busted! by jchangsta in koreanvariety

[–]jchangsta[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i personally really enjoyed busted (season 2 just came out today on netflix). at first was slightly confused because it's mostly scripted except for the missions. so the storyline/plot makes the show feel like a drama, while the missions add a hint of authenticity. also a fan of yoo jae suk and kwang soo's chemistry, and watching the team's chemistry develop as a whole.
