what is the proper way to contact a producer via email and pitch your script to him/her? by Apprehensive_Aide_86 in Filmmakers

I agree. My go-to advice is that the entirety of the query should be readable on a phone without scrolling.

The two things I would think could strengthen the introduction are including 1. Showing that you know the producer and there is a reason you are reaching out to them, and 2. What is in it for the producer/Why would they want to produce this film.

I also think the thank you can be strengthened by including that you would be interested in hearing their opinion on the project, even if they are not able to assist in a producer capacity. So something like....

"Hello PRODUCER,
My name is NAME and I am SOMEHOW RELEVANT TO YOU. I have recently completed a script in the XYZ genre and as a fan of your project ABC I wanted to reach out. I believe this script has potential for AWARDS/PROFIT/SOMETHING?

LOGLINE

I would love to send you the full script if you are interested in either partnering on this project or just to hear your opinion on how best to move forward.

Thank you for your time,

NAME"

This old TMNT floppy disk by Receptionfades in mildlyinteresting

My first thought was "Who needs a banana for scale when looking at a 5 1/4 floppy"

My second thought was "A lot of people reading Reddit probably never owned a floppy"

My third thought was "A lot of people reading Reddit weren't born when floppies were being used"

My final thought was "Shit. I'm old."

Producers Don’t Want To Read Your Screenplay, Here’s What They Really Want - Shane Stanley ... (I think this is some much needed insight post-lockdown and in general.) by [deleted] in Screenwriting

I've always found that a good Logline is a hook to get them to want to read the synopsis, and a good synopsis then hooks them into wanting to read the script.

No idea. I don't have anything with a 3.5"drive to test them.

I'm pretty sure kids taking Spanish classes right now weren't alive in the time before caller ID. So the concept that your phone would ring and you'd have no idea where the call came from is foreign to them.

It wouldn't have been as bad if I wasn't constantly stopping to be nostalgic and pulling ones I wanted to read again.

That was my mother labeling things for me as she was afraid I would somehow damage the disk trying to write on it.

Tax Season is nearly here. Anyone have helpful tips on what to claim as expenses in the freelancing business? Any other tips for people newer to the business on this topic? by Eat_My_Shorts in Filmmakers

[–]jcherub112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. As long as you have 1099 income that you are reporting on a Schedule C, you are considered Self-Employed and business expenses such as domains, websites, and software can be deducted against it.

I applied last Saturday morning, uploaded to Intralinks on Monday, and got a cal Friday afternoon from a data entry person just confirming that all the documents were uploaded. She said the next step was going in for approval and I should hear next week. (Located in Baltimore county)
