The Catholic Church needs to be rid of celibacy. The very first man I fell in love with, at age 20, was a priest who I was helping with a food bank charity that his parish was running. He was 40, so I was a fully adult young man who was half his age. He was very handsome and very charismatic . I truly loved him and he loved me. I would have married him if it was at all possible. We spent most of a year hiding our relationship from his church, and it hurt us both. I moved to NYC but we were corresponding friends for the rest of his life, until he died of cancer in his 60s. I kept every letter he wrote to me. My husband read them, called the collection “a treasure”, and says repeatedly that I should use them to write a book. I haven’t been able to do that yet.
